Abstract
BACKGROUND Although the elderly frequently engages in brisk walking as a form of exercise, little has been reported in the literature about the effect of brisk walking on health-related physical fitness, balance, and overall life satisfaction. OBJECTIVES The purpose of this systematic review is to determine the effect of brisk walking on the elderly's health-related physical fitness, balance, and life satisfaction. DESIGN We conducted a comprehensive search from the PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and SPORTDiscus databases from January to September 2021. We selected studies through PICOS and conducted a systematic literature review according to the PRISMA guidelines. RESULTS Thirteen studies met all criteria; 11 were classed as low risk of bias, while two were classified as high risk of bias. Generally, brisk walking has been shown to improve cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength, and body composition. Limited evidence was presented on flexibility, muscular endurance and development and life satisfaction, and there was conflicting evidence on balance. Moreover, evidence of restriction proves that high-intensity (80-85%) brisk walking is more effective than moderate-intensity (60-75%) brisk walking on the aerobic capacity of the elderly. Furthermore, there was less research conducted on males. CONCLUSION Brisk walking has been shown to improve cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength, and body composition. Other outcomes (balance, flexibility, muscular endurance, and life satisfaction) and the impact of the intensity of brisk walking on the elderly should be confirmed. Therefore, there remains insufficient research on brisk walking, while single brisk walking cannot meet requirements of elderly in terms of their health-related physical fitness, balance, and life satisfaction. Future research should aim to examine the effectiveness of combining several types of exercises to promote general health in the elderly, as the World Health Organization recommends. Unintelligible FITT (frequency, intensity, time, type) principles of brisk walking training should be trenched for the results of scientific and effective physical exercise.

Abstract
PURPOSE Neck pain is a musculoskeletal problem increasing with age. The disorders that occurs in the neck region may also affect the upper extremity due to its close anatomical relationships. The aim of this study was to determine whether neck pain affects shoulder position sense and upper extremity function in the older adults. METHODS This cross-sectional study was carried out in nursing homes. The older adults over 65 years of age with chronic neck pain for the last 6 months were included. Pain intensity was evaluated with a Visual Analog Scale. Acumar dual digital inclinometer was used for the evaluation of shoulder position sense. 9-Hole Peg Test was used for the measure of upper extremity function. RESULTS It was found dominant side shoulder position sense and the function of both upper extremities were different between the three groups (p < 0.05). Pain was correlated with dominant and non-dominant 60ᵒ flexion shoulder position sense and 60ᵒ abduction shoulder position sense (p < 0.05). Additionally, a relationship was found only between pain and non-dominant side upper extremity function (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION In conclusion, we found that in older adults with neck pain, position sense and function decreased in upper extremities. The findings from this study support that detailed evaluation of anatomically related regions as well as the cervical region where pain is felt is important in creating a more effective rehabilitation program.

Abstract
The present study aimed to confirm latent classes in health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in older adults and investigate the characteristics of participants in each class. It aimed to provide basic data to develop interventions for each quality-of-life class by analysing the predictors of each class. Secondary data from a community health survey in G province since 2019 found a total of 41,872 participants. Of them, 9027 were 65 years or older and residing in G Province in 2019, participated in this study. Mplus 8.5 was used to conduct a latent class analysis of five domains of HRQOL. Four latent classes in the HRQOL of older adults, namely, stable type, physical disability type, emotional disability type, and crisis type were found. Certain variables predicted these classes. Based on the findings of the present study, training on functional mobility and balance to prevent falls in older populations and individualised programmes to promote mental health in them should be provided. Moreover, policies should increase medical accessibility and provide social support for older people with low-incomes. Additionally, since physical, psychological, and social health in older adults are inter-connected, a comprehensive care plan is needed to improve their HRQOL.

Abstract
PURPOSE To explore the relationship between shame, ageing, physical disease, and quality of life in Greek older people. DESIGN AND METHODS A cross-sectional design using a stratified random cluster sample of older adults from Open Care Centers for the Elderly in the region of Epirus, Greece. Data were collected using (a) the Short Form-36 Health Survey, (b) the Other As Shamer Scale, and (c) the Experience of Shame Scale. Data were analyzed using SPSS software. RESULTS Internal shame was positively correlated with external shame (Pearson's r(177) =, p < .01), with negative effect on the mental component in both men and women (effect on women bW = -0.173, pW = .004, effect on men bM = -0.138, pM = .047), b = path analysis beta coefficient and with a significant negative effect on the physical health component for men. External shame was found to have a significant negative effect on women's mental health (b = -0.266, p = .002) and a nonsignificant effect on the physical health component. Age was negatively related with the physical health component in both groups (bW = -0.392, pW = .002 and bM = -0.384, pM = .003), while the presence of a bodily disease corresponded with a lower physical health component score for men (b = -4.267, p = .033). CONCLUSION Shame in older individuals is present in both sexes. Older males suffering from a physical disease displayed a greater decline of the health-related quality of life on physical health components, leading to greater internal shame. Older females suffering from a physical disease displayed a greater decline of health-related quality of life on mental health components, leading to greater external shame. CLINICAL RELEVANCE These results indicate the need for developing assessment and care plans for older individuals that incorporate in them the concept of shame as a factor in dealing with and adapting to physical disease.

Abstract
Background: In older adults, depression symptoms may be masked by physical complaints and be even attributed to the natural aging process, which may be resulted in improper diagnosis. Native-language scales can be highly effective in the detection of depressive disorders. In this study we attempted to assess the reliability and validity of the Azeri Turkish version of the geriatric depression scale (GDS). Methods: In this psychometric study, the GDS and the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM IV(SCID) questionnaires were administered to a sample of 387 older adults (60 years and older)from the member households of Tabriz health centers. The English version of GDS was translated into Azeri Turkish. Translation-back translation process was conducted. The receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve, as well as sensitivity and specificity, were used to determine the validity of the questionnaire, and the test-retest method was used to calculate reliability. Results: The mean age of participants was 69.30. The area under the ROC curve for the scores higher than five was 0.832 and for the scores equal to ten and above was 0.871. The sensitivity and specificity for the scores higher than five were 90.9% and 73.4%, respectively. The reliability of this scale was confirmed based on intraclass coefficient (ICC) = 0.79. Conclusion : The Azeri Turkish version of GDS was found with appropriate levels of validity and reliability.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In Palestine, persons older than 60 years of age comprise 4.6% of the population in this decade and will remain relatively stable until the year 2020, when it is expected to begin to rise. The quality of life (QoL), which reflects well-being and health status, is under-reported in this vulnerable group in the Gaza Strip. OBJECTIVE Determine QoL and associated factors in persons aged older than 60 years. DESIGN A community-based cross-sectional study. SETTING Five Gaza Strip governorates. SUBJECTS AND METHODS Subjects were selected by convenience sampling. We used the validated Arabic WHOQOL-BREF to assess QoL and used descriptive, univariate and multivariate methods to analyze the data. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES QoL, overall satisfaction with health and factors associated with good QoL. SAMPLE SIZE 235 community-dwelling elderly. RESULTS The response rate was 85.5% (201/235). Mean age (SD) was 69 (7.95) years old and females accounted for 57.7% (116/201) of the sample. Almost half (44.2%, 90/201) of the elderly scored in the category of good QoL. The mean (SD) for overall QoL and perceived satisfaction with health was 3.3 (1.1) and 3.4 (1.0), respectively, on a 5-point Likert scale. The social relationship domain had the highest QoL score (65.4 [15.3]), whereas physical and environmental domains received equally lower scores (60.5 [15.2] and 60.5 [12.5] respectively). Multivariate analysis showed that factors associated with good QoL were higher education (OR: 3.1, CI 95%: 1.03-9.4) and perceived high satisfaction with health (OR: 3.6, CI 95%: 1.8-7.3). CONCLUSION More years of education and higher satisfaction with health were associated with a better perception of QoL. Interventions should be focused more on physical and environmental aspects in the life of elderly persons. LIMITATIONS Cross-sectional design, use of convenience sample and some possibly important factors not studied. CONFLICT OF INTEREST None.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Pain is the most common complaint of elderly people. In Poland, no large studies on the prevalence of chronic pain in the elderly were conducted until recently. MATERIAL AND METHODS The study was a part of the PolSenior project, a cross-sectional multidisciplinary study on ageing of the Polish population, and included a randomly selected group of 716 people aged 55-59 years, and 4979 people over 65 years. The survey was conducted through a standardized questionnaire. An evaluation of pain occurrence, location, intensity and coexistence of pains in relation to gender, age and use of health care was performed. RESULTS Chronic pain affected 42.0% of respondents aged 65 years and over (48.6% of women and 35.8% of men) as compared to 35.2% of the pre-elderly. The most common pain locations were the lumbar region (51.6%) and knees (41.0%). The average number of pain sites was 3.1 ±2.3. Average intensity of pain was 6.2 points on the VAS scale in people over 65 years and 6.0 points in the pre-elderly (NS). Average pain intensity increased significantly from 5.7 points in patients reporting pain in one place to 7.2 points in those reporting six pain sites. Elderly respondents with pain compared to those without pain more frequently reported physician visits performed at least once a month (54.6% vs. 48.4%, p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Polish elderly most frequently complained of low back and lower limb pain. In respondents reporting many sites of pain, an increase in the intensity of pain was observed. Elderly patients with chronic pain often use medical care.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of vitamin D supplementation on pain, quality of life, and nerve conduction studies (NCSs) in women with chronic widespread pain (CWP) diagnosed with Vitamin D insufficiency. Thirty-three female participants with CWP and vitamin D insufficiency were included in this open-label trial. They were evaluated by routine NCSs in upper and lower limbs, pain scales, and the Nottingham Health Profile before and 8 weeks after starting vitamin D supplementation therapy. The P-value was adjusted to account for the number of comparisons performed in each assessment. After 8 weeks of treatment, participants reported significantly lower pain scores (P=0.000). The total Nottingham Health Profile score and subscores for pain, emotional reactions, and physical activity domains were significantly lower (0.000≤P≤0.008). However, no statistically significant changes in NCSs were detected, except trends toward increases in the amplitudes of left median and ulnar sensory nerve potentials and a decrease in the distal latency of the right median sensory potential (0.01≤P≤0.04). Vitamin D supplementation therapy decreased pain and increased quality of life without significantly affecting nerve conduction in patients with CWP.

Abstract
Introduction: In the stage of demographic transition, the
rate of elderly is increasing and their health condition is a matter of concern. Thus, the
objective of this study was to investigate the health related quality of life (QoL) and
the associated socio-demographic determinants among Iranian elderly people. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study with a
representative samples of 750 elderly people whom community dwelling in urban area of
Babol, in the north of Iran. In a household survey, the demographic data were collected
and the health related QoL was assessed with a validated standard short form questionnaire
(SF-36). The multiple linear regression analysis was performed to determine the
demographic characteristics in predicting QoL using SPSS ver 13. Results: The overall mean (SD) scores of QoL was 62.4(17.2)
for men and 51.2 (17.9) for women. The mean scores of QoL in all dimensions in men had
significantly higher than women. The adjusted regression coefficient of gender, age,
educational level, being couple were significant on overall scores of QoL. Aging is
inversely associated while male gender and education at high school or higher and being
couple are positively associated in prediction of overall scores of QoL. Conclusion: The findings indicate that the health related
QoL is rather poor in old people particular in women, elderly with low education level and
being single. Therefore, healthcare policy makers should consider an urgent health
interventional program among elderly people at present stage of demographic transition
with emphasis on high risk demographic profiles.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Depression is a prevalent and disabling condition in older persons (≥ 60 years) that increases the risk of mortality and negatively influences quality of life (QOL). The relationship between depression, or depressive symptoms, and QOL has been increasingly addressed by research in recent years, but a review that can contribute to a better understanding of this relationship in older persons is lacking. Against this background, we undertook a literature review to assess the relationship between depression and QOL in older persons. SUMMARY Extensive electronic database searches revealed 953 studies. Of these, 74 studies fulfilled our criteria for inclusion, of which 52 were cross-sectional studies and 22 were longitudinal studies. Thirty-five studies were conducted in a clinical setting, while 39 were community-based epidemiological studies. A clear definition of the QOL concept was described in 25 studies, and 24 different assessment instruments were employed to assess QOL. Depressed older persons had poorer global and generic health-related QOL than nondepressed individuals. An increase in depression severity was associated with a poorer global and generic health-related QOL. The associations appeared to be stable over time and independent of how QOL was assessed. KEY MESSAGES This review found a significant association between severity of depression and poorer QOL in older persons, and the association was found to be stable over time, regardless which assessment instruments for QOL were applied. The lack of a definition of the multidimensional and multilevel concept QOL was common, and the large variety of QOL instruments in various studies make a direct comparison between the studies difficult.

Abstract
PURPOSE In this study, we aimed to describe the sociodemographic characteristics of caregivers of patients in a geriatric unit and to clarify the relationship between caregiver burden and specific clinical variables in the patients and the characteristics of the caregivers. DESIGN Cross-sectional multicenter study. METHODS One hundred twenty-three patients and 123 caregiver dyads, with mean ages of 72.5 ± 7.7 years and 51 ± 14.7 years, respectively, were included. The functional, psychological, and cognitive statuses of the patients were determined, and the sociodemographic characteristics of the caregivers as well as the type and duration of caregiving were recorded. Caregivers completed the Caregiver Burden Inventory (CBI) to measure the perceived burden of care. Most patients were female and generally lived with their family. FINDINGS Most of the caregivers were family members (90%), female (73.2%), primary school graduates (52.8%), and first-degree relatives (73.1%). The average CBI score was 33, and the highest CBI subscores were for time, developmental, and physical burdens. Caregiver burden correlated with the patient's ambulatory, psychological, and cognitive status and with the caregiver's age, gender, income level, and duration of caregiving. CONCLUSIONS We have highlighted the relationship between caregiver and patient characteristics in a cohort of elderly Turkish patients with neurological and musculoskeletal disorders. In particular, we have highlighted the heavy caregiver burden in a developing country. CLINICAL RELEVANCE Our results may guide the nurses to understand the requirements of caregivers and to help them find suitable resources that would meet their needs to cope with their burden.

Abstract
High quality of life (QoL) may reduce the costs of medical care of chronically ill patients due to lower health care utilization. The purpose of this study was to establish the influence of the QoL of primary care patients with chronic respiratory diseases on the level of health care utilization and the predictors of hospitalization. The study group consisted of 594 adult patients with chronic respiratory diseases of the mean age 59.8±14.9 years. The highest QoL was observed in the social relationship domain and the lowest in the physical domain. Low QoL was associated with a low level of health care utilization among patients with chronic respiratory diseases. Most patients were hospitalized during the past 3 years. In a group of patients with chronic respiratory diseases, chances for hospitalization were: higher among patients with low QoL and health satisfaction, low QoL levels in the physical and social relationship domains, high QoL levels in the psychological domain, those with higher education, residents of rural areas, patients using frequent consultations over the phone, and those with at least an average index of services.

Abstract
The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of hypovitaminosis D on pain, quality of life (QoL) and nerve conduction studies (NCSs) in patients with chronic widespread pain (CWP). We randomly selected 83 female patients with CWP according to their vitamin D levels in this cross-sectional study. Patients were divided into two groups as sufficient vitamin D level (above 20 ng/ml) and deficient vitamin D level (below 20 ng/ml, hypovitaminosis D). Various pain scales and Nottingham Health Profile (NHP) were used. NCSs were also done. In patients with hypovitaminosis D, there were significantly higher pain scores for all scales (p value range 0.002-0.027). The subscale and total NHP scores were significantly higher in hypovitaminosis D group (p = 0.048-0.001) except social isolation subscale (p = 0.553). Vitamin D levels were in negative correlation with right and left median and/or ulnar motor nerve amplitudes, left tibial motor amplitude. This study confirm that hypovitaminosis D is related with higher pain intensity and lower QoL scores in patients with CWP when compared with control group. Additionally, we identified for the first time that there were negative correlations between vitamin D levels and some findings of NCSs.
