Abstract
BACKGROUND Heart rate variability (HRV) is a valuable indicator of autonomic nervous system integrity and can be a prognostic tool of COVID-19 induced myocardial affection. This study aimed to compare HRV indices between patients who developed myocardial injury and those without myocardial injury in COVID-19 patients who were admitted to intensive care unit (ICU). METHODS In this retrospective study, the data from 238 COVID-19 adult patients who were admitted to ICU from April 2020 to June 2021 were collected. The patients were assigned to myocardial injury and non-myocardial injury groups. The main collected data were R-R intervals, standard deviation of NN intervals (SDANN) and the root mean square of successive differences between normal heartbeats (RMSSD) that were measured daily during the first five days of ICU admission. RESULTS The R-R intervals, the SDANN and the RMSSD were significantly shorter in the myocardial injury group than the non-myocardial group at the first, t second, third, fourth and the fifth days of ICU admission. There were no significant differences between the myocardial injury and the non-myocardial injury groups with regard the number of patients who needed mechanical ventilation, ICU length of stay and the number of ICU deaths. CONCLUSIONS From the results of this retrospective study, we concluded that the indices of HRV were greatly affected in COVID-19 patients who developed myocardial injury.

Abstract
Human coronavirus-associated myocarditis is known, and a number of coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19)-related myocarditis cases have been reported. The pathophysiology of COVID-19-related myocarditis is thought to be a combination of direct viral injury and cardiac damage due to the host's immune response. COVID-19 myocarditis diagnosis should be guided by insights from previous coronavirus and other myocarditis experience. The clinical findings include changes in electrocardiogram and cardiac biomarkers, and impaired cardiac function. When cardiac magnetic resonance imaging is not feasible, cardiac computed tomographic angiography with delayed myocardial imaging may serve to exclude significant coronary artery disease and identify myocardial inflammatory patterns. Because many COVID-19 patients have cardiovascular comorbidities, myocardial infarction should be considered. If the diagnosis remains uncertain, an endomyocardial biopsy may help identify active cardiac infection through viral genome amplification and possibly refine the treatment risks of systemic immunosuppression. Arrhythmias are not uncommon in COVID-19 patients, but the pathophysiology is still speculative. Nevertheless, clinicians should be vigilant to provide prompt monitoring and treatment. The long-term impact of COVID-19 myocarditis, including the majority of mild cases, remains unknown.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The global coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic has highlighted the importance of understanding the cardiovascular implications of coronavirus infections, with more severe disease in those with cardiovascular co-morbidities, and resulting cardiac manifestations such as myocardial injury, arrhythmias, and heart failure. DESIGN A systematic review of the current knowledge on the effects of coronavirus infection on the cardiovascular system in humans was performed and results were summarized. METHODS Databases such as MEDLINE, EMBASE, CENTRAL, Scopus, Web of Science, ClinicalTrials.gov, Chinese Knowledge Resource Integrated Database and Chinese Clinical Trial Registry were searched on 20 March 2020. RESULTS In total, 135 studies were included, involving severe acute respiratory syndrome, Middle East respiratory syndrome, coronavirus disease 2019 and other coronaviruses. Most were case reports, case series and cohort studies of poor to fair quality. In post-mortem examinations of subjects who died from infection, around half had virus identified in heart tissues in severe acute respiratory syndrome, but none in Middle East respiratory syndrome and coronavirus disease 2019. Cardiac manifestations reported include tachycardia, bradycardia, arrhythmias, and myocardial injury, secondary to both systemic infection and treatment. Cardiac injury and arrhythmias are more prevalent in coronavirus disease 2019, and elevated cardiac markers are associated with intensive care unit admission and death. In severe acute respiratory syndrome, Middle East respiratory syndrome, and coronavirus disease 2019, comorbidities such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and heart disease are associated with intensive care unit admission, mechanical ventilation, and mortality. There were cases of misdiagnosis due to overlapping presentations of cardiovascular diseases and coronavirus infections, leading to hospital spread and delayed management of life-threatening conditions. CONCLUSION This review highlighted the ways in which coronaviruses affect cardiovascular function and interacts with pre-existing cardiovascular diseases.
