Multi-threshold image segmentation for melanoma based on Kapur’s entropy using enhanced ant colony optimization

Melanoma is a malignant tumor formed by the cancerous transformation of melanocytes, and its medical images contain much information. However, the percentage of the critical information in the image is small, and the noise is non-uniformly distributed. We propose a new multi-threshold image segmentation model based on the two-dimensional histogram approach to the above problem. We present an enhanced ant colony optimization for continuous domains (EACOR) in the proposed model based on the soft besiege and chase strategies. Further, EACOR is combined with two-dimensional Kapur’s entropy to search for the optimal thresholds. An experiment on the IEEE CEC2014 benchmark function was conducted to measure the reliable global search capability of the EACOR algorithm in the proposed model. Moreover, we have also conducted several sets of experiments to test the validity of the image segmentation model proposed in this paper. The experimental results show that the segmented images from the proposed model outperform the comparison method in several evaluation metrics. Ultimately, the model proposed in this paper can provide high-quality samples for subsequent analysis of melanoma pathology images.

Dissipativity-Based Intermittent Fault Detection and Tolerant Control for Multiple Delayed Uncertain Switched Fuzzy Stochastic Systems With Unmeasurable Premise Variables

This study focuses on dissipativity-based fault detection for multiple delayed uncertain switched Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy stochastic systems with intermittent faults and unmeasurable premise variables. Nonlinear dynamics, exogenous disturbances, and measurement noise are also considered. In contrast to the existing study works, there is a wider range of applications. An observer is explored to detect faults. A controller is studied to stabilize the considered system. A piecewise fuzzy Lyapunov function is collected to obtain delay-dependent sufficient conditions by means of linear matrix inequalities. The designed observer has less conservatism. In addition, the strict [Formula: see text]dissipativity performance is achieved in the residual dynamic. Besides, the elaborate H_∞ performance and the elaborate H_ performance are also acquired. Finally, the availability of the method in this study is verified through two simulation examples.

Identification and control of dynamical systems using different architectures of recurrent fuzzy system

Fuzzy logic based systems are very widely used for modeling and control of complex non-linear, plants. Fuzzy systems require the knowledge about the structure of the dynamic plant in order to achieve fruitful results. Recurrent Fuzzy systems (RFS) are a variation of fuzzy systems and have the ability to model and control dynamic plants without using the information about the structure of the plant. This paper presents identification and control of non-linear dynamical systems using two different architectures of recurrent fuzzy system (RFS). It highlights the importance of RFS over the conventional type-1 fuzzy based system. The objective of system identification as well as control has been achieved using both the architectures of RFS and the simulation results clearly show their efficiency. This paper also highlights yet another advantage of RFS over the conventional type-1 fuzzy systems which comes into light when dealing with higher order systems. The paper explains how the computational complexity can be greatly reduced by using RFS for higher order dynamical systems. A comparative analysis between the conventional type-1 fuzzy system and the two recurrent fuzzy systems has also been performed.

Enhanced Ant Colony Optimization with Dynamic Mutation and Ad Hoc Initialization for Improving the Design of TSK-Type Fuzzy System

This paper proposes an enhanced ant colony optimization with dynamic mutation and ad hoc initialization, ACODM-I, for improving the accuracy of Takagi-Sugeno-Kang- (TSK-) type fuzzy systems design. Instead of the generic initialization usually used in most population-based algorithms, ACODM-I proposes an ad hoc application-specific initialization for generating the initial ant solutions to improve the accuracy of fuzzy system design. The generated initial ant solutions are iteratively improved by a new approach incorporating the dynamic mutation into the existing continuous ACO (ACO_R). The introduced dynamic mutation balances the exploration ability and convergence rate by providing more diverse search directions in the early stage of optimization process. Application examples of two zero-order TSK-type fuzzy systems for dynamic plant tracking control and one first-order TSK-type fuzzy system for the prediction of the chaotic time series have been simulated to validate the proposed algorithm. Performance comparisons with ACO_R and different advanced algorithms or neural-fuzzy models verify the superiority of the proposed algorithm. The effects on the design accuracy and convergence rate yielded by the proposed initialization and introduced dynamic mutation have also been discussed and verified in the simulations.
