Abstract
BACKGROUND Curriculum revision in healthcare programs occurs frequently, but to undergo a whole degree transformation is less common. Also, the outcomes of curriculum redesign interventions on the selfreported clinical decision making, experiences, and perceptions of graduates of health education programs is unclear. This study evaluated these factors as an outcome of a pharmacy degree whole-curriculum transformation. METHODS A 25-item cross-sectional end-of-course survey was developed to evaluate pharmacy student decisions, experiences, and perceptions upon completion of degree, pre- and post- curriculum transformation. A two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to determine whether the responses to the items classed within the main factors differed across the two cohorts. Independent t-tests were used to examine the student responses to the individual questions between the two cohorts. RESULTS Graduates from the transformed degree had greater self-efficacy in clinical activities, were more satisfied with their education, found course activities more useful, and were more confident in their career choice. Transformed pharmacy degree students also reported spending more time on weekdays and weekends on activities such as attending lectures and working. Student satisfaction with their choice to attend pharmacy school was also significantly higher in transformed degree students. CONCLUSIONS Responses to the end of degree survey indicate that students who completed the transformed pharmacy curriculum have had positive experiences throughout their degree and felt more prepared for practice as pharmacists in comparison to students who completed the established degree. These results add value to those collected from other sources (e.g., student evaluations, assessment scores, preceptors focus groups, and other stakeholder inputs) consistent with a comprehensive quality improvement model.

Abstract
The objective of this review is to examine the current literature related to interpersonal communication skill development within undergraduate paramedicine. Interpersonal communication is a vital paramedic skill, with evidence demonstrating it leads to improved patient outcomes and satisfaction and reduces medical errors. Interpersonal communication is a core capability set by paramedicine regulatory bodies, and it is the responsibility of accredited universities to ensure graduates are ready for industry and possess all required skills and attributes. In order to be included in this scoping review, all articles were required to meet a pre-determined 'population, concept, context' (PCC) framework. The population was undergraduate paramedic students within the context of their undergraduate paramedicine programs, and the concept was interpersonal communication education/teaching/training. In June 2021, a search was conducted using CINAHL, Medline, Emcare and ERIC. The articles had to be written in English and published between 2011 and 2021 and non-research sources were excluded. 176 articles were identified in this search and after screening for duplicates and relevancy, 15 articles were found to be eligible. The literature highlighted 4 key themes, including graduate perception of 'work readiness', and a variety of learning experiences including alternative work integrated learning (WIL), interactions with specific patient groups and professional learning experiences. The literature demonstrated that interpersonal communication skills are fostered through human interactions, WIL and simulation, within undergraduate paramedicine programs. Findings from the literature review indicate that practising communication through human interactions, afford an increase in confidence, awareness of ability and empathy, and an increased awareness of preconceived biases. Intraprofessional and interprofessional simulation teaching methods demonstrate the potential to build students confidence in communication and awareness of what is required to function well in a team.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Infant or child death is reported as being the most distressing type of case paramedics attend. Student paramedics also identify supporting bereaved families as an area associated with low confidence. This study evaluated the CARES skills framework (Connect to emotion, Attention training, Reflective listening, Empathy, Support help seeking) as a peer support model to encourage student paramedics to talk about grief and death related to infants and children. METHOD A convenience sample of first-year paramedic students (target n = 154) was recruited from a single Australian regional university. A modified nominal group technique method was used following a student debriefing session designed to identify problems, generate solutions, and make decisions regarding the efficacy of the CARES skills framework. RESULTS Of 154 eligible participants, 141 participated (92% response rate). Peer social support normalized students' emotions related to death and dying. Although naming emotions was challenging, students reported that the CARES model facilitated a safe environment to talk about death and dying. Students reported feeling heard and connected to their peers during the exercise and an enhanced sense of belonging after the exercise. CONCLUSIONS Findings contribute to evidence that suggests the CARES model is a useful mechanism to enhance peer social support in paramedic students.

Abstract
Background An integrated care network between emergency, specialized and primary care services can prevent repeated hospitalizations and the institutionalized death of terminally ill patients in palliative care (PC). To identify the perception of health professionals regarding the concept of PC and their care experiences with this type of patient in a pre-hospital care (PHC) service in Brazil. Methods Study with a qualitative approach, of interpretative nature, based on the perspective of Ricoeur’s Dialectical Hermeneutics. Results Three central themes emerged out of the professionals’ speeches: (1) unpreparedness of the team, (2) decision making, and (3) dysthanasia. Conclusions It is necessary to invest in professional training associated with PC in the home context and its principles, such as: affirming life and considering death as a normal process not rushing or postponing death; integrating the psychological and spiritual aspects of patient and family care, including grief counseling and improved quality of life, adopting a specific policy for PC that involves all levels of care, including PHC, and adopt a unified information system, as well as more effective procedures that favor the respect for the patients’ will, without generating dissatisfaction to the team and the family.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This paper presents the first Naturalistic Decision Making model of prehospital resuscitation decision-making, which has clear implications for education, practice and support. METHODS A mixed-methods exploratory sequential research design consisting of interviews with ambulance personnel (study 1), focus groups with ambulance educators, managers and peer supporters (study 2), and an online survey of graduating paramedic students (study 3). This paper reports the model developed from integrated findings, across all three studies. All research was undertaken in New Zealand and underpinned by a critical realist worldview. RESULTS The Prehospital Resuscitation Decision Making model identifies key processes, challenges and facilitators before, during and after ambulance personnel attend a cardiac arrest event. It is the only descriptive model of resuscitation decision making which acknowledges the decision-maker, non-prognostic factors and the importance of adequate preparation and support. CONCLUSIONS This research project is the first to comprehensively explore and model ambulance personnel perspectives on decisions to start, continue or stop resuscitation. The decision-making process is complex and difficult to simply formularise. Education and supports must assist ambulance personnel in navigating this complexity. Where resuscitation is withheld or terminated, ambulance personnel need to feel confident that they can effectively provide after-death care.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Death notification is a difficult task commonly encountered during prehospital care and may lead to burnout among EMS professionals. Lack of training could potentiate the relationship between death notification and burnout. The first objective of this study was to describe EMS professionals' experience with death notification and related training. The secondary objective was to assess the associations between death notification delivery, training, and burnout. Methods: We administered an electronic questionnaire to a random sample of nationally-certified EMS professionals. Work-related burnout was measured using the validated Copenhagen Burnout Inventory. Analysis was stratified by certification level to basic life support (BLS) and advanced life support (ALS). The association between the number of adult (≥18 years) patient death notifications delivered in the prior 12 months and burnout was assessed using multivariable logistic regression to adjust for confounding variables. Multivariable logistic regression modeling was used to assess the adjusted association between training and burnout among those who reported delivering at least one death notification in the prior 12 months. Adjusted odds ratios (aOR) and 95% confidence intervals are reported (95% CI). Results: We received 2,333/19,330 (12%) responses and 1,514 were included in the analysis. Most ALS respondents (77%) and one-third of BLS respondents (33%) reported at least one adult death notification in the past year. Approximately half of respondents reported receiving death notification training as part of their initial EMS education program (51% BLS; 52% ALS) and fewer reported receiving continuing education (30% BLS; 44% ALS). Delivering a greater number of death notifications was associated with increased odds of burnout. Among those who delivered at least one death notification, continuing education was associated with reduced odds of burnout. Conclusion: Many EMS professionals reported delivering at least one death notification within the past year. Yet, fewer than half reported training related to death notification during initial EMS education and even fewer reported receiving continuing education. More of those who delivered death notifications experienced burnout, while continuing education was associated with reduced odds of burnout. Future work is needed to develop and evaluate death notification training specifically for EMS professionals.
