Abstract
A series of 2-(chloromethyl)-3-(4-methyl-6-oxo-5-[(E)-phenyldiazenyl]-2-thioxo-5,6-dihydropyrimidine-1(2H)-yl)quinazoline-4(3H)-ones 9a-j was synthesized by treating 2-(chloroacetyl)amino benzoic acid with 3-amino-6-methyl-5-[(E)-phenyldiazenyl]-2-thioxo-2,5-dihydropyrimidine-4(3H)-one 8a-j and was screened for in vitro antibacterial activities against a representative panel of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The compounds were synthesized in excellent yields and the structures were corroborated on the basis of IR, (1)H NMR, Mass and elemental analysis data. All the synthesized compounds elicited the potent inhibitory action against all the tested bacterial stains. Furthermore, in order to explore the antioxidant potential of newly synthesized compounds, the free radical scavenging activity measurement were performed by the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) assay method. It is revealed from the antioxidant screening results that the compounds 9c and f manifested profound antioxidant potential.

Abstract
Nocardia are aerobic, catalase-positive, Gram-positive microorganisms and typically acid-alcohol fast at some stage of the growth cycle. The genus Nocardia, a member of Mycolata group, is clinically important because it is an opportunistic pathogen. The sulfonamide derivative medicines are prefered to cure infection caused by Nocardia, such as nocardiaosis and mycetoma. Antimicrobial activities of seven sulfonamide derivatives have been investigated against some Nocardia species and isolates using the disk diffusion method on Sensitest agar medium (Oxoid). Thirty-six organisms, which consisted of 10 soil isolates selected from different clusters of Aymen study (2003), six clinical isolates provided by Ege University, Medical School, Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology Department, four reference strains, 15 type strains and a control strain of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 43300 were tested. The strongest inhibition was observed in the cases of IV [N-(2-hydroxy-4-nitro-phenyl)-4-methyl-benzensulfonamid], V [N-(2-hydroxy-5-nitro-phenyl)-4-methyl-benzensulfonamid] and III [N-(2-Hydroxy-phenyl)-4-methyl-benzenesulfonamide] against Nocardia. Introducing a hydroxyl group into the ortho position on the ring increased the antimicrobial activity. Substitution of the electron withdrawing groups such as a nitro group increased the antimicrobial activity remarkably.

Abstract
Background Staphylococcus aureus is a non-motile, gram positive, non-sporforming, facultative anaerobic microorganism. It is one of the important bacteria as a potential pathogen specifically for nosocomial infections. The sulfonamide derivative medicines are preferred to cure infection caused by S. aureus due to methicillin resistance. Methods Antimicrobial activity of four sulfonamide derivatives have been investigated against 50 clinical isolates of S. aureus and tested by using MIC and disc diffusion methods. 50 clinical isolate which collected from specimens of patients who are given medical treatment in Ondokuz Mayis University Medical School Hospital. A control strain of S. aureus ATCC 29213 was also tested. Results The strongest inhibition was observed in the cases of I [N-(2-hydroxy-4-nitro-phenyl)-4-methyl-benzensulfonamid], and II [N-(2-hydroxy-5-nitro-phenyl)-4-methyl-benzensulfonamid] against S. aureus. Compound I [N-(2-hydroxy-4-nitro-phenyl)-4-methyl-benzensulfonamid] showed higher effect on 21 S. aureus MRSAisolates than oxacillin antibiotic. Introducing an electron withdrawing on the ring increased the antimicrobial activity remarkably. Conclusion This study may help to suggest an alternative possible leading compound for development of new antimicrobial agents against MRSA and MSSA resistant S. aureus. It was also shown here that that clinical isolates of 50 S. aureus have various resistance patterns against to four sulfonamide derivatives. It may also be emphasized here that in vitro antimicrobial susceptibility testing results for S. aureus need standardization with further studies and it should also have a correlation with in vivo therapeutic response experiments.

Abstract
A new series of 5-[2-(2-methylprop1-enyl)-1H benzimidazol-1yl]-4,6-diphenyl-pyrimidin-2-(5H)-thione derivatives [3a-q] has been synthesized and subjected to evaluate their antibacterial properties. All the synthesized compounds of the series displayed, remarkable activity in comparison to standard drug (ampicillin). A number of descriptors were tested to adjudge a quantitative correlation between activity and structural features. However, significant correlations have emerged between activity and physicochemical parameters viz. polarizability parameter (MR). Moreover, results are interpreted on the basis of multiple regression and cross-validation methodology.

Abstract
A new series of 10-methyl-6-oxo-5-arylazo-6,7-dihydro-5H-[1,3]azaphospholo[1,5-d][1,4]benzodiazepin-2-phospha-3-ethoxycarbonyl-1-phosphorus dichlorides 11a-p has been synthesized and evaluated as antimicrobial agents. Structures of all the synthesized compounds were established on the basis of elemental analysis and spectroscopic data. Quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) investigations were applied to find out the correlation between the experimentally evaluated activity with various parameters of the compounds studied. QSAR equations showed that the molecular refractivity correlates significantly with the antimicrobial activity.
