Abstract
The reaction of propargylamines with isothiocyanates results in the selective formation of iminothiazolidines, aminothiazolines or mixed thiazolidine-thiourea compounds under mild conditions. It has been observed that secondary propargylamines lead to the selective formation of cyclic 2-amino-2-thiazoline derivatives, while primary propargylamines form iminothiazoline species. In addition, these cyclic thiazoline derivatives can further react with an excess of isothiocyanate to give rise to thiazolidine-thiourea compounds. These species can also be achieved by reaction of propargylamines with isothiocynates in a molar ratio of 1 : 2. Coordination studies of these heterocyclic species towards silver and gold with different stoichiometries have been carried out and complexes of the type [ML(PPh3)]OTf, [ML2]OTf (M = Ag, Au) or [Au(C6F5)L] have been synthesised. Preliminary studies of the cytotoxic activity in lung cancer cells have also been performed in both ligands and complexes, showing that although the ligands do not exhibit anticancer activity, their coordination to metals, especially silver, greatly enhances the cytotoxic activity.

Abstract
Background:
The development of drug-resistant by bacteria appears rapidly and thus making
the effectiveness of antibiotics severely limited.
Methods:
A series of thiourea derivatives was synthesized, characterized and evaluated for their in vitro
antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral activities.
Results:
Structures of the newly synthesized compounds were confirmed by elemental and spectral
analysis. The biological results showed that some of the target compounds displayed comparable antimicrobial
and antiviral activities with reference drugs. Structure-activity relationship studies revealed that
the ortho- chloro or fluoro substituted phenyl at Ar1 and substituted pyridinyl at Ar2 positions of the
thiourea nucleus are essential for their in vitro antimicrobial and anti-HIV activity. In particular, compounds
8 and 10 showed better activity against the tested bacteria, fungi and viral strains than other
synthesized PET derivatives reported in the present study.
Conclusion:
These results provide an encouraging lead that could be used for the development of new
potent antiviral and antimicrobial agents

Abstract
HIV infection still has a serious health and socio-economical impact and is one of the primary causes of morbidity and mortality all over the world. HIV infection and the AIDS pandemic are still matters of great concern, especially in less developed countries where the access to highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) is limited. Patient compliance is another serious drawback. Nowadays, HAART is the treatment of choice although it is not the panacea. Despite the fact that it suppresses viral replication at undetectable viral loads and prevents progression of HIV infection into AIDS HAART has several pitfalls, namely, long-term side-effects, drug resistance development, emergence of drug-resistant viruses, low compliance and the intolerance of some patients to these drugs. Moreover, another serious health concern is the event of co-infection with more than one pathogen at the same time (e.g. HIV and HCV, HBV, herpes viruses, etc). Currently, the multi-target drug approach has become an exciting strategy to address complex diseases and overcome drug resistance development. Such multifunctional molecules combine in their structure pharmacophores that may simultaneously interfere with multiple targets and their use may eventually be more safe and efficacious than that involving a mixture of separate molecules because of avoidance or delay of drug resistance, lower incidence of unwanted drug-drug interactions and improved compliance. In this review we focus on multifunctional molecules with dual activity against different targets of the HIV life cycle or able to block replication, not only of HIV but also of other viruses that are often co-pathogens of HIV. The different approaches are documented by selected examples.

Abstract
A series of new thiourea derivatives of 1,3-thiazole have been synthesized. All obtained compounds were tested in vitro against a number of microorganisms, including Gram-positive cocci, Gram-negative rods and Candida albicans. Compounds were also tested for their in vitro tuberculostatic activity against the Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv strain, as well as two 'wild' strains isolated from tuberculosis patients. Compounds 3 and 9 showed significant inhibition against Gram-positive cocci (standard strains and hospital strain). The range of MIC values is 2-32 µg/mL. Products 3 and 9 effectively inhibited the biofilm formation of both methicillin-resistant and standard strains of S. epidermidis. The halogen atom, especially at the 3rd position of the phenyl group, is significantly important for this antimicrobial activity. Moreover, all obtained compounds resulted in cytotoxicity and antiviral activity on a large set of DNA and RNA viruses, including Human Immunodeficiency Virus type 1 (HIV-1) and other several important human pathogens. Compound 4 showed activity against HIV-1 and Coxsackievirus type B5. Seven compounds resulted in cytotoxicity against MT-4 cells (CC50<10 µM).

Abstract
A series of new thiourea derivatives of 1,2,4-triazole have been synthesized. The difference in structures of obtained compounds are directly connected with the kind of isothiocyanate (aryl/alkyl). The (1)H NMR, (13)C NMR, MS methods were used to confirm structures of obtained thiourea derivatives. The molecular structure of (1, 17) was determined by an X-ray analysis. Two of the new compounds (8 and 14) were tested for their pharmacological activity on animal central nervous system (CNS) in behavioural animal tests. The results presented in this work indicate the possible involvement of the serotonergic system in the activity of 8 and 14. In the case of 14 is also a possible link between its activity and the endogenous opioid system. All obtained compounds were tested for antibacterial activity against gram-positive cocci, gram-negative rods and antifungal activity. Compounds (1, 2, 5, 7, 9) showed significant inhibition against gram-positive cocci. Microbiological evaluation was carried out over 20 standard strains and 30 hospital strains. Selected compounds (1-13) were examined for cytotoxicity, antitumor, and anti-HIV activity.

In the title mol-ecule, C(17)H(21)FN(2)S, the mean planes of the benzene ring and the thio-urea fragment form a dihedral angle of 61.93 (9)°. In the crystal, pairs of weak N-H⋯S inter-actions link the mol-ecules, forming inversion dimers.

Abstract
The title compound, C(15)H(13)NO(3), crystallizes with three independent mol-ecules per asymmetric unit (Z' = 3). One of these mol-ecules is found to have a configuration with a greater twist between its two aromatic rings than the other two [compare 70.26 (13) and 72.31 (12)° with 84.22 (12)°]. There are also differences in the number and nature of the weak inter-molecular C-H⋯O contacts formed by each of the three mol-ecules.

Abstract
Four double-drug HIV NRTI/NNRTI inhibitors 15a-d of the type [d4U]-spacer-[HI-236] in which the spacer is varied as 1-butynyl (15a), propargyl-1-PEG (15b), propargyl-2-PEG (15c) and propargyl-4-PEG (15d) have been synthesized and biologically evaluated as RT inhibitors against HIV-1. The key step in their synthesis involved a Sonogashira coupling of 5-iodo d4U's benzoate with an alkynylated tethered HI-236 precursor followed by introduction of the HI-236 thiourea functionality. Biological evaluation in both cell-culture (MT-2 cells) as well as using an in vitro RT assay revealed 15a-c to be all more active than d4T. However, overall the results indicate the derivatives are acting as chain-extended NNRTIs in which for 15b-d the nucleoside component is likely situated outside of the pocket but with no evidence for any synergistic double binding between the NRTI and NNRTI sites. This is attributed, in part, to the lack of phosphorylation of the nucleoside component of the double-drug as a result of kinase recognition failure, which is not improved upon with the phosphoramidate of 15d incorporating a 4-PEG spacer.
