Abstract
In the last 2 decades, renewed attention to neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) has spurred the development of antiparasitic agents, especially in light of emerging drug resistance. The need for new drugs has required in vitro screening methods using parasite culture. Furthermore, clinical laboratories sought to correlate in vitro susceptibility methods with treatment outcomes, most notably with malaria. Parasites with their various life cycles present greater complexity than bacteria, for which standardized susceptibility methods exist. This review catalogs the state-of-the-art methodologies used to evaluate the effects of drugs on key human parasites from the point of view of drug discovery as well as the need for laboratory methods that correlate with clinical outcomes.

Abstract
The inhibition performance and adsorption behaviour of 4-hydroxy-N′-[(E)-(1H-indole-2-ylmethylidene)] benzohydrazide (HIBH) on mild steel in 1 M HCl solution were tested by potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The inhibition efficiency of HIBH increases with increase in inhibitor concentration in the temperature range 30–60°C. Polarisation curves indicate that HIBH is a mixed inhibitor, affecting both cathodic and anodic corrosion currents. The adsorption process of HIBH at the mild steel/hydrochloric acid solution interface obeyed Langmuir adsorption isotherm model and inhibition takes place by mixed adsorption, predominantly chemisorption. The activation and thermodynamic parameters for the corrosion inhibition process were calculated to elaborate the mechanism of corrosion inhibition.

Abstract
The corrosion inhibition of the aged 18 Ni 250 grade maraging steel in 0.5 M sulphuric acid by diacetyl monoxime thiosemicarbazone (DAMTSC) at 303–323 K has been investigated by potentiodynamic polarization, EIS, and SEM techniques. Good inhibition efficiency of DAMTSC was revealed even at low concentrations, which increased with the increase in DAMTSC concentration and decreased with the increase in temperature. The activation energies, , as well as other thermodynamic parameters (; ; ), were evaluated and discussed. The adsorption of DAMTSC on the aged maraging steel surface was found to obey the Langmuir adsorption isotherm model and shows mixed type inhibition behavior.

Abstract
The synthesis and characterization of a number of organometallic ruthenium(II) complexes containing a series of bidentate thiosemicarbazone ligands derived from piperonal is reported. The structure of compounds have been confirmed by spectroscopic analysis (IR and NMR) as well as X-ray crystallographic analysis of [(η⁶-p-cymene)Ru(pPhTSC)Cl]Cl (4) (pPhTSC is piperonal-N(4)-phenylthiosemicarbazone). The interaction of the complexes ([(η⁶-p-cymene)Ru(pEtTSC)Cl]Cl) (3) (pEtTSC is piperonal-N(4)-ethylthiosemicarbazone) and 4 with calf thymus DNA, human serum albumin (HSA) and pBR322 plasmid DNA were studied by spectroscopic, gel electrophoresis and hydrodynamic methods. The apparent binding constant for the interaction with DNA was determined to be 3.97×10³ M⁻¹ and 4.07×10³ M⁻¹ at 293 K for 3 and 4 respectively. The complexes bind strongly to HSA with binding constants of 2.94×10⁴ M⁻¹ and 12.2×10⁴ M⁻¹ at 296 K for 3 and 4 respectively. The in vitro anticancer activity of 3 and 4 has been evaluated against two human colon cancer cell line (HCT-116 and Caco-2) with IC50 values in the range of 26–150 μM. Both 3 and 4 show good activity as a catalytic inhibitor of human topoisomerase II at concentrations as low as 20 μM. The proficiency of 3 and 4 to act as antibacterial agents was also evaluated against six pathogenic bacterial strains with the best activity seen against Gram-positive strains.

Abstract
A rapid and efficient method for the synthesis of novel chenodeoxycholic acid thiosemicarbazone derivatives under solvent-free conditions using microwave irradiation is reported. Ten novel compounds have been synthesised in good yields. Their structures were elucidated by 1H NMR, IR, ESI-MS spectra and elemental analysis. Preliminary results showed that some of these compounds possess inhibitory effects against S. typhimurium and E. coli.

Abstract
A simple method for the synthesis of new deoxycholic acid bis thiocarbazones under solvent-free conditions using microwave irradiation has been developed. Its main advantages are short reaction times, good conversions and the environmentally friendly nature of the process. Their structures were characterised by 1H NMR, IR, ESI-MS spectra and elemental analysis. The preliminary results indicate that some of these compounds possess inhibitory effects against Escherichia coli.

Abstract
In continuation of our earlier work on benzothiadiazines, we have prepared a series of nitrofuran, nitrothiophene and arylfuran coupled benzothiadiazines and evaluated them for antimycobacterial and antibacterial activities. One of the compounds 2f has shown good in vitro antimycobacterial activity. All the synthesized compounds have shown moderate to good antibacterial activity.
