Abstract
OBJECTIVES This nationwide, multicentric, retrospective analysis of 1,126,946 COVID-19 cases (March 2020-June 2022) aims to elucidate the impact of COVID-19 vaccination on mortality in patients with a sole solid malignancy. METHODS Using data from the national digital medical record repository, outcomes were compared among fully vaccinated and nonvaccinated cohorts, factoring in gender, virus type, age, vaccination status, vaccine type, and cancer type. Logistic regression calculated odds ratios (OR) and their significance. RESULTS Among 6,050 patients with both cancer and comorbidities, 1,797 had only solid malignancy. Vaccinated individuals in this group had reduced mortality rates, especially those >63 years (OR 0.169 [95% confidence interval [CI] 0.090-0.317]; P < .001). Lower deaths were observed in non-ICU (OR 0.193 [95% CI 0.097-0.382]; P < .001) and ICU cases (OR 0.224 [95% CI 0.077-0.646]; P = .003), with both vaccine types. No statistically significant benefits were observed against delta and omicron variants. Intrathoracic malignancies (OR 0.376 [95% CI 0.146-0.971]; P = .043) and palliative treatment (OR 0.384 [95% CI 0.192-0.766]; P = .006) showed vaccination benefits. Logistic regression revealed a higher fatal risk in nonvaccinated males >63. Propensity score matching supported these outcomes. CONCLUSIONS Patients with sole solid malignancies face elevated COVID-19 mortality risk, particularly without active cytostatic therapy, with advanced disease on palliative treatment, or intrathoracic malignancies.

Abstract
Introduction: The role of the type, stage and status of cancer in the outcome of COVID-19 remains unclear. Moreover, the characteristic pathological changes of severe COVID-19 reveled by laboratory and radiological findings are similar to those due to the development of cancer itself and antineoplastic therapies. Objective: To identify potential predictors of mortality of COVID-19 in cancer patients. Materials and methods: A retrospective and cross-sectional study was carried out in patients with clinical suspicion of COVID-19 who were confirmed for COVID-19 diagnosis by RT-PCR testing at the National Institute of Neoplastic Diseases between April and December 2020. Demographic, clinical, laboratory and radiological data were analyzed. Statistical analyses included area under the curve and univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses. Results: A total of 226 patients had clinical suspicion of COVID-19, the diagnosis was confirmed in 177 (78.3%), and 70/177 (39.5%) died. Age, active cancer, leukocyte count ≥12.8 × 109/L, urea ≥7.4 mmol/L, ferritin ≥1,640, lactate ≥2.0 mmol/L, and lung involvement ≥35% were found to be independent predictors of COVID-19 mortality. Conclusion: Active cancer represents the main prognosis factor of death, while the role of cancer stage and type is unclear. Chest CT is a useful tool in the prognosis of death from COVID-19 in cancer patients. It is a challenge to establish the prognostic utility of laboratory markers as their altered values it could have either oncological or pandemic origins.

Abstract
Patients with cancer demonstrate an increased vulnerability for infection and severe disease by SARS-CoV-2, the causative agent of COVID-19. Risk factors for severe COVID-19 include comorbidities, uncontrolled disease, and current line of treatment. Although COVID-19 vaccines have afforded some level of protection against infection and severe disease among patients with solid tumors and hematologic malignancies, decreased immunogenicity and real-world effectiveness have been observed among this population compared with healthy individuals. Characterizing and understanding the immune response to increasing doses or differing schedules of COVID-19 vaccines among patients with cancer is important to inform clinical and public health practices. In this article, we review SARS-CoV-2 susceptibility and immune responses to COVID-19 vaccination in patients with solid tumors, hematologic malignancies, and those receiving hematopoietic stem cell transplant or chimeric-antigen receptor T-cell therapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Studies addressing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in patients with hematological malignancies have reported mortality rates of up to 40%; however, included predominantly hospitalized patients. METHODS During the first year of the pandemic, we followed adult patients with hematological malignancies treated at a tertiary center in Jerusalem, Israel, who contracted COVID-19, with the aim of studying risk factors for adverse COVID-19-related outcomes. We used remote communication to track patients managed at home-isolation, and patient questioning to assess the source of COVID-19 infection, community versus nosocomial. RESULTS Our series included 183 patients, median age was 62.5 years, 72% had at least one comorbidity and 39% were receiving active antineoplastic treatment. Hospitalization, critical COVID-19, and mortality rates were 32%, 12.6%, and 9.8%, respectively, remarkably lower than previously reported. Age, multiple comorbidities, and active antineoplastic treatment were significantly associated with hospitalization due to COVID-19. Treatment with monoclonal antibodies was strongly associated with both hospitalization and critical COVID-19. In older (≥60) patients not receiving active antineoplastic treatment, mortality, and severe COVID-19 rates were comparable to those of the general Israeli population. We did not detect patients that contracted COVID-19 within the Hematology Division. CONCLUSION These findings are relevant for the future management of patients with hematological malignancies in COVID-19-affected regions.
