Abstract
Mercury is a highly toxic heavy metal pollutant. It is of great significance to develop cost-effective mercury pollution control technologies of coal-fired flue gas. Among various mercury from flue gas removal methods, the application of existing air pollution control devices (APCDs) to remove mercury from flue gas is one of the most valuable methods because it doesn't need to install additional mercury removal equipment, reducing the cost of mercury removal. This review summarizes the recent progress of mercury from flue gas removal by APCDs (e.g., SCR denitration device, WFGD system and dust removal device). SCR denitration device can achieve partial removal of mercury in flue gas through combined with WFGD system, but easy inactivation and poor sulfur/water/heavy metals resistance of SCR catalyzers are still the main problems. WFGD systems can remove most of Hg2+ (80%-95%), but have low treatment ability for Hg0. Various oxidants can effectively oxidize Hg0 into Hg2+. However, traditional oxidants have high prices and secondary pollution due to the formation of by-products. Fabric filters (FFs), electrostatic precipitators (ESPs) and hybrid fabric filters (HFs) can all control the emission of mercury in the flue gas to a certain extent, especially can effectively remove most of HgP and part of Hg2+, but has low removal capacity for Hg0. Compared with ESP, FF has better capture efficiency for Hg2+ and Hg0, and a combination of ESP and FF, that is HF, can effectively improve the mercury removal capacity.

Abstract
Doped cerium oxide is known for its reduction properties that are utilized in catalytic applications as well as in thermochemical cycling to produce solar fuels. Upon reduction of the lattice, oxygen vacancies and polarons are formed leading to a highly concentrated solution of defects in which the interactions of defects cannot be neglected anymore. In this study, the effect of defect interactions on the free energy of reduction for doped ceria with composition Ce1-x-yRExZryO2-x/2-δ was investigated by large scale Metropolis Monte Carlo multi-stage sampling simulations based on first-principles calculations. The simulations allowed the prediction of the relation between oxygen partial pressure and non-stoichiometry for the highly interacting, non-ideal system. The results show that the non-ideality observed in experiments can be traced back to the interactions of defects and allow prediction of the reduction behavior for various dopant types, dopant fractions, temperatures, and non-stoichiometries.

Investigation of the Thermodynamic Properties of Surface Ceria and Ceria–Zirconia Solid Solution Films Prepared by Atomic Layer Deposition on Al2O3. INORGANICS 2017. Abstract
The properties of 20 wt % CeO2 and 21 wt % Ce0.5Zr0.5O2 films, deposited onto a γ-Al2O3 by Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD), were compared to bulk Ce0.5Zr0.5O2 and γ-Al2O3-supported samples on which 20 wt % CeO2 or 21 wt % CeO2–ZrO2 were deposited by impregnation. Following calcination to 1073 K, the ALD-prepared catalysts showed much lower XRD peak intensities, implying that these samples existed as thin films, rather than larger crystallites. Following the addition of 1 wt % Pd to each of the supports, the ALD-prepared samples exhibited much higher rates for CO oxidation due to better interfacial contact between the Pd and ceria-containing phases. The redox properties of the ALD samples and bulk Ce0.5Zr0.5O2 were measured by determining the oxidation state of the ceria as a function of the H2:H2O ratio using flow titration and coulometric titration. The 20 wt % CeO2 ALD film exhibited similar thermodynamics to that measured previously for a sample prepared by impregnation. However, the sample with 21 wt % Ce0.5Zr0.5O2 on γ-Al2O3 reduced at a much higher P O 2 and showed evidence for transition between the Ce0.5Zr0.5O2 and Ce0.5Zr0.5O1.75 phases.

Abstract
We examine the role of Fe(3+) and vacancies (V(O)) on the magnetism of Fe-doped CeO2 nanoparticles. Magnetic nanoparticles of Ce(100-x)Fe(x)O2 (x = 0, 0.26, 1.82, 2.64, 5.26, 6.91, and 7.22) were prepared by a co-precipitation method, and their structural, compositional and magnetic properties were investigated. The CeO2 nanoparticles had a mixed valance of Ce(4+) and Ce(3+) ions, and doping introduced Fe(3+) ions. The decrease in Ce(3+) and increase in Fe(3+) concentrations indicated the presence of more [Fe(3+) + V(O)(2-)] complexes with Fe loading in the particles. Charge neutralization, Fe(3+) + V(O)(2-) + 2Ce(4+) ↔ 2Ce(3+) + Fe(3+), identified the impact of V(O) on the magnetism, where our results suggest that the Fe-doped CeO2 nanoparticle magnetism is mediated by a majority of [Fe(3+) + V(O)(2-)]-Ce(3+) -[Fe(3+) + V(O)(2-)] complexes.

Abstract
Monolayer films of highly catalytically active Pd@CeO2 core-shell nanocomposites were grafted onto a planar YSZ(100) (yttria-stabilized zirconia, YSZ) single crystal support that was functionalized with a CVD-deposited layer of triethoxy(octyl)silane (TEOOS). The resulting monolayer films were found to exhibit exceptionally high thermal stability compared to bare Pd nanoparticles with the Pd@CeO2 nanostructures remaining intact and highly dispersed upon calcining in air at temperatures in excess of 1000 K. The CeO2 shells were also shown to be more easily reduced than bulk CeO2, which may partially explain their unique activity as oxidation catalysts. The use of both TEOOS and tetradecylphosphonic acid (TDPA) as coupling agents for dispersing Pd@CeO2 core-shell nanocomposites onto a high surface area γ-Al2O3 support is also demonstrated.
