Abstract
Fruit spoilage caused by oxidation and microbial infection exacerbates resource wastage. Although starch films including chitosan possessed admirable biocompatibility owing to great biodegradability compared with conventional plastics, deficient antibacterial and antioxidant capacity restricted food shelf life. Herein, an environmentally friendly antibacterial film (CS/G-CDs) was constructed by carbon dots derived from Cirsii Herba (CDs), which was formed through high affinity resulting from hydrogen bonding between chitosan molecules and hydroxyl originating from CDs. The prepared CDs presented homogeneous and monodisperse spherical structures with an ultrasmall size, providing favorable conditions for uniform film formation. Encouragingly, the antioxidant capacity of CS/G-CDs increased 5.00-fold, followed by an antibacterial rate of up to 97.0%. Dramatically, CS/G-CDs revealed glorious UV shielding efficacy (99.9% for UVB and 98.2% for UVA), and its preservation time for blueberries was remarkably extended 8 days longer than that of the chitosan film. Overall, Chinese herb-derived antibacterial films exhibited magnified antibacterial/antioxidant properties and great biocompatibility, which provided a promising strategy for sustainable development of packaging materials.

Abstract
The present study reports on the valorisation of starch waste biomass to produce dual-active cryogels and hydrogels able to adsorb water and deliver antimicrobial substances for fresh food packaging applications. Starch hydrogels were prepared by oxidation with sodium metaperiodate in water and mild conditions, while cryogels were obtained by freeze-drying process. To explore the role of starch composition on the final properties of materials, two starches differing in amylose/amylopectin ratio, were evaluated. The prepared materials were microstructurally and morphologically characterized by FTIR and NMR spectroscopy (1D, 2D, and DOSY experiments), and SEM microscopy. To provide the materials with active properties, they were loaded with antimicrobial molecules by absorption, or by crosslinking via Schiff-base reaction. All materials demonstrated high water absorption capacity and ability to deliver volatile molecules, including diacetyl and complex mixtures like mint essential oil. The release profiles of the adsorbed molecules were determined through quantitative NMR spectroscopy over time. The antibacterial activity was successfully demonstrated against Gram-positive bacterial strains for unloaded cryogels and hydrogels, and after loading with diacetyl and essential oil. The developed materials can be regarded as part of active pads for food packaging applications capable to control moisture inside the package and inhibit microbial contamination.

Abstract
With the rapid development of e-commerce and the impact of COVID-19, online takeout has become the first choice of more and more consumers. Previous research has indicated that food packaging is of great significance to marketing performance, yet very little is known about the mechanisms through which food packaging pollution risk affects online takeout consumption. This study proposes an expanded model of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) by incorporating the Concept of Perceived Risk (CPR) to analyze the mechanism of consumers' packaging pollution risk perception (PPRP) on their purchasing intention toward online takeout. Online survey was performed to collect data from 336 valid respondents in China, which was analyzed using structural equation modeling. The research findings verify the effectiveness of the TPB in the context of Chinese online takeout. Notably, the PPRP of online takeout was found to have a significant negative impact on consumers' attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control (PBC). It was also confirmed that consumers' attitudes, subjective norms, and PBC regarding online takeout partially mediate the negative relationship between PPRP and purchase intention. In addition, the findings corroborate the granular nuances among three groups concerning consumers' education level. The results do not only provide suggestions to the online takeout industry but also contribute theoretical value and practical significance for the improvement of sustainable food consumption.

Abstract
Microalgal biofilm cultivation is a promising method for efficient microalgae production. However, expensive, difficult-to-obtain and non-durable carriers hinder its up-scaling. This study adopted both sterilized and unsterilized rice straw (RS) as a carrier for the development of microalgal biofilm, with polymethyl methacrylate as control. The biomass production and chemical composition of Chlorella sorokiniana, as well as the microbial community composition during cultivation were examined. The physicochemical properties of RS before and after utilized as carrier were investigated. The biomass productivity of unsterilized RS biofilm exceeded that of suspended culture by 4.85 g m-2·d-1. The indigenous microorganisms, mainly fungus, could effectively fixed microalgae to the bio-carrier and enhance its biomass production. They could also degrade RS into dissolved matters for microalgal utilization, leading to the physicochemical properties change of RS in the direction which favored its energy conversion. This study showed that RS can be used effectively as a microalgal biofilm carrier, thus presenting a new possibility for the recycling of rice straw.
