Abstract
Desferrioxamine (DFO), a clinically approved iron chelator used for iron overload, is unable to chelate labile plasma iron (LPI) because of its limited cell permeability. Herein, alkyl chain modified imidazolium cations with varied hydrophobicities have been conjugated with DFO. The iron binding abilities and the antioxidant properties of the conjugates were found to be similar to DFO. The degree of cellular internalization was much higher in the octyl-imidazolium-DFO conjugate (IV) compared with DFO, and IV was able to chelate LPI in vitro. This opens up a new avenue in using N-alkyl imidazolium salts as a delivery vector for hydrophilic cell-impermeable drugs.

Abstract
Nature employs a TyrZ-His pair as a redox relay that couples proton transfer to the redox process between P680 and the water oxidizing catalyst in photosystem II. Artificial redox relays composed of different benzimidazole-phenol dyads (benzimidazole models His and phenol models Tyr) with substituents designed to simulate the hydrogen bond network surrounding the TyrZ-His pair have been prepared. When the benzimidazole substituents are strong proton acceptors such as primary or tertiary amines, theory predicts that a concerted two proton transfer process associated with the electrochemical oxidation of the phenol will take place. Also, theory predicts a decrease in the redox potential of the phenol by ∼300 mV and a small kinetic isotope effect (KIE). Indeed, electrochemical, spectroelectrochemical, and KIE experimental data are consistent with these predictions. Notably, these results were obtained by using theory to guide the rational design of artificial systems and have implications for managing proton activity to optimize efficiency at energy conversion sites involving water oxidation and reduction.

Abstract
The optimized molecular structure, vibrational frequencies, corresponding vibrational assignments of 2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4,5-dimethyl-1H-imidazole 3-oxide have been investigated experimentally and theoretically. Gauge-including atomic orbital (1)H NMR chemical shifts calculations were carried out and compared with experimental data. The HOMO and LUMO analysis is used to determine the charge transfer within the molecule. The stability of the molecule arising from hyper-conjugative interaction and charge delocalization has been analyzed using NBO analysis. The calculated geometrical parameters are in agreement with that of similar derivatives. Molecular electrostatic potential was performed by the DFT method. Mulliken's net charges have been calculated and compared with the atomic natural charges. First and second hyperpolarizability are calculated in order to find its role in non-linear optics. Molecular docking is also reported.

Abstract
The asymmetric unit of the polymeric title compound, {(C21H19N2)[HgCl3]} n , comprises one-half of the cationic mol-ecule, the other half being generated by application of twofold rotation symmetry, one Hg and two Cl atoms. The Hg(II) atom, lying on a twofold rotation axis, exhibits a distorted triangular coordination environment and is surrounded by three Cl atoms with Hg-Cl distances in the range 2.359 (2)-2.4754 (13) Å. Two additional longer distances [Hg⋯Cl = 3.104 (14) Å] lead to the formation of polymeric [HgCl1/1Cl4/2](-) chains extending along [001]. The crystal packing can be described by cationic layers alternating parallel to (-110) with the anionic chains located between the layers. The packing is consolidated by π-π stacking inter-actions between the benzene rings of the central benzimidazole entities, with centroid-to-centroid distances of 3.643 (3) Å.

Abstract
In this work, the vibrational spectral analysis was carried out using FT-IR and FT-Raman spectroscopy of 2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-4,5-dimethyl-1H-imidazole 3-oxide. The computations were performed at DFT levels of theory to get the optimized geometry and vibrational frequencies of the normal modes of the title compound using Gaussian09 software. The complete vibrational assignments of frequencies were made on the basis of potential energy distribution. The calculated HOMO and LUMO energies show the chemical activity of the molecule. The stability of the molecule arising from hyper-conjugative interaction and charge delocalization has been analyzed using NBO analysis. The hyperpolarizability values are reported and the first hyperpolarizability of the title compound is 19.61 times that of standard NLO material urea. From the MEP plot, the negative charge covers the nitro group and the positive region is over the hydroxyl group and N-H part of the imidazole ring. The calculated (1)H NMR results are in good agreement with experimental data. Molecular docking study is also reported.

Abstract
A supramolecular gel was constructed by using an imidazolium-based surfactant, N-cetyl-N'-carboxymethyl imidazolium bromide ([N-C16, N'-CO2H-Im]Br), in the DMSO/H2O binary solvent mixtures and investigated as an adsorbent for removing dyes from aqueous solution. The self-assembled gel displays a morphology of microplatelets stacked in bilayer units with interdigitated hydrocarbon tails, and the structure remains unchanged below the sol-gel transition temperature. The gel also exhibits a strong birefringence property and excellent mechanical strength. In particular, the gels show superior performance in removal of anionic dye molecules, for example, removing 80% of eosin Y within 10 min, The constructed gels also present excellent salinity tolerance, even when the concentration of NaCl is 1000 times higher than that of the dye, and can maintain their high efficiency after 25 cycles, indicative of their promise in water treatment.

Abstract
The synthesis and host-guest chemistry of pillararene (PA) derivatives are a hot research topic, and the applications of PAs in relevant research fields are essential to explore. Carboxylate-substituted pillar[6]arene (CPA[6])-valved mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) functionalized with dimethylbenzimidazolium (DMBI) and bipyridinium (BP) stalks were constructed, respectively, for multiresponsive controlled release. CPA[6] encircled the DMBI or BP stalks to develop supramolecular nanovalves for encapsulation of cargo within the MSN pores. The release of cargo was triggered by acidic pH or competitive binding for the dethreading of CPA[6] and the opening of the nanovalves; moreover, coordination chemistry is the first strategy to activate CPA nanovalves by metal chelating with the carboxylate groups of CPA for cargo release. The controlled release of the CPA[6]-valved MSN delivery systems can meet diverse requirements and has promising biological applications in targeted drug therapy.

Abstract
The optimized molecular structure, vibrational frequencies, corresponding vibrational assignments of 2-(phenoxymethyl)benzimidazole have been investigated experimentally and theoretically using Gaussian09 software package. The energy and oscillator strength calculated by time dependent density functional theory results almost compliments with experimental findings. Molecular Electrostatic Potential was performed by the DFT method and the infrared intensities and Raman activities have also been reported. Mulliken's net charges have been calculated and compared with the atomic natural charges. First hyperpolarizability is calculated in order to find its role in non-linear optics.

Abstract
In this research, a series of novel benzimidazolium compounds were designed, synthesized and evaluated for antibacterial and antifungal activities against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus proteus, and two fungi, Candida albicans and Aspergillus fumigatus. All of the synthesized compounds exhibited significant activity against the evaluated bacteria. The structures of these novel compounds were measured by 1H NMR, IR and mass spectrum.
