Abstract
Removing Co(II) from wastewater is urgent due to the threat to the environment and human health. In the work, the nanocomposite of graphene oxide-modified palygorskite (mPal-GO) is synthesized by cross-linking one-dimensional palygorskite (Pal) with two-dimensional material graphene oxide (GO), and used to remove Co(II) from wastewater. Its structure is characterized by Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area measurement. The parameters, such as mass ratio (GO:mPal), temperature, pH, and contact time, are carefully investigated. The results indicate that pseudo-second-order equation and Langmuir isotherm model are the best fitting one in the adsorption process of Co(II) onto mPal-GO. The maximum adsorption capacity achieves 16.9 mg/g at pH = 6.0 and T = 298 K according to the Langmuir model analysis. Furthermore, mPal-GO can be reused more than 5 times with a slight decrease according to the adsorption-desorption cycle experiments. Finally, mPal-GO with the low-cost and easy separation is a promising candidate for removing of Co(II) from wastewater.

Abstract
Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been widely applied for the prevention and cure of various diseases for centuries. Ingredient with pharmacological activity is the key to the application of TCM. Hence, it is of significance to separate and detect active ingredients in TCM effectively. Micro/nanomaterial is the promising candidate for adsorption and sensing due to its unique physical and chemical properties. For years, many efforts have been made to develop functional micro/nanomaterials to realize the effective adsorption or sensing of bioactive compounds in TCM. In this review, we discussed recent progresses in the application of various functional micro/nanomaterials for adsorption or detection (electrochemical detection, fluorescent detection, and colorimetric detection) of active ingredients. Based on the kind of matrix materials, micro/nano-adsorbents or sensors can be classified into following categories: metal-based micro/nanomaterials, porous materials, carbon-based materials, graphene/graphite-liked micro/nanomaterials and hybrid micro/nanomaterials.

Abstract
Glucosinolates (GLs) are of great interest for their potential as antioxidant and anticancer compounds. In this study, macroporous crosslinked copolymer adsorbents of poly (glycidyl methacrylate) (PGMA) and its amine (ethylenediamine, diethylamine, triethylamine)-modified derivatives were prepared and used to purify the GLS glucoerucin in a crude extract obtained from a cruciferous plant. These four adsorbents were evaluated by comparing their adsorption/desorption and decolorization performance for the purification of glucoerucin from crude plant extracts. According to the results, the strongly basic triethylamine modified PGMA (PGMA-III) adsorbent showed the best adsorption and desorption capacity of glucoerucin, and its adsorption data was a good fit to the Freundlich isotherm model and pseudo-second-order kinetics; the PGMA adsorbent gave the optimum decolorization performance. Furthermore, dynamic adsorption/desorption experiments were carried out to optimize the purification process. Two glass columns were serially connected and respectively wet-packed with PGMA and PGMA-III adsorbents so that glucoerucin could be decolorized and isolated from crude extracts in one process. Compared with KCl solution, aqueous ammonia was a preferable desorption solvent for the purification of glucoerucin and overcame the challenges of desalination efficiency, residual methanol and high operation costs. The results showed that after desorption with 10% aqueous ammonia, the purity of isolated glucoerucin was 74.39% with a recovery of 80.63%; after decolorization with PGMA adsorbent, the appearance of glucoerucin was improved and the purity increased by 11.30%. The process of using serially connected glass columns, wet-packed with PGMA and PGMA-III, may provide a simple, low-cost, and efficient method for the purification of GLs from cruciferous plants.

Abstract
Swine manure is considered a reservoir for antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), which may enter the soil and then the food chain to endanger human health. This study investigated the effects of adding 0%, 5%, and 15% (w/w) macroporous adsorption resin (MAR) on ARGs and the bacterial community during composting. The results showed that the addition of MAR reduced the abundances of ARGs (14.14-99.44%) and mobile genetic elements (MGEs) (47.83-99.48%) after swine manure composting. Significant positive correlations were detected between ARGs and MGEs, and thus the variations in MGEs may have led to the changes in ARGs. Redundancy analysis showed that MGEs had stronger effects on ARGs than environmental factors and the bacterial community. Network analysis suggested that ARGs and MGEs co-existed in common host bacteria. In conclusion, the results showed that adding 5% MAR can reduce the risk of ARG transmission.

Abstract
Abstract
Imidazolium bis(2-ethylhexyl)phosphate ionic liquid was anchored on a polystyrene-divinylbenzene (PS-DVB) copolymer and the product (R-Im-DEHP) was studied for the extraction of Am(III) and Eu(III) from dilute nitric acid medium to examine the feasibility using the anchored adsorbent for their mutual separation. The effect of various parameters such as the duration of equilibration, concentration of nitric acid, europium ion, and diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA) in aqueous phase on the distribution coefficient (K
d) of Am(III) and Eu(III) was studied. The distribution coefficient of Am(III) and Eu(III) decreased with increase in the concentration of nitric acid. Rapid extraction of metal ions in the initial stages of equilibration followed by the establishment of equilibrium occurred within 4 h. The data on the rate of uptake of Am(III) and Eu(III) were fitted into pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order rate equation. The extraction isotherm was fitted to Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption models and the apparent europium extraction capacity was determined. The mechanism of extraction was elucidated and the conditions needed for efficient separation of Am(III) from Eu(III) was optimized using DTPA. The study indicated the possibility of using R-Im-DEHP for the separation of Eu(III) from Am(III) with high separation factors.

Abstract
Evaporation kinetics of water confined in hierarchal polymeric porous media is studied by low field nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Systems synthesized with various degrees of cross-linker density render networks with similar pore sizes but different response when soaked with water. Polymeric networks with low percentage of cross-linker can undergo swelling, which affects the porosity as well as the drying kinetics. The drying process is monitored macroscopically by single-sided NMR, with spatial resolution of 100 μm, while microscopic information is obtained by measurements of spin-spin relaxation times (T2). Transition from a funicular to a pendular regime, where hydraulic connectivity is lost and the capillary flow cannot compensate for the surface evaporation, can be observed from inspection of the water content in different sample layers. Relaxation measurements indicate that even when the larger pore structures are depleted of water, capillary flow occurs through smaller voids.
