Interpenetrating network structures assembled by “string of candied haws”-like PPY nanotube-interweaved NiCo-MOF-74 polyhedrons for high-performance supercapacitors

MnO/TiO2/C/N-CNTs derived from Mn-doped Ti MOFs for simultaneous detection of catechol and hydroquinone

Mn-doped Ti-based MOFs (MnTi MOFs) were synthesized by a solvothermal method, and calcined at high temperature after being mixed with pre-prepared PPy nanotubes to give MnO/TiO2/C/N-CNTs composites. The composites were studied by SEM, XRD, XPS and FTIR. Based on these composites, a new electrochemical sensor was prepared, which has good electrocatalytic ability for the redox of catechol (CC) and hydroquinone (HQ), and can detect CC and HQ simultaneously. The results showed that the oxidation peak current of CC and HQ increased linearly in the concentration range of 0.50-120.00 μM. The detection limits were 0.033 μM and 0.019 μM, respectively. The constructed sensor has been successfully used for the simultaneous detection of CC and HQ in lake water and tap water, and has a good recovery rate.

Dual Ni/Co-hemin metal-organic framework-PrGO for high-performance asymmetric hybrid supercapacitor

In this study, we conducted direct synthesis of a dual metal-organic framework (Ni/Co-Hemin MOF) on phosphorous-doped reduced graphene oxide (PrGO) to serve as an active material in high-performance asymmetrical supercapacitors. The nanocomposite was utilized as an active material in supercapacitors, exhibiting a noteworthy specific capacitance of 963 C g^-1 at 1.0 A g^-1, along with a high rate capability of 68.3% upon increasing the current density by 20 times, and superior cycling stability. Our comprehensive characterization and control experiments indicated that the improved performance can be attributed to the combined effect of the dual MOF and the presence of phosphorous, influencing the battery-type supercapacitor behavior of GO. Additionally, we fabricated an asymmetric hybrid supercapacitor (AHSC) using Ni/Co-Hemin/PrGO/Nickel foam (NF) and activated carbon (AC)/NF. This AHSC demonstrated a specific capacitance of 281 C g^-1 at 1.0 A g^-1, an operating voltage of 1.80 V, an impressive energy density of 70.3 Wh kg^-1 at a high power density of 0.9 kW kg^-1. Notably, three AHSC devices connected in series successfully powered a clock for approximately 42 min. These findings highlight the potential application of Hemin-based MOFs in advanced supercapacitor systems.

Metal-Organic Framework Composites and Their Derivatives as Efficient Electrodes for Energy Storage Applications: Recent Progress and Future Perspectives

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been important electrochemical energy storage (EES) materials because of their rich species, large specific surface area, high porosity and rich active sites. Nevertheless, the poor conductivity, low mechanical and electrochemical stability of pristine MOFs have hindered their further applications. Although single component MOF derivatives have higher conductivity, self-aggregation often occurs during preparation. Composite design can overcome the shortcomings of MOFs and derivatives and create synergistic effects, resulting in improved electrochemical properties for EES. In this review, recent applications of MOF composites and derivatives as electrodes in different types of batteries and supercapacitors are critically discussed. The advantages, challenges, and future perspectives of MOF composites and derivatives have been given. This review may guide the development of high-performance MOF composites and derivatives in the field of EES.

Conductive PPy@cellulosic Paper Hybrid Electrodes with a Redox Active Dopant for High Capacitance and Cycling Stability

Polypyrrole@cellulose fibers (PPy@CFs) electrode materials are promising candidates in the energy storage. Various strategies have been pursued to improve their electrochemical performance. However, the poor conductivity, specific capacitance, and cyclic stability still hindered its application. Compared with the previous studies, we selected AQS with electrochemical activity as a dopant to improve these defects. It exhibits a high capacitance of 829.8 F g⁻¹ at a current density of 0.2 A g⁻¹, which is much higher than that of PPy@CFs electrode material (261.9 F g⁻¹). Moreover, the capacitance retention of PPy:AQS/p-PTSA@CFs reaches up to 96.01% after 1000 cycles, indicating superior cyclic stability. Therefore, this work provides an efficient strategy for constructing high-performance electrode materials for energy storage.
