Abstract
Background and aims Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), mainly categorized into Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), is a chronic relapsing gastrointestinal disorder that significantly impairs patients' quality of life. IBD patients often experience comorbidities such as anxiety and depression, and the underlying mechanisms and treatment strategies remain areas of investigation. Methods We conducted a Mendelian randomization(MR) analysis utilizing brain image derived phenotypes (IDP) from the UK Biobank database to investigate the causal relationships between IBD and alterations in brain structural morphology and connectivity of neural tracts. This study aimed to identify biological evidence linking IBD to psychiatric disorders such as anxiety and depression. Results Specifically, the volume of grey matter in the Left Frontal Orbital Cortex exhibited a negative association with the onset of Crohn's disease (odds ratio (OR) [95% confidence interval (CI)]: 0.315[0.180~0.551], adjusted P=0.001), while the volume of the superior frontal cortex in the right hemisphere showed a positive correlation with the development of Ulcerative colitis (OR [95% CI]: 2.285[1.793~2.911], adjusted P<0.001), and the volume of lateral occipital cortex in the left hemisphere demonstrated a positive relationship with Crohn's disease onset (OR [95% CI]: 1.709[1.671~1.747], adjusted P<0.001). In the context of reverse causality, the onset of UC or CD has led to alterations in imaging derived phenotypes associated with five disorders (anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, pain) and three functions (memory, emotion, language). Conclusion Our study has demonstrated a causal relationship between IBD and IDPs. IDPs may serve as potential biomarkers for the progression of IBD and as predictive intermediaries for the development of neurological diseases in IBD patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The most common cause of lower motor neuron facial palsy is Bell's palsy (BP). BP results in partial or complete inability to automatically move the facial muscles on the affected side and, in some cases, to close the eyelids, which can cause permanent eye damage. This study investigated changes in brain function and connectivity abnormalities in patients with BP. METHODS This study included 46 patients with unilateral BP and 34 healthy controls (HCs). Resting-state brain functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) images were acquired, and Toronto Facial Grading System (TFGS) scores were obtained for all participants. The fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (fALFF) was estimated, and the relationship between the TFGS and fALFF was determined using correlation analysis for brain regions with changes in fALFF in those with BP versus HCs. Brain regions associated with TFGS were used as seeds for further functional connectivity (FC) analysis; relationships between FC values of abnormal areas and TFGS scores were also analyzed. RESULTS Activation of the right precuneus, right angular gyrus, left supramarginal gyrus, and left middle occipital gyrus was significantly decreased in the BP group. fALFF was significantly higher in the right thalamus, vermis, and cerebellum of the BP group compared with that in the HC group (P<0.05). The FC between the left middle occipital gyrus and right angular gyrus, left precuneus, and right middle frontal gyrus increased sharply, but decreased in the left angular gyrus, left posterior cingulate gyrus, left middle frontal gyrus, inferior cerebellum, and left middle temporal gyrus. Furthermore, the fALFF in the left middle occipital gyrus was negatively correlated with TFGS score (R=0.144; P=0.008). CONCLUSIONS The pathogenesis of BP is closely related to functional reorganization of the cerebral cortex. Patients with BP have altered fALFF activity in cortical regions associated with facial motion feedback monitoring.

Abstract
Background: Increasing evidence suggests that the temporal and parietal lobes are associated with multisensory integration and vestibular migraine. However, temporal and parietal lobe structural and functional connectivity (FC) changes related to vestibular migraine need to be further investigated. Methods: Twenty-five patients with vestibular migraine (VM) and 27 age- and sex- matched healthy controls participated in this study. Participants completed standardized questionnaires assessing migraine and vertigo-related clinical features. Cerebral cortex characteristics [i.e., thickness (CT), fractal dimension (FD), sulcus depth (SD), and the gyrification index (GI)] were evaluated using an automated Computational Anatomy Toolbox (CAT12). Regions with significant differences were used in a seed-based comparison of resting-state FC conducted with DPABI. The relationship between changes in cortical characteristics or FC and clinical features was also analyzed in the patients with VM. Results: Relative to controls, patients with VM showed significantly thinner CT in the bilateral inferior temporal gyrus, left middle temporal gyrus, and the right superior parietal lobule. A shallower SD was observed in the right superior and inferior parietal lobule. FD and GI did not differ significantly between the two groups. A negative correlation was found between CT in the right inferior temporal gyrus, as well as the left middle temporal gyrus, and the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI) score in VM patients. Furthermore, patients with VM exhibited weaker FC between the left inferior/middle temporal gyrus and the left medial superior frontal gyrus, supplementary motor area. Conclusion: Our data revealed cortical structural and resting-state FC abnormalities associated with multisensory integration, contributing to a lower quality of life. These observations suggest a role for multisensory integration in patients with VM pathophysiology. Future research should focus on using a task-based fMRI to measure multisensory integration.

Abstract
In children with tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), there is a risk of brain injury even if intracardiac deformities are corrected. This population follow-up study aimed to identify the correlation between cerebral morphology changes and cognition in postoperative school-aged children with TOF. Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) and the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children–Chinese revised edition (WISC-CR) were used to assess the difference between children with TOF and healthy children (HCs). Multiple linear regression showed that the TOF group had a lower verbal intelligence quotient (VIQ, 95.000 ± 13.433, p = 0.001) than the HC group and that VIQ had significant positive correlations with the cortical thickness of both the left precuneus (p < 0.05) and the right caudal middle frontal gyrus (p < 0.05) after adjustment for preoperative SpO2, preoperative systolic blood pressure (SBP), preoperative diastolic blood pressure (DBP) and time of aortic override (AO). Our results suggested that brain injury induced by TOF would exert lasting effects on cortical and cognitive development at least to school age. This study provides direct evidence of the relationship between cortical thickness and VIQ and of the need for strengthened verbal training in school-aged TOF patients after corrective surgery.
