Abstract
In order to determine the self-diffusion coefficients D of all the species in the solutions at 298.2 K, 1H and 19F NMR diffusion ordered spectroscopy (DOSY) has been conducted on coumarin 153 (C153) in binary mixed solvents of an imidazolium-based ionic liquid (IL), 1-dodecyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)amide (C12mimTFSA), with three molecular liquids (MLs) of chloroform (CL), benzene (BZ), and propylene carbonate (PC) as a function of ML mole fraction xML. Below xML ≈ 0.8, the D values of each species do not significantly depend on the MLs. However, above this mole fraction, the diffusion of C153 becomes smoother in the order of BZ ≈ CL > PC systems. The interactions among C153, C12mim+, TFSA-, and ML molecules have been investigated using infrared (IR) and 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopic techniques. The relations of the diffusion of the species with the interactions among them have been discussed on the molecular scale. In the IL solution, the C153 carbonyl oxygen atom is hydrogen-bonded with the imidazolium ring C2-H atom of C12mim+. C12mim+ also forms an ion pair with TFSA-. Thus, C153, C12mim+, and TFSA- cooperatively move in the CL and BZ solutions at a lower ML content, xML < ∼0.8. On the other hand, at a higher ML content, xML > ∼0.8, the C153 molecule diffuses with CL and BZ molecules because of the hydrogen bonding between the C153 carbonyl O atom and the CL H atom and the π-π interaction between the C153 and BZ ring planes, respectively. For the PC system, the change in the relative self-diffusion coefficients of each species with increasing xML differs from those for the CL and BZ systems because of both hydrogen bonding donor H and acceptor O atoms of PC for C153, the IL cation and anion, and PC themselves.

Abstract
The binding and detachment of carboxyl-modified gold nanoparticles from liposomes is used for controlled drug delivery. This study reveals that the binding and detachment of nanoparticles from liposomes depends on the degree of hydration of the liposomes. Liposomes with a lower hydration level undergo stronger electrostatic interactions with negatively charged gold nanoparticles, thus leading to a slower detachment of the carboxyl-modified gold nanoparticles under gastric conditions. Therefore, under gastric conditions, gold-nanoparticle-decorated dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) liposomes exhibit an at least ten-times-slower drug release compared to gold-nanoparticle-decorated 1,2-dimyristoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DMPC) liposomes, although both liposomes in the bare state fail to pursue controlled release. Our study also reveals that one can modulate the drug-release rate by simply varying the concentration of nanoparticles. This study highlights a novel strategy for the controlled release of drug molecules from liposomes.

Abstract
Molecular dynamics simulations were performed for aqueous solutions of five ionic liquids (ILs): 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium ([C2mim]) bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl) imide ([NTf2]), 1-n-butyl-3-methylimidazolium ([C4mim]) [NTf2], 1-n-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium ([C6mim]) [NTf2], [C2mim] ethylsulfate ([C2H5SO4]), and [C2mim] chloride (Cl) to determine whether the ions of these ILs are associated at relatively high dilutions and whether the association is governed by hydrophobicity/hydrophilicity of the ILs. The adaptive biasing force technique was applied to calculate the potential of mean force (PMF) for each IL ion pair. For all of the ILs, the PMF is characterized by two distinct contact minima in which the ions have different relative conformations. The hydrophobic ILs bearing the anion [NTf2](-) exist predominantly in the associative state; the strength of the association of these ILs increases with increase in the alkyl chain length. The most hydrophilic IL [C2mim] Cl was determined to be almost fully dissociated at the concentration examined in the study. [C2mim] [C2H5SO4] showed hydration behavior that was intermediate between that exhibited by the ILs in which the anion is substituted with either Cl(-) or [NTf2](-) paired with [C2mim](+). Association constants for these ILs were also computed. Radial distribution functions calculated by constraining the ions at the contact minima showed that hydration of the anion plays the dominant role in determining the microscopic behavior of these ILs in aqueous solutions.

Abstract
The solvent and rotational relaxation of Coumarin 153 (C-153) was investigated by picosecond time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy in a room temperature ionic liquid (RTIL), 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium octyl sulfate ([C4mim][C8SO4]). This is a typical RTIL, which form micellar structure above certain concentration of the RTIL (0.031 M). Dynamic light scattering (DLS) measurements show that the average hydrodynamic diameter ( Dh) of a [C4mim][C8SO4]-water micelle is 2.8 (+/-0.2) nm. Both the solvent and rotational relaxation of C-153 are retarded in this micelle compared to the solvation time of a similar type of dye in neat water. However, the solvent relaxation in this ionic liquid surfactant is different from that of a conventional ionic surfactant. The slow component of the solvation dynamics in C8H17SO4Na or TX-100 micelle is on the nanoseconds time scale, whereas in [C4mim][C8SO4] micelle the same component is on the subnanoseconds time scale. The different molecular motions with different time scale is the main reason behind this difference in the solvation time in micelles composed of RTIL with other conventional micelles.

Abstract
The interaction of water with room temperature ionic liquid (RTIL) [bmim][PF6] has been studied in [bmim][PF6]/TX-100/water ternary microemulsions by solvent and rotational relaxation of coumarin 153 (C-153) and coumarin 490 (C-490). The rotational relaxation and average solvation time of C-153 and C-490 gradually decrease with increase in water content of the microemulsions. The gradual increase in the size of the microemulsion with increase in w0 (w0=[water]/[surfactant]) is evident from dynamic light scattering measurements. Consequently the mobility of the water molecules also increases. In comparison to pure water the retardation of solvation time in the RTIL containing ternary microemulsions is very less. The authors have also reported the solvation time of C-490 in neat [bmim][PF6]. The solvation time of C-490 in neat [bmim][PF6] is bimodal with time constants of 400 ps and 1.10 ns.

Abstract
We have investigated solvent and rotational relaxation of coumarin 153 (C-153) in room-temperature ionic liquid (RTILs) 1-butyl-3-methyl-imidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([bmim][BF(4)]) and the ionic liquid confined in alkyl poly(oxyethylene glycol) ethers containing micelles. We have used octaethylene glycol monotetradecyl ether (C(14)E(8)) and octaethylene glycol monododecyl ether (C(12)E(8)) as surfactants. In the [bmim][BF(4)]-C(14)E(8) micelle, we have observed only a 22% increase in solvation time compared to neat [bmim][BF(4)], whereas in the [bmim][BF(4)]-C(12)E(8) system, we have observed approximately 57% increase in average solvation time due to micelle formation. However, the slowing down in solvation time on going from neat RTIL to RTIL-confined micelles is much smaller compared to that on going from water to water confined micellar aggregates. The 22-57% increase in solvation time is attributed to the slowing down of collective motions of cations and anions in micelles. The rotational relaxation times become faster in both the micelles compare to neat [bmim][BF(4)].

Abstract
Steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence behaviors of two dipolar solutes, coumarin 153 and 4-aminophthalimide, have been studied in an alcohol-functionalized room-temperature ionic liquid, 1-(hydroxyethyl)-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide. The steady-state fluorescence parameters have been exploited for the estimation of the polarity of this ionic liquid and to obtain information on the hydrogen bonding interaction between the ionic liquid and the probe molecules. The time-resolved measurements have been focused on the dynamics of solvation by studying the dynamic Stokes shift in the ps-ns time scale and solute rotation by measuring the time dependence of the fluorescence anisotropy. The time-resolved anisotropy studies reveal a significant slow down of the rotational motion of one of the probe molecules. The time-dependent fluorescence Stokes shift measurements suggest that the time-resolvable part of the dynamics is biphasic in nature, highly dependent on the probe molecule and the ultrafast component is comparatively less than that in other ionic liquids. The influence of the hydrogen bonding interaction between the probe molecules and the ionic liquids on the solute rotation and the various components of the solvation dynamics is carefully analyzed in an attempt to obtain further insight into the mechanism of solvation in these novel media.
