Abstract
Owing to their high reactivity, the meso-positions of corroles and corrins are usually protected by some bulky groups. These groups in addition to the said purpose may also affect the photophysical properties of such systems. However, there is no systematic study in the literature exploring this effect. In this work, we target to answer how the meso-substitution affects the photophysical properties in some heterocorroles and heterocorrins. We considered one of the commonly used substitutions, i.e., pentafluorophenyl (-PFPh), at meso positions of 26 heterocorroles and heterocorrins. We employed the state-of-the-art CC2 method in conjunction with resolution-of-identity approximation to study the charge-transfer and one- and two-photon absorption in these systems. It is further explored using a four-state model that helps in understanding the contribution of various transition dipole moments and their relative orientation. At the end, we also investigated the effect of other substitutions such as -CH3, -CF3, -C2H3, -OMe, -phenyl, and -tolyl on two-photon activity.

Abstract
We present a comprehensive photophysical investigation on a series of three corroles (TTC, P-TTC, Ge-TTC dissolved in toluene), employing femtosecond and nanosecond transient absorption spectroscopy (TAS) measurements. Systematic analyses of the TAS data determined the rates and corresponding time constants of photophysical processes: internal conversion (τIC) in the 898-525 fs range, vibrational relaxation (τ_VR) in the 7.44-13.6 ps range, intersystem crossing (τISC ) in the 033-1.09 ns range and triplet lifetime (τ_triplet) in the 0.8-3.5μs range. The estimated triplet quantum yields (ΦTriplet) were in the 0.42 - 0.61 range. Comparatively, GeTTC displayed faster τIC and higher(ΦTriplet). Additionally, the time-dependent density functional theory (DFT) calculations were performed for the three molecules. The HOMO/LUMO energy levels and the oscillator strengths of various transitions were determined and presented.

Abstract
A set of new octupolar merocyanine chromophores was designed and synthesized. These compounds were prepared from the reaction of 1,3,5-triformyl-2,4,6-trihydroxybenzene with heterocyclic nucleophiles. Octupolar dyes were formed exclusively in their open-dye form. The one- and two-photon-absorption spectra of the dyes consist of two bands: The long-wavelength band in the two-photon absorption spectrum (a few hundreds GM above 1000 nm) matches well with the intense, long-wavelength-absorption band that is located in the visible region in the linear spectrum. Interestingly, an additional, much-more-intense TPA band in the NIR region is observed at higher energy, which corresponds to a weakly allowed one-photon electronic transition. Changing the peripheral heterocyclic moieties allows tuning of the optical properties to approach the cyanine limit (i.e., polymethine state), thus resulting in a red-shift of the low-energy one-photon-absorption band as well as to the rise of an intense two-photon-absorption band in the NIR region. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first synthesis and TPA characterization of octupolar merocyanine chromophores with typical low-bond-length alternation.

Abstract
We present our results from the experimental and modeling studies of picosecond (ps) and femtosecond (fs) nonlinearities of two novel corroles (a) tritolyl corrole (TTC) (b) triphenyl corrole (TPC) using the Z-scan technique. Both open and closed aperture Z-scan curves were recorded with ~2 ps/~40 fs laser pulses at a wavelength of 800 nm and nonlinear optical coefficients were extracted for both studies. Both the molecules possessed negative nonlinear refractive index (n2) as revealed by signature of the closed aperture data in both (ps and fs) time domains. Picosecond nonlinear absorption data of TPC obtained at a concentration of 5 × 10-4 M demonstrated complex behavior with switching from reverse saturable absorption (RSA) within saturable absorption (SA) at lower peak intensities to RSA at higher peak intensities. TTC data recorded at the similar concentration exhibited saturable absorption (SA) type of behavior at lower peak intensities to switching from RSA with in SA at higher peak intensities. At a concentration of 2.5 × 10-4 M, the ps open aperture data at higher peak intensities illustrated effective three-photon absorption (3PA) for both the molecules. We also report the picosecond spectral dependent Z-scan studies performed at 680 nm, 700 nm, and 740 nm. Nonlinear absorption and refraction of both the samples at these three wavelengths were studied in detail. Femtosecond nonlinear absorption data of TPC and TTC demonstrated the behavior of saturable absorption (SA) at a concentration of 1 × 10-3 M. Solvent contribution to the nonlinearity was also identified. We have also evaluated the sign and magnitude of third order nonlinearity. We discuss the nonlinear optical performance of these organic molecules.

Abstract
We recently reported that a targeted, brightly fluorescent gallium corrole (HerGa) is highly effective for breast tumor detection and treatment. Unlike structurally similar porphryins, HerGa exhibits tumor-targeted toxicity without the need for photoexcitation. We have now examined whether photoexcitation further modulates HerGa toxicity, using multimode optical imaging of live cells, including two-photon excited fluorescence, differential interference contrast (DIC), spectral, and lifetime imaging. Using two-photon excited fluorescence imaging, we observed that light at specific wavelengths augments the HerGa-mediated mitochondrial membrane potential disruption of breast cancer cells in situ. In addition, DIC, spectral, and fluorescence lifetime imaging enabled us to both validate cell damage by HerGa photoexcitation and investigate HerGa internalization, thus allowing optimization of light dose and timing. Our demonstration of HerGa phototoxicity opens the way for development of new methods of cancer intervention using tumor-targeted corroles.
