Abstract
Developing self-assembled biomedical materials based on insect proteins is highly desirable due to their advantages of green, rich, and sustainable characters as well as excellent biocompatibility, which has been rarely explored. Herein, salt-induced controllable self-assembly, antibacterial performance, and infectious wound healing performance of an insect cuticle protein (OfCPH-2) originating from the Ostrinia furnacalis larva head capsule are investigated. Interestingly, the addition of salts could trigger the formation of beaded nanofibrils with uniform diameter, whose length highly depends on the salt concentration. Surprisingly, the OfCPH-2 nanofibrils not only could form functional films with broad-spectrum antibacterial abilities but also could promote infectious wound healing. More importantly, a possible wound healing mechanism was proposed, and it is the strong abilities of OfCPH-2 nanofibrils in promoting vascular formation and antibacterial activity that facilitate the process of infectious wound healing. Our exciting findings put forward instructive thoughts for developing innovative bioinspired materials based on insect proteins for wound healing and related biomedical fields.

Abstract
Currently, the effect of heat treatment on the complex coacervation behavior of whey isolate protein (WPI) with gum arabic (GA) is undiscussed. In this work, the complex coacervation behavior of WPI with or without heat treatment and GA in different environments was investigated. The results showed that coacervates were formed at a mass ratio of 2:1 and a pH of 3.5, which was confirmed by the fluorescence spectroscopy results. Heat treatment increased the surface charge of WPI, reduced the saturated adsorption concentration of GA, and enhanced the sensitivity of the complex coacervation reaction to salt ions. Fourier infrared spectroscopy, intermolecular force analysis and molecular docking results confirm that the formation of coacervates is the result of electrostatic interactions. From the scanning electron microscope and differential scanning calorimetry results, it is clear that the whey isolate protein combined with gum arabic forms a gel-like conjugate with higher thermal stability and a dense structure. This study provides more in-depth theoretical guidance for the application of WPI and GA based coacervation and more advanced theoretical data for the study of hWPI.

Abstract
The transfer model suggests that urea unfolds proteins mainly by increasing the solubility of the amide backbone, probably through urea-induced increase in hydrogen bonding. Other studies suggest that urea addition increases the magnitude of solvent-solute van der Waals interactions, which increases the solubility of nonpolar sidechains. More recent analyses hypothesize that urea has a similar effect in increasing the solubility of backbone and sidechain groups. In this work, we compare the effects of urea addition on the solvation of amides and alkyl groups. At first, we study the effects of urea addition upon solvent hydrogen bonding acidity and basicity through the perturbation in the fluorescence spectrum of probes 1-AN and 1-DMAN. Our results demonstrate that the solvent's hydrogen bonding properties are minimally affected by urea addition. Subsequently, we show that urea addition does not perturb the intra-molecular hydrogen bonding in salicylic acid significantly. Finally, we investigate how urea preferentially interacts with amide and alkyl groups moieties in water by comparing the effects of urea addition upon the solubility of acetaminophen and 4-tertbutylphenol. We show that urea affects amide and t-butyl solubility (lowers the transfer free energy of both amide (backbone) and alkyl (sidechain) groups) in a similar fashion. In other words, preferential interaction of urea with both moieties contributes to protein denaturation.

Abstract
Drug molecules' therapeutic efficacy depends on their bioavailability and solubility. But more than 70% of the formulated drug molecules show limited effectiveness due to low water solubility. Thus, the water solubility enhancement technique of drug molecules becomes the need of time. One such way is hydrotropy. The solubilizing agent of a hydrophobic molecule is generally referred to as a hydrotrope, and this phenomenon is termed hydrotropy. This method has high industrial demand, as hydrotropes are noninflammable, readily available, environmentally friendly, quickly recovered, cost-effective, and not involved in solid emulsification. The endless importance of hydrotropes in industry (especially in the pharmaceutical industry) motivated us to prepare a feature article with a clear introduction, detailed mechanistic insights into the hydrotropic solubilization of drug molecules, applications in pharma industries, and some future directions of this technique. Thus, we believe that this feature article will become an adequate manual for the pharmaceutical researchers who want to explore all of the past perspectives of the hydrotropic action of hydrotropes in pharmaceutics.

Abstract
The development of cellulose dissolution/regeneration strategies constitutes an increasingly active research field. These are fundamental aspects of many production processes and applications. A wide variety of suitable solvents for cellulose is already available. Nevertheless, most solvent systems have important limitations, and there is an intense activity in both industrial and academic research aiming to optimize existing solvents and develop new ones. Cellulose solvents are of highly different nature giving great challenges in the understanding of the subtle balance between the different interactions. Here, we briefly review the cellulose dissolution and regeneration mechanisms for some selected solvents. Insolubility is often attributed to strong intermolecular hydrogen bonding between cellulose molecules. However, recent work rather emphasizes the role of cellulose charge and the concomitant ion entropy effects, as well as hydrophobic interactions.

Abstract
Sugars and salts strongly affect the dimerization of caffeine in water. Such a change of dimerization, considered to be crucial for bitter taste suppression, has long been rationalized by the change of "water structure" induced by the additives; "kosmotropic" (water structure enhancing) salts and sugars promote dimerization, whereas "chaotropic" (water structure breaking) salts suppress dimerization. Based on statistical thermodynamics, here we challenge this consensus; we combine the rigorous Kirkwood-Buff theory of solution with the classical isodesmic model of caffeine association. Instead of the change of water structure, we show that the enhancement of caffeine dimerization is due to the exclusion of additives from caffeine, and that the weakening of dimerization is due to the binding of additives on caffeine.

Abstract
Drugs that are poorly soluble in water can be solubilized by the addition of hydrotropes. Albeit known for almost a century, how they work at a molecular basis is still controversial due to the lack of a rigorous theoretical basis. To clear up this situation, a combination of experimental data and Fluctuation Theory of Solutions (FTS) has been employed; information on the interactions between all the molecular species present in the solution has been evaluated directly. FTS has identified two major factors of hydrotrope-induced solubilization: preferential hydrotrope-solute interaction and water activity depression. The former is dominated by hydrotrope-solute association, and the latter is enhanced by ionic dissociation and hindered by the self-aggregation of the hydrotropes. Moreover, in stark contrast to previous hypotheses, neither the change of solute hydration nor the water structure accounts for hydrotropy. Indeed, the rigorous FTS poses serious doubts over the other common hypothesis: self-aggregation of the hydrotrope hinders, rather than promotes, solubilization.
