Synthesis of nanosized ultrathin MoS2 on montmorillonite nanosheets by CVD method

Multifunctional role of tannic acid in improving the mechanical, thermal and antimicrobial properties of natural rubber-molybdenum disulfide nanocomposites

Natural rubber is the only biosynthesized rubber and the most prominent of all the elastomers. Insertion of nanofillers into natural rubber matrix has received much research interest because of the enhanced mechanical, thermal, electrical, antibacterial, etc. properties of the final natural rubber nanocomposite. Molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂), an important member in transition metal dichalcogenides (TMD) is having excellent optical, thermal, mechanical, electronic and antibacterial properties. The inherent properties of this novel filler was exploited through the preparation of natural rubber-MoS₂ nanocomposites via latex dipping method in which tannic acid (TA), naturally occurring macromolecule was used as an exfoliating agent for MoS₂. MoS₂:TA dispersions were prepared in 1:2, 1:4 and 1:6 ratios by mechanical stirring followed by sonication method for analyzing the optimum amount of exfoliating agent for the preparation of NR-MoS₂ nanocomposite. MoS₂:TA in 1:4 ratio was found to be the optimum loading for the NR nanocomposite preparation with improved mechanical, thermal and antibacterial properties. The enhanced properties of the NR composites could be attributed to the synergistic effect of both MoS₂ and TA. The current study shows the role of TA in tuning the properties of NR/MoS₂ nanocomposites that enable their potential utilization in various biomedical applications.

The highly efficient simultaneous removal of Pb2+ and methylene blue induced by the release of endogenous active sites of montmorillonite

The inherent periodic structure of montmorillonite limits the adsorption capacity of its endogenous active units such as Si-O tetrahedron and Al-O octahedron for pollutants. The high-intensity ultrasound method was used to release these active units and the layer-by-layer assembly was adopted to prepare carbon@chitosan@montmorillointe microsphere adsorbent (C@CS@Mt) to give full play to the adsorption capacity of montmorillonite. The montmorillonite nanosheet exhibited good hole-making ability, resulting in high surface area, pore volume and pore diameter of microspheres. Benefitting from the release of active sites in Si-O tetrahedron and Al-O octahedron of montmorillonite nanosheets, the adsorption capacity of C@CS@Mt was significantly improved. The maximum adsorption capacities of Pb²⁺ and methylene blue (MB) reached 884.19 mg·g^-1 and 326.21 mg·g^-1, respectively. The simultaneous adsorption experiments indicated that the occupation of active sites by Pb²⁺ caused the observed decrease of MB adsorption capacity. The theoretical calculations indicated that Pb was preferentially adsorbed by active adsorption units due to strong electron donating ability in comparison to MB. As an active unit, Si-O tetrahedron exhibited stronger adsorption capacity for cationic dyes than Al-O octahedron due to both the large electronegativity and lower adsorption binding energy.

Sulfuration Temperature-Dependent Hydrogen Evolution Performance of CoS2 Nanowires

Densely aligned CoS2 nanowires (NWs) on chemically durable stainless steel fibers felt (SSF) substates were synthesized by thermal sulfuring Co3O4 NWs, which were oxidized from hydrothermal synthesized Co(OH)y(CO3)(1−0.5y)·nH2O NWs precursors. The effect of sulfuration temperature on the composition, morphology, and HER performance of the products was studied in detail. The results show that the high purity together with the enlarged density of active sites given by the twisted morphology of the CoS2 NWs sulfured at 500 °C guarantee its superior hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) performance compared with other samples sulfured at lower temperatures.
