Abstract
INTRODUCTION Urinary incontinence (UI) is common in postpartum women and can lead to a reduced quality of life and withdrawal from fitness and exercise activities. Conservative management interventions such as pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT), use of vaginal cones, and biofeedback have been recommended as first-line treatment. We aimed to explore the effects of conservative interventions on UI rate, severity, and incontinence-specific quality of life in postpartum women with UI. METHODS Nine databases were searched from inception to August 2022: PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, CINAHL, Wanfang, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, China Biological Medicine, and VIP Journal Integration Platform. Randomized controlled trials examining the effects of conservative interventions on postpartum UI were included. RESULTS Initial searches produced 1839 results, of which 17 studies were eligible. All included studies had a low to moderate risk of bias. Supervised PFMT and use of a vaginal cone were more effective than individual PFMT in decreasing rates of UI (odds ratio, 0.29; 95% CI, 0.14-0.61). Individual PFMT combined with acupuncture (mean difference, -1.91; 95% CI, -2.46 to -1.37) or electroacupuncture and supervised PFMT combined with moxibustion were more effective than individual supervised PFMT alone in improving the severity of symptoms. Furthermore, electrical stimulation and biofeedback combined with acupoint stimulation or core training were more effective than electrical stimulation and biofeedback alone. For improving the incontinence-specific quality of life, supervised PFMT was more efficacious than individual PFMT; electrical stimulation and biofeedback plus core training were more beneficial than electrical stimulation and biofeedback alone. DISCUSSION Supervised PFMT and use of a vaginal cone were more beneficial in decreasing rates of UI compared with individual PFMT. Superior effects in decreasing UI severity may be achieved by combining PFMT or electrical simulation and biofeedback with other therapies. Electrical stimulation and biofeedback plus core training, as well as supervised PFMT, are most effective in improving incontinence-specific quality of life. Further research is required to provide more evidence on the efficacy of these therapies.

Abstract
Urinary incontinence (UI) is a common problem worldwide. It has a major impact on physical and social activities and interpersonal relationships. UI is common in women, but is under-reported and under-treated. It affects the quality of life of female patients severely. Acupuncture and moxibustion have been proposed as potentially effective interventions for female UI. Hence, for the benefit of acupuncture practitioners around the world, the World Federation of Acupuncture-moxibustion Societies initiated a project to develop a clinical practice guideline (CPG) for the use of acupuncture and moxibustion to treat female UI. This CPG was developed according to the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) methodology, referring to the principles of the World Health Organization Handbook for Guideline Development. During the development of the CPG, the guideline development group (GDG) played an important role. The clinical questions, recommendations and therapeutic protocols were all formulated by GDG using the modified Delphi method. This CPG contains ten recommendations about the use of acupuncture and moxibustion interventions for ten clinical questions, which include nine conditional recommendations for the intervention and one conditional recommendation for either the intervention or the comparison. This CPG also provides one protocol for conventional filiform needle therapy, two therapy protocols for deep needling stimulation on lumbosacral acupoints, and four moxibustion therapy protocols, based on the protocols presented in randomized controlled trials reviewed by the GDG. Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate the efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in the treatment of female stress urinary incontinence (SUI). METHOD PubMed, Cochrane, Web of Science, Embase, CNKI, Wanfang, and VIP databases were searched for articles published up to September 2022. Variables were analyzed using weighted mean difference (WMD), standardized mean difference (SMD), odds ratios (OR), and 95% confidence interval (CI). RESULTS Eight studies containing 744 patients were included in this study. The results demonstrate that TCM therapy had more advantages in improving the clinical outcome of SUI patients (OR = 2.90, 95%CI:1.92-4.37, P = 0.000), reducing the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Short-Form (ICIQ-SF) score (WMD = -2.41, 95%CI:-2.83- -1.98, P = 0.000), reducing 1-h urinary pad leakage urine volume (WMD = -1.86, 95%CI:-2.23- -1.49, P = 0.000) and increasing Maximum urethral closure pressure (MUCP) (SMD = 0.86, 95%CI: 0.61-1.11, P = 0.000). CONCLUSION TCM therapy is effective in improving urinary incontinence symptoms, urodynamics, and quality of life in patients with SUI. This article provides a reference for the application of TCM therapy in women with urinary incontinence.

Abstract
Background Stress urinary incontinence (SUI), the most prevalent type of urinary incontinence disorder, has aroused increasing attention among societies since it has caused much inconvenience in daily life. In addition to conventional conservative treatments like medication and pelvic floor muscle training, acupuncture is now frequently advised. However, a bibliometric analysis of the trend of SUI therapies is still lacking. Objectives This article was carried out using CiteSpace (6.3.1) software to research the use of acupuncture therapy on SUI worldwide over the past 30 years (since the database's inception). Methods All related articles included were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. CiteSpace (6.3.1) software was used to analyze the number of publications, countries and institutions, authors and cited authors, and burst keywords to assess the hotspots and trends over the previous three decades. And Microsoft Office Excel 2019 was also used for sorting data and generating tables. Results The articles were retrieved on August 31, 2022. A total of 108 records with publication dates ranging from 1992 to 2022 were discovered. The annual number of publications generally increased. In the aspect of publication regions, the USA ranked first in centrality, but China had the largest number of publications. The China Academic of Chinese Medical Sciences, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, and Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine were the top 3 institutions, according to the institution map. Liu Z (Liu ZS) was the most productive author, and Chen Y ranked first in the centrality. The article published by Liu Z (Liu ZS) in 2017 was the most cited reference. "Bladder neck suspension", "electrical stimulation" and "acupuncture" were popular therapies mentioned among the top ten hot topics. The keywords "therapy", "postprostatectomy incontinence", "muscle", "cell therapy", and "symptom" ranked in the top five on citation burst. The four frontier topics were "efficacy", "symptom", "cell therapy", and "medical technology". Conclusion This study illustrated that the application of acupuncture on SUI had an increasing acceptance worldwide. Recent research has concentrated mainly on acupuncture and electroacupuncture, however, there is still not enough literature on these topics. The valuable information was provided for acupuncture researchers to identify prospects including potential collaborators, cooperation institutions, hot themes, and research frontiers.

Abstract
Background Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is a common condition that can severely affect women's life quality. Electroacupuncture (EA) has been proved to be an optional treatment for SUI, but the tolerance of EA becomes a factor affecting efficiency, which should not be ignored and needs to be solved urgently. The purpose of this study is to find out whether the use of alternating acupoints combination can solve this problem or not and provide an optimization of EA treatment for female SUI. Methods This multi-center randomized controlled trial will enroll 360 patients with SUI. They will be randomly assigned to one of the three groups-sacral acupoints group (sacral group), abdominal acupoints group (abdominal group), or alternating acupoints group (alternating group)-at a 1:1:1 ratio. The patients will receive 18 sessions of EA treatment and will be followed up for 48 weeks after the treatment. The primary outcome measure of the study is the change of urine leakage at week 6. The secondary outcomes include the incontinence episode frequency (IEF), International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Short Form (ICIQ-SF), severity of SUI, patient self-evaluation of therapeutic effects, weekly usage of urine pads, ultrasonography of pelvic floor, specialty therapies for SUI, evaluation of discomfort during EA treatment, patient acceptability evaluation and adverse events related to intervention. Discussion This trial is specifically designed to offer an optimized EA treatment for female SUI, aiming to enhance their quality of life.Clinical trial registration: ClinicalTrials.gov, identifier ID:NCT05635669.

How about the RCTs' quality of acupuncture treatment for female urinary incontinence in recent 20 years? A report quality assessment. World J Urol 2023; 41:197-204. Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the quality of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of acupuncture on female urinary incontinence (UI). METHODS We searched for related RCTs of acupuncture on female UI from seven databases (PubMed, Embase, Cochrane library, Web of Science, Medline, ClinicalKey, and Clinical trials). We applied CONSORT (2010 year) and STRICTA criteria to evaluate the relevant factors of included RCTs. Two trained researchers scored independently, and concordance was assessed by Cohen's к-statistic. The median and interquartile range summarized the CONSORT and STRICTA scores of the included studies. In addition, two independent sample t tests were used to assess the differences in the study quality between the 2000-2010 and the 2011-2022 years. RESULTS A total of 25 RCTs were finally included, and the scores were consistent between different assessors. The average CONSORT score was 10.50 (IQR 9.0-15.0) (total score was 25.0). Overall, the studies generally included scientific background (24/25, 96%), inclusion and exclusion criteria (24/25, 96%), outcome indicators (24/25, 96%), randomization methods (21/25, 84%), generalizability (19/25, 76%), and financial support (15/25, 60%). Most lacked sample size calculation (5/25, 20%), type of randomization (5/25, 20%), blinding (6/25, 24%), case screening period and follow-up (4/25, 16%), and study registration (6/25, 24%), etc. The average STRICTA score was 3.380 (IQR 3.02-3.95) (total score was 6.0). There had a lack of education on treatment methods for patients (3/25, 12%) and the qualification of acupuncturists (6/25, 24%). CONCLUSION The overall quality of RCTs on acupuncture treatment of female UI was suboptimal. It is still necessary to improve the research methods, especially the application of random methods, blinding, the interpretation of treatment, and the identification qualification of acupuncturists.

Abstract
Objectives. As a urinary dysfunction disorder, stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is more common in women than in men. Acupuncture, a traditional minimally invasive technique, has potential efficacy in the treatment of SUI. The purpose of this overview is to critically assess the available evidence on acupuncture for the treatment of SUI in women. Methods. Two researchers searched seven databases for systematic reviews (SRs)/meta-analyses (MAs) of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on acupuncture for SUI. Two researchers assessed the included SRs/MAs using the Assessment of Multiple Systematic Reviews 2 (AMSTAR-2), the Risk of Bias in Systematic (ROBIS) scale, the list of Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA), and the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) system. Results. Eight published SRs/MAs were included in our overview. According to the results of the AMSTAR-2 assessment, all SRs/MAs were of very low quality. According to the ROBIS evaluation results, no SR/MA was assessed as low risk of bias. According to the results of the PRISMA checklist assessment, no SR/MA was fully reported on the checklist. According to GRADE, a total of 27 outcomes extracted from the included SRs/MAs were evaluated, and only 1 was rated as high quality. Conclusions. Acupuncture may be an effective and safe complementary treatment for SUI in women. However, further standard and comprehensive SRs/MAs and RCTs are needed to provide an evidence-based medical rationale for this.

Abstract
Background Mixed urinary incontinence increasingly undermines women's quality of life. Previous studies showed some effects of acupuncture for MUI, but no systematic review has been done to evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture for MUI in women. Objective To systematically review the efficacy and safety of acupuncture for women with MUI. Methods Ten databases (i.e., PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, ClinicalTrials.gov, the Cochrane Library, CBM, Scoups, CNKI, VIP and WANFANG DATA) were searched up to July 19th, 2021, using tailored search strategies with keywords not limited to “female,” “mixed urinary incontinence,” “acupuncture,” and “randomized controlled trial,” etc. RCTs and quasi-RCTs were included if investigating effect of any type of acupuncture for female patients with MUI. Data were extracted from eligible studies, and risks of bias were assessed according to the Cochrane Handbook from seven aspects using the RevMan 5.4 software. Results A total of three randomized studies with 591 women were included. The risk of bias among the studies varied, with major concerns on blinding of participants and outcome assessor. Liu's study (497) mainly showed that electroacupuncture's effect on reduction of numbers of incontinence, urgency, nocturia episodes, and amount of urine leakage etc. was not inferior to that of PFMT-Solifenacin group at 12, 24, and 36 weeks. Zhan's study (60) showed that electroacupuncture reduced significantly more amount of urine leakage than Tolterodine at 8 weeks, with no data on incontinence episodes frequency. All 3 studies reported that acupuncture significantly increased the quality of life assessed by ICIQ score. In addition, incidence of acupuncture-related adverse events was rare, while antimuscarinic agents related adverse events were common in two studies. Conclusion Although acupuncture showed some benefit for women with MUI, more evidences were required to draw a solid conclusion of effectiveness and safety of acupuncture for women with MUI.
