Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to address the coping experiences of adult patients with incurable cancer palliative and hospice care. The objective of the study was to provide information that can help improve their support. METHODS The study used a qualitative research design, including a literature review and semi-structured interviews with 56 adult patients. Data were analyzed using inductive content analysis and metasynthesis. RESULTS Key coping factors identified were managing everyday life, maintaining the best possible health, utilizing support options, and accepting the incurable nature of their disease. Emotional coping and inconsistencies in the healthcare support network also played significant roles. CONCLUSIONS The study highlighted the coping experiences, expectations, and problems faced by patients with incurable cancer, aiming to make their needs more visible in public healthcare. The findings can help healthcare sectors design better services and support for these patients and their families.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Telehealth is increasingly used in palliative care and its application is seen as one possible solution to improve access to palliative care services, thereby providing additional support for patients with advanced cancer. By completing a systematic review of the literature this research identifies the barriers and facilitators of telehealth adoption by patients with advanced cancer to determine the type of healthcare services needed to meet their needs. METHODS A systematic review of the literature was conducted on CINAHL, MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO, PsycArticles, the Cochrane Library, Scopus, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, IEEE Xplore as well as grey literature to identify the barriers and facilitators of adopting telehealth by patients with advanced cancer in palliative care. The search was registered on PROSPERO (CRD42023446460) and focused on articles published between March 2021 and August 2023, after the first wave of COVID-19. RESULTS Overall, nine papers were identified and included in the review. Patients with advanced cancer were found to be willing to use telehealth reporting a high satisfaction. Patients with advanced cancer receiving palliative care experienced barriers such as software and hardware failures as well as technical issues. Complicating this even further was a language barrier, as well as aging and medical issues. Older patients found the use of telehealth difficult and reported needing additional support around its use, yet telehealth was broadly found to be accepted. Telehealth facilitated a sense of independence, control, comfort and security to patients. Operating in the background while remaining available it promoted a sense of empowerment for patients. CONCLUSIONS Identification of the barriers and facilitators of telehealth use by patients with advanced cancer in palliative care, contributes to condition specific benchmarks for telehealth use and further informs national treatment guidelines around patients with advanced cancer needs to ensure sustainability and relevance now and in the future.

Abstract
Importance The Expert Center of Palliative Care for head and neck cancer offers structural attention to patients' complex physical and psychosocial care needs. Patients are offered remote care, including digital monitoring using patient-reported outcome measures, to enable them to stay as long as possible in their trusted home environment. There is limited literature on qualitative feedback and patient-reported experiences with palliative head and neck cancer care, especially for remote care. To provide optimal palliative care, more information on this is needed. Objective To provide insight into the experiences of patients with head and neck cancer and their next of kin with a hybrid palliative care pathway. Design, Setting, and Participants A mixed-methods quality improvement study was conducted at a tertiary cancer center. The experiences of patients with head and neck cancer in the palliative phase as of June 2022 and next of kin of patients who had died between June 2021 and March 2022 were evaluated using a patient-reported experience measure that included open-ended questions. Exposures Hybrid palliative care pathway. Main Outcomes and Measures Experiences of patients and next of kin. Results Of 105 included participants, 54 (51.4%) were male, and the mean (SD) age was 67.2 (12.7) years. A total of 56 participants were patients and 49 were next of kin. The face-to-face consultations on the day of the palliative diagnosis were positively experienced by most patients and next of kin. A total of 42 of 102 participants (41%) and 24 of 79 participants (30%) missed at least 1 topic during consultations with their physician and oncology nurse, respectively, such as discussing life expectancy. During the remote follow-up, 71 of 92 (77%) felt safe with this care: they were able to sufficiently clarify their problems, and if necessary, timely action was taken. However, 17 of 48 patients (35%) and 21 of 46 next of kin (46%) considered the provided psychosocial support to be insufficient. Conclusions and Relevance In this quality improvement study, patients and next of kin were satisfied with most aspects of the hybrid palliative care pathway, and remote care seemed to be a promising means of delivery. Key areas needing attention are discussing life expectancy and providing psychosocial support. These insights represent the initial steps toward gaining a deeper understanding of patients' needs during specific moments in a hybrid palliative trajectory. They may support health care professionals in optimizing personalized and value-based palliative care delivery.

Abstract
Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) requires regular follow-up to detect recurrence as early as possible. However, many patients are unable to regularly follow up due to the inconvenience of the conventional approach. Therefore, this study was designed to investigate the impact of the online clinic on follow-up compliance and prognosis in NPC patients. Patients who were first diagnosed with NPC between April 2019 and November 2019 were enrolled. Good follow-up compliance was defined as having at least one follow-up visit every 6 months within 2 years after treatment completion. Sensitivity analyses were performed using a propensity score matching model. A total of 539 (42%) patients used online follow-up while 731 (58%) used traditional follow-up. The median age of patients in the online cohort was lower than that in the traditional cohort (44 vs. 47, p < 0.001). Compared with the traditional cohort, the online cohort had significantly better follow-up compliance (57.3% vs. 17.1%, p < 0.001) and a higher 2-year PFS rate (98.1% vs. 94.4%, p = 0.003). Survival analysis showed that online follow-up was an independent factor for better survival prognosis (HR 0.39, 95%CI 0.20-0.74, p = 0.004). Sensitivity analysis further confirmed these results. Our study found that the online clinic increased follow-up compliance and improved prognosis in NPC patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of social media-based microlearning (SMBM) on enhancing the knowledge, self-care, and self-efficacy behaviors of patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) receiving care at a hospital-based diabetes clinic in Zahedan, Iran. METHODS This intervention study was conducted from September 2021 to the end of 2022, with an intervention group (SMBM) and a control group (conventional-based training) consisting of patients with T2D. A total of 80 eligible patients were selected using a convenience sampling method and randomly assigned to either the intervention group (n = 40) or the control group (n = 40). The knowledge level, self-care, and self-efficacy of the samples were assessed before and two weeks after the educational intervention. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS version 24, and independent and paired T-tests were used for analysis. RESULTS The results of the study revealed that after the intervention, the levels of knowledge, self-care, and self-efficacy in the intervention group were significantly higher than those in the control group (p-value < 0.001). CONCLUSION In conclusion, the SMBM appears to be an effective tool for improving self-efficacy, self-care, and knowledge among patients with type 2 diabetes.

Abstract
PURPOSE To identify and synthesise interactive digital tools used to support the empowerment of people with cancer and the outcomes of these tools. METHODS A systematic literature review was conducted using PubMed, CINAHL, Web of Science, Cochrane, Eric, Scopus, and PsycINFO databases in May 2023. Inclusion criteria were patient empowerment as an outcome supported by interactive digital tools expressed in study goal, methods or results, peer-reviewed studies published since 2010 in cancer care. Narrative synthesis was applied, and the quality of the studies was assessed following Joanna Briggs Institute checklists. RESULTS Out of 1571 records screened, 39 studies published in 2011-2022 with RCT (17), single-arm trial (15), quasi-experimental (1), and qualitative designs (6) were included. A total of 30 interactive digital tools were identified to support empowerment (4) and related aspects, such as self-management (2), coping (4), patient activation (9), and self-efficacy (19). Significant positive effects were found on empowerment (1), self-management (1), coping (1), patient activation (2), and self-efficacy (10). Patient experiences were positive. Interactivity occurred with the tool itself (22), peers (7), or nurses (7), physicians (2), psychologists, (2) or social workers (1). CONCLUSION Interactive digital tools have been developed extensively in recent years, varying in terms of content and methodology, favouring feasibility and pilot designs. In all of the tools, people with cancer are either active or recipients of information. The research evidence indicates positive outcomes for patient empowerment through interactive digital tools. Thus, even though promising, there still is need for further testing of the tools.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Owing to the increasing number of people with palliative care needs and the current shortage of health care professionals (HCPs), providing quality palliative care has become challenging. Telehealth could enable patients to spend as much time as possible at home. However, no previous systematic mixed studies reviews have synthesized evidence on patients' experiences of the advantages and challenges of telehealth in home-based palliative care. OBJECTIVE In this systematic mixed studies review, we aimed to critically appraise and synthesize the findings from studies that investigated patients' use of telehealth in home-based palliative care, focusing on the advantages and challenges experienced by patients. METHODS This is a systematic mixed studies review with a convergent design. The review is reported according to the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) statement. A systematic search was performed in the following databases: Allied and Complementary Medicine Database, CINAHL, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Embase, Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature, MEDLINE, PsycInfo, and Web of Science. The inclusion criteria were as follows: studies using quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods; studies that investigated the experience of using telehealth with follow-up from HCPs of home-based patients aged ≥18; studies published between January 2010 and June 2022; and studies published in Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, English, Portuguese, or Spanish in peer-reviewed journals. Five pairs of authors independently assessed eligibility of the studies, appraised methodological quality, and extracted data. The data were synthesized using thematic synthesis. RESULTS This systematic mixed studies review included 41 reports from 40 studies. The following 4 analytical themes were synthesized: potential for a support system and self-governance at home; visibility supports interpersonal relationships and a joint understanding of care needs; optimized information flow facilitates tailoring of remote caring practices; and technology, relationships, and complexity as perpetual obstacles in telehealth. CONCLUSIONS The advantages of telehealth were that patients experience a potential support system that could enable them to remain at home, and the visual features of telehealth enable them to build interpersonal relationships with HCPs over time. Self-reporting provides HCPs with information about symptoms and circumstances that facilitates tailoring care to specific patients. Challenges with the use of telehealth were related to barriers to technology use and inflexible reporting of complex and fluctuating symptoms and circumstances using electronic questionnaires. Few studies have included the self-reporting of existential or spiritual concerns, emotions, and well-being. Some patients perceived telehealth as intrusive and a threat to their privacy at home. To optimize the advantages and minimize the challenges with the use of telehealth in home-based palliative care, future research should include users in the design and development process.

Abstract
Understanding human perception and requirements on food for cancer prevention and condition management is important so that food applications can be catered to cancer patients. In this paper, web scraping was conducted to understand the public’s perception, attitude, and requirements related to a plant-based diet as a recommended diet for cancer prevention and condition management. Text and sentiment analyses were carried out on results gathered from 82 social sites to determine whether noncancer and cancer patients use plant-based diets, how they have been consumed, their benefits in the prevention and condition management of cancers, the existing myths/fake news about cancer, and what do cancer patients need in a food app. The results of the text analysis highlighted gaps in existing apps, including a lack of credibility as there were a lot of fake news and myths about cancer and endorsement by professionals. Future food apps should provide personalized diets to include both plant-based diets as well as meat, symptom management, good user experience, credibility, and emotional and mental health support.
