Abstract
A simple and highly sensitive isatin-based colorimetric sensor ISAT 3(a-d) was synthesized through a single-step reaction. The as-prepared receptor ISAT 3b with carbonate ions (CO32- ions) shows a significant red shift in the UV-visible absorption spectra and a visible color change from pale yellow to pink. Also, the receptor ISAT 3b shows unique solvatochromic behavior with CO32- ions in different aprotic solvents and solvent compositions. Moreover, the receptor's pink coloration (absorption maxima at 544 nm) with CO32- ions could be reversible by adding HSO4- ions (attain initial pale-yellow color, absorption maxima at 425 nm), which can be repeatable. The observed color changes with spectral shift and reversibility of the receptor with CO32- ions and HSO4- ions provide "ON-OFF" switching for applying molecular logic gates. Receptors exhibited properties, such as reversibility and repeatability, benefit the design of a molecular-scale sequential memory unit with a display of "Writing-Reading-Erasing-Reading". The real sample analysis was also carried out to prove the practical applicability of receptor (ISAT 3b) for detecting CO32- ions.

Abstract
We have constructed a novel fluorescein-based fluorescent chemosensor, FL-In, functionalised with an indole moiety and capable of sensing by both the optical "turn-on" and electrochemical detection of carbonate ions (CO32-) in aqueous media. The probe exhibits excellent selectivity and a low detection limit (0.27 µM) regarding carbonate ions by a possible coordination and hydrolysis reaction mechanism. The developed probe successfully detected CO32- ions in different samples of water. Also, in a simple filter paper experiment, we documented its ability to allow the monitoring of CO32- with the naked eye.

Abstract
Our study involved a simple, sensitive voltammetric method of determining either carbonate or bicarbonate ions independently with azomethine-H and a disposable pencil graphite electrode. The reduction of azomethine-H-carbonate complexes at approximately -930 mV formed in acetic acid-acetate buffer solution (pH: 4.25) was evaluated as a response. Among the results, the limits of detection and analytical ranges for carbonate ions were 3.7 μg L-1 and 9.9-700.0 μg L-1 and for bicarbonate ions were 9.0 μg L-1 and 35.0-700.0 μg L-1, and the relative standard deviations for carbonate and bicarbonate ions ranged from 1.33% and 6.93% at different concentrations. After the proposed method was applied to water, sparkling water, seawater and baking powder samples, the results were statistically evaluated and compared with those obtained from the potentiometric auto-titration system. Last, the complex stoichiometry of both carbonate and bicarbonate ions was comprehensively investigated with fluorescence and 1H-NMR spectroscopy.

Abstract
The new benzimidazole based receptor Lansoprazole has been used to detect carbonate anion by naked-eye and Uv-Vis spectroscopy. This receptor revealed visual changes withCO 3 2 - anion in ethanol. No detectable color changes were observed upon the addition of any other tested anions. The lansoprazole chemosensor selectively recognizesCO 3 2 - ion over the other interference anions in the ethanol, followed by deprotonation and reflected 1:1 complex formation between the receptor and the carbonate ion. Lansoprazole exhibits splendid selectivity toward carbonate ion via a visible color change from colorless to yellow with a detection limit of 57 μM. The binding mode ofCO 3 2 - to receptor L is supported by Density Functional Theory calculation. Moreover, this receptor shows a practical visible colorimetric test strip for the detection of carbonate ions. The transition states calculation demonstrates the occurrence of reaction from L to L-CO 3 2 - after overcoming an energy barrier of 10.1 kcal/mol, and there is considerable interaction energy between L andCO 3 2 - (94.9 kJ/mol), both of which confirmed that receptor L has high sensitivity and selectivity to the carbonate ion. The theoretical studies were performed to acquire an electronic description of the complexation mechanism byCO 3 2 - as well as to study bonding and structure in the complex. The optimized structures and binding mechanisms were supported with a high correlation and agreement by spectroscopy and DFT calculations.

Abstract
In this study, we have designed and synthesized two new organic receptors R1 and R2 based on malonohydrazide for the recognition of biologically important anions. The receptor R1 capable of colorimetric discrimination of maleate over fumarate ion, exhibit significant color change from pale yellow to wine red due to intermolecular hydrogen bond between the R1 and maleate ion, supported by 1HNMR titration, where the peak at δ12.0 ppm attributed to the NH proton experiences a downfield shift upon binding with maleate ion. Receptor R1, equipped with two electron-withdrawing NO2 moieties as the chromogenic signaling unit enhance the hydrogen bonding tendency and acidity, and thus when comparing with receptor R2, R1 displayed substantial higher redshift (∆λmax) of 148 nm, 143 nm, and 140 nm towards F-, AcO-, and maleate anion in the DMSO. In addition, the synthesized receptors R1 and R2 are able to detect F-, AcO-, and AsO2- ions as their sodium salts in an aqueous solution with visual color change. Receptor R1 exhibit electrochemical response towards F- and AcO- ions. The receptors R1 and R2 are successfully applied for quantitative detection of F- ion in the toothpaste solution in an aqueous medium. Additionally, R1 and R2 exhibit fluorescence enhancement towards F- and AcO- ions in the DMSO. As well, R1 and R2 demonstrate to be potentially useful colorimetric chemosensor for sensing maleate ion using the test strip. The theoretical calculation based on TD-DFT corroborates well with the experimental results of the receptors R1 and R2 with fluoride, acetate and maleate.

Abstract
Bis-benzimidazolium salt (S)-2,2'-bis[2″-(N-Et-benzimidazoliumyl)ethoxy]-1,1'-binaphthyl hexafluorophosphate [(S)-L1H2]·(PF6)2 and bis-imidazolium salts (S)-2,2'-bis[2″-(N-R-imidazoliumyl)ethoxy]-1,1'-binaphthyl hexafluorophosphate [(S)-L2H2]·(PF6)2 and [(S)-L3H2]·(PF6)2 (R = ethyl or benzyl), as well as their five N-heterocyclic carbene Hg(II) and Ag(I) complexes such as [(S)-L1Hg(HgBr4)] (1), [(S)-L2Hg(HgBr4)] (2), [(S)-L2Hg(HgI4)] (3), {[(S)-L2Ag](PF6)}n (4) and [(S)-L3Ag](PF6) (5) have been prepared and characterized. Each of complexes 1-3 consists of two rings (one 6-membered ring and one 11-membered ring), in which the oxygen atom in the ligand participates in coordination with Hg(II) ion. In complex 4, 1D helical polymeric chain is formed via biscarbene ligand (S)-L2 and Ag(I) ion. A 15-membered macrometallocycle is constructed through a ligand (S)-L3 and a Ag(I) ion in complex 5. Additionally, the selective recognition of H2PO4- using complex 5 as a receptor was investigated on the basis of fluorescence and UV/vis spectroscopic titrations. The results indicate that complex 5 can distinguish effectively H2PO4- from other anions.

Abstract
An overview of potentiometric sensors that are capable of detecting toxic heavy metal ions in environmental samples is presented and discussed. Notwithstanding the tremendous work performed so far, it is obvious that still several limitations do exist in terms of selectivity, limits of detection, dynamic ranges, applicability to specific problems, and reversibility. A survey on important advances in potentiometric sensors with regard to high selectivity, lower detection limit, fast response time, and on-line environmental analysis is presented in this review article. Abstract
Novel carbonate-selective potentiometric sensors based on 5,10,15-tris(4-aminophenyl)-20-phenyl porphyrinates of Cu(II) and Co(II) have been developed. Ionophore functioning mechanism and possible source of carbonate sensitivity have been evolved. Potentiometric properties of Co(II)- and Cu(II)TATPP-based sensors were compared with common carbonate-ISEs containing trifluoroacetophenone derivatives. The analytical utility of newly developed sensors has been demonstrated by measuring the bicarbonate content in human blood plasma.
