Abstract
SARS-CoV-2 emerged in late 2019 and quickly spread globally, resulting in significant morbidity, mortality, and socio-economic disruptions. As of now, collaborative global efforts in vaccination and the advent of novel diagnostic tools have considerably curbed the spread and impact of the virus in many regions. Despite this progress, the demand remains for low-cost, accurate, rapid and scalable diagnostic tools to reduce the influence of SARS-CoV-2. Herein, the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), a receptor for SARS-CoV-2, was immobilized on two types of electrodes, a screen-printed gold electrode (SPGE) and a screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE), to develop electrochemical biosensors for detecting SARS-CoV-2 with high sensitivity and selectivity. This was achieved by using 1H, 1H, 2H, 2H-perfluorodecanethiol (PFDT) and aryl diazonium salt serving as linkers for SPGEs and SPCEs, respectively. Once SARS-CoV-2 was anchored onto the ACE2, the interaction of the virus with the redox probe was analyzed using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and cyclic voltammetry (CV). Aryl diazonium salt was observed as a superior linker compared to PFDT due to its consistent performance in the modification of the SPCEs and effective ACE2 enzyme immobilization. A distinct pair of redox peaks in the cyclic voltammogram of the biosensor modified with aryl diazonium salt highlighted the redox reaction between the functional groups of SARS-CoV-2 and the redox probe. The sensor presented a linear relationship between the redox response and the logarithm of SARS-CoV-2 concentration, with a detection limit of 1.02 × 106 TCID50/mL (50% tissue culture infectious dose). Furthermore, the biosensor showed remarkable selectivity towards SARS-CoV-2 over H1N1virus.

Abstract
The estrogenic effect of plant growth regulators has been received little attention, which leads to the lack of relevant toxicity data. In this study, the estrogenic effect induced by gibberellin with ERα-dependent manner was found by E-screen and western blot methods, and the electrochemical signals of MCF-7 cells regulated by gibberellin and fulvestrant were investigated. The results showed that the electrochemical signals of MCF-7 cells were increased by gibberellin, while reduced by fulvestrant significantly, and displayed an extremely sensitive response to the effects of estrogenic effect induced by ERα agonist and antagonist. Western blot results showed that the expressions of phosphoribosyl pyrophosphate amidotransferase and hypoxanthine nucleotide dehydrogenase in de novo purine synthesis and adenine deaminase in catabolism were more effective regulated by gibberellin and fulvestrant, resulting in significant changes of the levels of guanine, hypoxanthine and xanthine in cells, and then electrochemical signals. The results provide a theoretical basis for the establishment of new electrochemical detection method of the estrogenic effect of plant regulators.

Abstract
The detection of hydroxyl radicals (•OH) in live cells is significant to study its physiological and pathological roles, while it is full of challenge due to the extremely low concentration and short lifetime of •OH. Herein, we have developed a novel electrochemical sensor based on 6-(Ferrocenyl) hexanethiol (6-FcHT) self-assembled nanoporous gold layer (NPGL) modified GE (6-FcHT/NPGL/GE), which can detect the release of •OH from living cells with high sensitivity and selectivity. The superior sensitivity can stem from the unique porous architecture of NPGL, which enlarged electrode surface area and expedited electron transportation during electrochemical reactions. Additionally, NPGL provides more active binding sites for the assembly of capture agent (6-FcHT) of •OH, thus ensuring high selectivity. For comparison, 6-FcHT/GE was applied to detect •OH, and the obtained sensitivity was 0.0305 mA nM-1 and detection limit was 0.133 nM in the linear range of 0.4 nM-70 nM. After modification of NPGL, the sensitivity of 6-FcHT/NPGL/GE to the •OH response was increased to 0.1364 mA nM-1, detection limit was reduced to 0.316 pM and the linear range was extended from 1 pM to 100 nM. It is worth mentioning that a plenty of extra merits has also been validated like reproducibility, repeatability and stability, enabling to direct electrochemical detection of •OH in HepG2 cells.

Abstract
We report a simple, selective and cost effective method for the qualitative and quantitative determination of thymine in a DNA standard and urine samples using gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) as a label-free colorimetric biochemical sensor. The mechanism for the detection of thymine is demonstrated via the color change of the AuNPs from pink to blue, followed by the shift of the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) absorption band to a higher wavelength with the introduction of an analyte. The selective detection of thymine was experimentally verified by performing a control experiment with nucleobases, other biomolecules, metal ions and anions. In addition, the computation density functional theory (DFT) and time dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) using the Gaussian (C.01) program highlighted that the electrostatic potential behavior of the thymine molecule facilitated a non-covalent interaction toward gold for the selective detection of analytes, and the computation was also used to calculate a UV-Vis absorption band as well. The calculated absorption band of the AuNPs with thymine, obtained using TD-DFT, was found to be very close to the experimental data. The omnicapped truncated tetrahedral (ν3-tetrahedral) Au20 cluster structure was considered as the model for the AuNP optimization. The linear range obtained for the quantitative determination of thymine was found to be 10–1200 ng mL−1 with a limit of detection of 3 ng mL−1. The advantages of using the AuNPs as a biochemical sensor are that they provide a facile and low cost method and are selective for the qualitative and quantitative determination of thymine in a DNA standard and in urine samples in comparison to chromatographic and electrochemical methods. We report a simple, selective and cost effective method for the qualitative and quantitative determination of thymine in a DNA standard and in urine samples using gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) as a label-free colorimetric biochemical sensor.![]()

Abstract
In this study, we have demonstrated the fabrication of novel materials called boron-doped carbon nanowalls (B:CNWs), which are characterized by remarkable electrochemical properties such as high standard rate constant (k°), low peak-to-peak separation value (ΔE) for the oxidation and reduction processes of the [Fe(CN)6]3-/4- redox system, and low surface resistivity. The B:CNW samples were deposited by the microwave plasma-assisted chemical vapor deposition (CVD) using a gas mixture of H2/CH4/B2H6 and N2. Growth results in sharp-edged, flat, and long CNWs rich in sp2 as well as sp3 hybridized phases. The achieved high values of k° (1.1 × 10-2 cm s-1) and ΔE (85 mV) are much lower compared to those of the glassy carbon or undoped CNWs. The enhanced electrochemical performance of the B:CNW electrode facilitates the simultaneous detection of DNA purine bases: adenine and guanine. Both separated oxidation peaks for the independent determination of guanine and adenine were observed by means of cyclic voltammetry or differential pulse voltammetry. It is worth noting that the determined sensitivities and the current densities were about 1 order of magnitude higher than those registered by other electrodes.

Abstract
Interest in electrochemical analysis of purine nucleobases and few other important purine derivatives has been growing rapidly. Over the period of the past decade, the design of electrochemical biosensors has been focused on achieving high sensitivity and efficiency. The range of existing electrochemical methods with carbon electrode displays the highest rate in the development of biosensors. Moreover, modification of electrode surfaces based on nanomaterials is frequently used due to their extraordinary conductivity and surface to volume ratio. Different strategies for modifying electrode surfaces facilitate electron transport between the electrode surface and biomolecules, including DNA, oligonucleotides and their components. This review aims to summarize recent developments in the electrochemical analysis of purine derivatives, as well as discuss different applications.
