Abstract
Herein, we present a simple and mild method to in situ prepare CuO nanostructures for non-enzymatic glucose sensing. A Cu-metal organic framework (Cu-MOF) precursor was first directly grown on a pencil lead electrode with 3D graphene-like surfaces (EPLE) and then in situ transformed into CuO nanorods. The CuO nanorod-modified EPLE (CuO/EPLE) shows high sensitivity (1138.32 μA mM-1 cm-2), fast response time (1.5 s) and low detection limit (0.11 μM) for glucose oxidation. It has been found that NaOH promoted the generation of ˙OH groups and Cu(III) on the CuO surface, which then facilitated the electrochemical oxidation of glucose. Signals characteristic of hydroxyl and carbon-centered radical adducts were detected by EPR. Furthermore, the CuO/EPLE sensor also shows good accuracy in glucose determination in human serum samples.

Abstract
An electrochemical sensor using silver nanowires (AgNWs)-doped with a zeolite-like metal-organic framework (ZIF-67) was developed for highly sensitive and stable determination of folic acid (FA). The ZIF-67/AgNWs nanocomposite was prepared by a one-step reaction via a template method and drop-coated onto the surface of a screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) to form a ZIF-67/AgNWs@SPCE electrochemical sensing platform. The electrochemical square wave voltammetry (SWV) curve for this sensing platform was measured in an electrolyte solution containing FA under the optimum experimental conditions. The redox peak current of FA (IFA) increased with increases in the FA concentration (CFA). There was a linear relationship between IFA and CFA in the range of 0.1 μM to 10 μM, and the determination limit was 30 nM. The ZIF-67/AgNWs@SPCE was used as an electrochemical sensor for FA which maintained a good stability over 7 days and showed good determination performance in real samples with a high recovery rate (100.9-102.1%, n = 6).

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted increasing attention as a promising electrode material for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Comprehending catalytic mechanisms in the OER process is of key relevance for the design of efficient catalysts. In this study, two types of Co based MOF with different organic ligands (ZIF-67 and CoBDC; BDC=1,4-benzenedicarboxylate) are synthesized as OER electrocatalysts and their electrochemical behavior is studied in alkaline solution. Physical characterization indicates that ZIF-67, with tetrahedral Co sites, transforms into α-Co(OH)2 on electrochemical activation, which provides continuous active sites in the following oxidation, whereas CoBDC, with octahedral sites, evolves into β-Co(OH)2 through hydrolysis, which is inert for the OER. Electrochemical characterization reveals that Co sites coordinated by nitrogen from imidazole ligands (Co-N coordination) are more inclined to electrochemical activation than Co-O sites. The successive exposure and accumulation of real active sites is responsible for the gradual increase in activity of ZIF-67 in OER. This work not only indicates that CoMOFs are promising OER electrocatalysts but also provides a reference system to understand how metal coordination in MOFs affects the OER process.

Abstract
Spectroelectrochemistry (SEC) encompasses a broad suite of electroanalytical techniques where electrochemistry is coupled with various spectroscopic methods. This powerful and versatile array of methods is characterised as in situ, where a fundamental property is measured in real time as the redox state is varied through an applied voltage. SEC has a long and rich history and has proved highly valuable for discerning mechanistic aspects of redox reactions that underpin the function of biological, chemical, and physical systems in the solid and solution states, as well as in thin films and even in single molecules. This perspective article highlights the state of the art in solid-state SEC (ultraviolet–visible–near-infrared, infrared, Raman, photoluminescence, electron paramagnetic resonance, and X-ray absorption spectroscopy) relevant to interrogating solid state materials, particularly those in the burgeoning field of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). Emphasis is on developments in the field over the past 10 years and prospects for application of SEC techniques to probing fundamental aspects of MOFs and MOF-derived materials, along with their emerging applications in next-generation technologies for energy storage and transformation. Along with informing the already expert practitioner of SEC, this article provides some guidance for researchers interested in entering the field.

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks/zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (MOFs/ZIFs) and their post-synthesis modified nanostructures, such as oxides, hydroxides, and carbons have generated significant interest for electrocatalytic reactions. In this work, a high and durable oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performance directly from bimetallic Zn100-x Cox -ZIF samples is reported, without carrying out high-temperature calcination and/or carbonization. ZIFs can be reproducibly and readily synthesized in large scale at ambient conditions. The bimetallic ZIFs show a systematic and gradually improved OER activity with increasing cobalt concentration. A further increase in OER activity is evidenced in ZIF-67 polyhedrons with controlled particle size of <200 nm among samples of different sizes between 50 nm and 2 μm. Building on this, a significantly enhanced, >50 %, OER activity is obtained with ZIF-67/carbon black, which shows a low overpotential of approximately 320 mV in 1.0 m KOH electrolyte. Such activity is comparable to or better than numerous MOF/ZIF-derived electrocatalysts. The optimized ZIF-67 sample also exhibits increased activity and durability over 24 h, which is attributed to an in situ developed active cobalt oxide/oxyhydroxide related nanophase.

Abstract
Herein, we report the preparation of Mn-doped Ni-based metal-organic frameworks (Mn-MOF) with 3D hierarchical flower-like superstructures through solvothermal synthesis. The Mn-MOF was assembled with 2D black phosphorous nanosheets (BPNSs) to achieve novel 2D/3D BPNSs/Mn-MOF nanocomposites, followed by the direct coupling of methylene blue (MB)-labeled DNA aptamer on the interface of the nanocomposites-modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The aptamer/BPNSs/Mn-MOF/GCE platform was utilized for the capture and efficient detection of stress-induced phosphoprotein 1 (STIP1). Experimental results confirmed that Mn-doping-induced the hierarchical petal growth of the flower-like 3D MOF and its assembly with BPNSs. GCE surface modifications with various components were studied by measuring electrochemical curves. The morphologies, microstructures and spectra of products were characterized. The optimal conditions used for electrochemical measurements were assessed. A smart aptasensor was explored by the aptamer/BPNSs/Mn-MOF/GCE that had multiple attractive merits, including synergistic effects of components, porous superstructures of hierarchical flower-like 3D Mn-MOF and specific aptamer-target recognition. The merits endowed this aptasensor with selective and sensitive signal responses to STIP1 over interferences. This aptasensor enabled the efficient detection of STIP1 in a broad range of 2 × 10-3-1 × 104 ng mL-1, accompanied by a low limit of detection of 1 pg mL-1. This aptasensor realized the successful determination of STIP1 in practical samples, exhibiting high reliability and practicability.

Abstract
As the emerging and noninvasive biomarkers, exosomes play an important role in cancer screening, cancer-related immune response, and the physiological process. The sensitive, specific, and efficient detection of cancer cell-derived exosomes is of significance for early cancer diagnosis of patients. This work developed a novel dual-signal and intrinsic self-calibration aptasensor of exosomes based on a functional hybrid thin-film platform. This platform was constructed via facile assembly of black phosphorus nanosheets (BPNSs) and ferrocene (Fc)-doped metal-organic frameworks (ZIF-67) on indium tin oxide (ITO) slice, followed by combining methylene blue (MB)-labeled single- strand DNA aptamer on ITO slice. The resultant aptamer-BPNSs/Fc/ZIF-67/ITO platform had dual redox-signal responses of MB (labeled on aptamer) and Fc (doped into ZIF-67). In the presence of specific cancer cell-derived exosomes, the redox current of MB regularly reduced and that of Fc (as reference) hardly changed. An intrinsic self-calibration aptasensor was achieved and enabled sensitive detection of exosomes, showing a limit of detection down to 100 particles mL-1. The aptasensor with a capability of precise protein capture can efficiently determine specific cancer cell-derived exosomes in practical human serum and plasma samples from healthy individuals and breast cancer patients. In light of excellent performances, this aptasensor can be expanded to multiple biomarkers from cell line exosomes and is beneficial for exploring advanced techniques for high-performance detection of exosomes derived from different types of cancer cells. This work promotes the development of current techniques for early cancer screening and clinical diagnosis.

Abstract
Electroactive and conducting framework materials, encompassing coordination polymers and metal-organic frameworks, have captured the imagination of the scientific community owing to their highly designable nanoporous structures and their potential applications in electrochromic devices, electrocatalysts, porous conductors, batteries and solar energy harvesting systems, among many others. While they are now considered integral members of the broader field of inorganic materials, it is timely to reflect upon their strengths and challenges compared with 'traditional' solid-state materials such as minerals, pigments and zeolites. Indeed, the latter have been known since ancient times and have been prized for centuries in fields as diverse as art, archaeology and industrial catalysis. This opinion piece considers a brief historical perspective of traditional electroactive and conducting inorganic materials, with a view towards very recent experimental progress and new directions for future progress in the burgeoning area of coordination polymers and metal-organic frameworks. Overall, this article bears testament to the rich history of electroactive solids and looks at the challenges inspiring a new generation of scientists. Abstract
Concerns about environment pollution by antibiotics raised notable attention. In this context, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) can produce an excellent platform for toxicant removal from water environments. In the current investigation, eight MOFs (ZIF-67-NO3, ZIF-67-Cl, ZIF-67-SO4, ZIF-67-OAC, ZIF-8-Octahedron, ZIF-8-Leaf, ZIF-8-Cuboid, and ZIF-8-Cube) with different chemical and textural compositions were synthesized, and furthermore, the adsorption of Tetracycline (TC) by them was evaluated. Also, the key experimental conditions were modeled using response surface methodology (RSM). Among the prepared MOFs, the highest tendency for TC removal was nominated to ZIF-67- Acetate (ZIF-67-OAC). By model optimization approach, the optimum system conditions as contact time, adsorbent dosage, pH and adsorbed antibiotic concentration were reported as 26.8 min, 0.63 g/L, 5.9, and 74.6 mg/L, respectively. The proposed equilibrium model showed that the TC accumulated on ZIF-67-OAC surface is reversible in multilayer with the highest monolayer capacity of 446.9 mg/g. Furthermore, based on separation factor (KL), TC adsorption is more favorable at a higher amount of MOFs added. Moreover, according to the fitted kinetic model, the process was controlled by chemisorption. ZIF-67-OAC shows excellent structural stability during mechanical agitation in an aqueous environment, and the TC removal capacities of regenerated adsorbent did not change considerably at the end of cycle 4 compared to the first cycle. Considering the findings among the examined MOFs, the ZIF-67-OAC can be approached as a promising adsorbent for the removal of antibiotics from aqueous environments.

Abstract
A highly robust metal-organic framework (MOF) constructed from Zr6 oxo clusters and Fe(III) porphyrin linkers, PCN-223-Fe was investigated as a heterogeneous catalyst for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Films of the framework were grown on a conductive FTO substrate and showed a high catalytic current upon application of cathodic potentials and achieved high H2O/H2O2 selectivity. In addition, the effect of the proton source on the catalytic performance was also investigated.

Abstract
Two zeolitic imidazolate frameworks, ZIF-67 and ZIF-8, were interrogated for their redox properties using Fourier transformed alternating current voltammetry, which revealed that the 2-methylimidazolate ligand is responsible for multiple redox transformations. Further insight was gained by employing discrete tetrahedral complexes, [M(DMIM)4]2+ (DMIM = 1,2-dimethylimidazole, M = CoII or ZnII) which have similar structural motifs to ZIFs. In this work we demonstrate a multidirectional approach that enables the complex electrochemical behavior of ZIFs to be unraveled.
