Abstract
In this article, a series of novel conducting copolymers P(FuPy-co-EDOT) are prepared via cyclic voltammetry electropolymerization method by using N-furfuryl pyrrole (FuPy) and 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) as comonomers. The molecular structure, surface morphology, electrochemical, and optical properties of the resulting copolymers are characterized in detail upon varying the feed ratios of FuPy/EDOT in the range of 1/1 to 1/9. The results demonstrate that the prepared P(FuPy-co-EDOT) copolymers with a higher proportion of EDOT units (FuPy/EDOT: 2/8~1/9) possess good redox activity, tunable optical absorption performances, and low band gaps (1.75~1.86 eV). Spectroelectrochemistry studies indicate that the resulting copolymers with increased EDOT units show strengthened electrochromic characteristics, exhibiting a red-to-green-to-blue multicolor reversible transition, especially for the P(FuPy1-co-EDOT9) copolymer films. They also show increased optical contrast (9~34%), fast response time (0.8~2.4 s), and good coloring efficiency (110~362 cm2 C-1). Additionally, the complementary bilayer P(FuPy-co-EDOT)/PEDOT electrochromic devices (ECDs) are also assembled and evaluated to hold excellent electrochromic switching performances with relatively high optical contrast (25%), rapid response time (0.9 s), and satisfactory coloring efficiency (416 cm2 C-1). Together with the superior open circuit memory and cycling stability, they can be used as a new type of electrochromic material and have considerable prospects as promising candidates for electrochromic devices.

Abstract
Transparent-to-colored electrochromic devices exhibit promising application prospects and have gained popularity. Herein, two triphenylamine derivatives TPA-OCH3 and TPA-CN with styryl moieties and different donor or acceptor units were designed and synthesized to further prepare solvent-resistant thermally cross-linking polymer P(TPA-OCH3) and P(TPA-CN) without any additional initiator. P(TPA-OCH3) and P(TPA-CN) possess two pairs of redox peaks, and P(TPA-OCH3) shows a lower onset oxidation potential compared to P(TPA-CN) because of the pendent donor unit. Correspondingly, both polymers exhibit multicolored changes from the neutral colorless state to noticeable oxidized colors under different potentials. Furthermore, the thermally cross-linking copolymer P(TPA-OCH3-co-TPA-CN) was obtained by TPA-OCH3 and TPA-CN (the molar ratio is 2:1) and presents outstanding electrochromism with four color changes (colorless-orange-blue-purple) due to the multistep redox process of TPA-OCH3 and TPA-CN units. It is more intriguing that the electrochromic device based on the copolymer films possesses a high optical contrast of 57.8% at 680 nm, fast switching time (0.52 and 0.66 s), and robust cyclic stability over 30 000 cycles with very little decay. Therefore, the thermally cross-linking copolymer is a promising candidate material for high-performance transmittive electrochromic devices, such as smart windows, sunglasses, and E-papers.

Abstract
The diversification of electrochromic materials greatly expands the application fields of electrochromic devices. However, highly flexible electrochromic materials remain challenging due to the inherent limitations associated with the existing electrochromic processes. Inspired by the hydrogen bonding effect in the hydrogel structure, a highly elastic and bistable electrochromic ionic gel based on a hydrogen bonding cross-linking network is prepared by solution polymerization having excellent tensile resilience, uniform coloring, reversible switching (≤24.3 s), maximum transmittance change (≥80%), bistability (54 h), reversibility (>500 cycles), and coloration efficiency (≥85.3 cm2·C-1). This method has been used to develop bistable electrochromic displays. The unconventional exploration of the bistable design principle may provide a new idea for the realization of bistable electrochromic devices.

Abstract
A total of six conjugated polymers, namely PDBT-Th, PDBT-Th:Th, PDBT-2Th, PDBT-Th:2Th, PDBT-2Th:Th, and PDBT-2Th:2Th, consisting of dibenzothiophene, thiophene, and bithiophene were electrochemically synthesized. Their electrochemical and electrochromic properties were investigated in relation to the conjugation chain lengths of the thiophene units in the conjugated backbones. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations showed that longer conjugation lengths resulted in decreased HOMO-LUMO gaps in the polymers. The optical band gaps (Eg,opt) and electrochemical band gaps (Eg,cv) were decreased from PDBT-Th to PDBT-Th:Th, however, PDBT-Th:2Th, PDBT-2Th, PDBT-2Th:Th and PDBT-2Th:2Th displayed the similar band gaps. The conjugation length increments significantly improved the electrochemical stability of the conjugated polymers and exhibited reversible color changes due to the formation of polarons and bipolarons. The results suggest that the conjugated polymers prepared herein are promising candidates for fabricating flexible organic electrochromic devices.

Abstract
An electrochromic (EC) hyperbranched coordination nanosheet (CONASH) comprising a three-arm terpyridine (3tpy)-based ligand and Fe(II) ion has been synthesized by interfacial complexation at the liquid-liquid interface. The film can be easily deposited on the desired substrate such as indium tin oxide (ITO) glass. Characterization of CONASH deposited on ITO by microscopic methods reveals the homogeneous nanosheet film with an ∼350 nm thickness after 48 h of reaction. The fabricated solid-state EC device (ECD) undergoes a reversible redox reaction (Fe2+ → Fe3+) in the potential range of +3 to -2 V in ECDs accompanied with a distinct color change from intense pink to colorless for several switching cycles with a coloration time of 1.15 s and a bleaching time of 2.49 s along with a high coloration efficiency of 470.16 cm2 C-1. Besides, the nonconjugated 3tpy ligand restricts the easy electron redox conduction inside the EC film to enhance the EC memory in open-circuit condition as it shows 50% retention of its colorless state until 25 min. The long EC memory compared to other metallo-supramolecular polymers having a conjugated ligand suggests the potentiality of the 3tpy-Fe CONASH film to be used as a power-efficient EC material for modern display device applications.

Abstract
Copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) films with different morphologies were electrodeposited on the surfaces of ITO electrodes. Then, in each case, a polyaniline (PANI) film was electrochemically polymerized in situ on the surface of the copper phthalocyanine film to form a CuPc-PANI composite film. The electrochemical properties of the CuPc-PANI composite film were observed to be much better than those of the film without CuPc. With the modification involving the CuPc nanowires, the composite film formed a finer particle surface and an increased interface area between the PANI and the electrolyte. Compared to the single-component PANI film, the CuPc-PANI composite film exhibited better performance with a higher optical contrast (58% at 730 nm), a faster response speed (coloring time of 1.02 s, discoloring time of 1.96 s), and better cycling stability (68.71% of the initial electrochemical activity after 500 cycles, in contrast to only about 48.02% for PANI). Moreover, the CuPc-PANI film shows a new feature that can be used as a supercapacitor (specifically a capacitance value of about 5.4 mF cm-2 at typical currents). Our results demonstrate that the prepared CuPc-PANI composite film is one of the best candidates for multiple potential applications such as high-performance polymer electrochromic materials and supercapacitors.

Abstract
Three random copolymers PE- co -M1, PE- co -M2, and PE- co -M3 were obtained by electrochemical polymerization of donor-acceptor-donor monomers M1, M2, and M3 with 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene moiety, respectively, using a 1:1 molar ratio of the corresponding monomers, to find new properties and a more effective way to control the optoelectronic properties in conjugated system. For comparison purpose, polymers P1, P2, and P3 were prepared from the corresponding monomer units M1-M3, respectively, by electrochemical polymerization. We also present efficient synthesis, characterization, and comparative density functional theory (DFT) calculations of the monomers M1-M3 and polymers P1-P3. Cyclic voltammetry, spectroelectrochemistry, and electrochromic properties of all of the polymers P1-P3 and copolymers PE- co -M1, PE- co -M2, and PE- co -M3 were carried out and a throughout comparison was made. We have shown that electrochemical copolymerization is a powerful strategy to tune the highest occupied molecular orbital energy level, band gap, and color of the copolymer. Thus, this finding clearly indicates that the copolymers show significantly different optoelectronic properties compared to their constituent polymers.

Abstract
In this study, four novel donor⁻acceptor systems, 4-(2,3-dihydrothieno[3,4-b][1,4]dioxin -5-yl)-N-(4-(2,3-dihydrothieno[3,4-b][1,4]dioxin-5-yl)phenyl)-N-(4-nitrophenyl)aniline (NETPA), 4- (4-methoxythiophen-2-yl)-N-(4-(4-methoxythiophen-2-yl)phenyl)-N-(4-nitrophenyl)aniline (NMOTPA), 4-(4-methylthiophen-2-yl)-N-(4-(4-methylthiophen-2-yl)phenyl)-N-(4-nitrophenyl) aniline (NMTPA) and 4-nitro-N,N-bis(4-(thiophen-2-yl)phenyl)aniline (NTTPA), were successfully synthesized by Stille coupling reaction and electropolymerized to obtain highly stable conducting polymers, PNETPA, PNMOTPA, PNMTPA and PNTTPA, respectively. The polymers were characterized using cyclic voltammetry (CV), step profiling and UV⁻Vis⁻NIR spectroscopy. The band gaps (Eg values) were 1.34, 1.59, 2.26, and 2.34 eV, for PNETPA, PNMOTPA, PNMTPA and PNTTPA, respectively. In addition, electrochromic switching showed that all polymers exhibit outstanding optical contrasts, high coloration efficiencies and fast switching speeds in the near-infrared region (NIR). These properties make the polymers suitable materials for electrochromic applications in NIR region.
