Abstract
Glucose oxidase (GOx), as a molecular recognition element of glucose biosensors, has high sensitivity and selectivity advantages. As a type of biosensor, the glucose oxidase electrode exhibits advantages such as ease of operation, high sensitivity, and strong specificity, promising broad application prospects in biomedical science, the food industry, and other fields. In recent years, with the advancement of nanotechnology, research efforts to enhance the performance of GOx biosensors have primarily focused on improving the conductive properties and specific surface area of nanomaterials, while neglecting the potential to modify the structure of the core component, GOx itself, to improve biosensor performance. Rapid modification of the GOx surface through chemical modification techniques yields a new modified enzyme (mGOx). Meanwhile, composite techniques involving carbon nanomaterials can be employed to further enhance sensor performance. This article reviews the construction methods and optimization strategies of glucose oxidase electrodes in recent years, along with research progress in their application in electrochemical sensing for glucose detection, and provides an outlook for future developments.

Abstract
The availability of fast and non-expensive analytical methods for the determination of widespread interest analytes such as glucose is an object of large relevance; this is so not only in the field of analytical chemistry, but also in medicinal and in food chemistry. In this context, electrochemical biosensors have been proposed in different arrangements, according to the mode of electron transfer between the bioreceptor and the electrode. An efficient immobilization of an enzyme on the electrode surface is essential to assure satisfactory analytical performances of the biosensor in terms of sensitivity, limit of detection, selectivity, and linear range of employment. Here, we report the use of a thiophene monomer, (2,5-di(2-thienyl)thieno [3,2-b]thiophene (dTT-bT), as a precursor of an electrogenerated conducting film to immobilize the glucose oxidase (GOx) enzyme on Pt, glassy carbon (GC), and Au electrode surfaces. In addition, the polymer film electrochemically synthetized on a glassy carbon electrode was modified with graphene oxide before the deposition of GOx; the analytical performances of both the arrangements (without and with graphene oxide) in the glucose detection were compared. The biosensor containing graphene oxide showed satisfactory values of linear dynamic range (1.0-10 mM), limit of detection (0.036 mM), and sensitivity (9.4 µA mM-1 cm-2). Finally, it was tested in the determination of glucose in fruit juices; the interference from fructose, saccharose, and ascorbic acid was evaluated.

Abstract
Rapid glucose testing is very important in the care of diabetes. Monitoring of blood glucose is the most critical indicator of disease control in diabetic patients. The invention and popularity of electrochemical sensors have made glucose detection fast and inexpensive. The first generation of glucose sensors had limitations in terms of sensitivity and selectivity. In order to overcome these problems, scientists have used a range of new materials to produce new glucose electrochemical sensors with higher sensitivity, selectivity and lower cost. A variety of different electrochemical sensors including enzymatic electrochemical sensors and enzyme-free electrochemical sensors have been extensively investigated. We discussed the development process of electrochemical glucose sensors in this review. We focused on describing the benefits of carbon materials in nanomaterials, specially graphene for sensors. In addition, we discussed the limitations of the sensors and challenges in future research.

Abstract
Ionic liquids are regarded as one of the most prodigious materials for sustainable technological developments with superior performance and versatility. Hence, in this study, we have reported the design and synthesis of electroactive disubstituted ferrocenyl ionic liquids (Fc-ILs) with two different counter anions and demonstrated the significance of their anion tuneable physicochemical characteristics towards multifunctional electrochemical applications. The Fc-IL synthesized with chloride counter anion (Fc-Cl-IL) displays water-solubility and can be used as a redox additive in the fabrication of supercapacitor. Supercapacitor device with Fc-Cl-IL based redox electrolyte exhibits outstanding energy and power densities of 91 Wh kg-1 and 20.3 kW kg-1, respectively. Meanwhile, ferrocenyl IL synthesized with perchlorate anion (Fc-ClO4-IL) exhibits water-insolubility and can serve as a redox mediator towards construction of a glucose biosensor. The biosensor comprising Fc-ClO4-IL is able to detect glucose at an exceptionally lower potential of 0.2 V, with remarkable sensitivity and selectivity. This study implies that the introduction of electroactive ILs could afford supercapacitor devices with high energy and power densities and biosensors with less detection potential.

Abstract
For more than 40 years, protein-polymer conjugates have been widely used for many applications, industrially and biomedically. These bioconjugates have been shown to modulate the activity and stability of various proteins while introducing reusability and new activities that can be used for drug delivery, improve pharmacokinetic ability, and stimuli-responsiveness. Techniques such as RDRP, ROMP and "click" have routinely been utilized for development of well-defined bioconjugate and polymeric materials. Synthesis of bioconjugate materials often take advantage of natural amino acids present within protein and peptide structures for a host of coupling chemistries. Polymer modification may elicit increased or decreased activity, activity retention under harsh conditions, prolonged activity in vivo and in vitro, and introduce stimuli responsiveness. Bioconjugation has resulted to modulated thermal stability, chemical stability, storage stability, half-life and reusability. In this review we aim to provide a brief state of the field, highlight a wide range of behaviors caused by polymer conjugation, and provide areas of future work.

Abstract
In medical diagnosis and environmental monitoring, enzymatic biosensors are widely applied because of their high sensitivity, potential selectivity, and their possibility of miniaturization/automation. Enzyme immobilization is a critical process in the development of this type of biosensors with the necessity to avoid the denaturation of the enzymes and ensuring their accessibility toward the analyte. Electrodeposition of macromolecules is increasingly considered to be the most suitable method for the design of biosensors. Being simple and attractive, it finely controls the immobilization of enzymes on electrode surfaces, usually by entrapment or adsorption, using an electrical stimulus. Performed manually, enzyme immobilization by cross-linking prevents enzyme leaching and was never done using an electrochemical stimulus. In this work, we present a mussel-inspired electro-cross-linking process using glucose oxidase (GOX) and a homobifunctionalized catechol ethylene oxide spacer as a cross-linker in the presence of ferrocene methanol (FC) acting as a mediator of the buildup. Performed in one pot, the process takes place in three steps: (i) electro-oxidation of FC, by the application of cyclic voltammetry, creating a gradient of ferrocenium (FC+); (ii) oxidation of bis-catechol into a bis-quinone molecule by reaction with the electrogenerated FC+; and (iii) a chemical reaction of bis-quinone with free amino moieties of GOX through Michael addition and a Schiff's base condensation reaction. Employed for the design of a second-generation glucose biosensor using ferrocene methanol (FC) as a mediator, this new enzyme immobilization process presents several advantages. The cross-linked enzymatic film (i) is obtained in a one-pot process with nonmodified GOX, (ii) is strongly linked to the metallic electrode surface thanks to catechol moieties, and (iii) presents no leakage issues. The developed GOX/bis-catechol film shows a good response to glucose with a quite wide linear range from 1.0 to 12.5 mM as well as a good sensitivity (0.66 μA/mM cm2) and a high selectivity to glucose. These films would distinguish between healthy (3.8 and 6.5 mM) and hyperglycemic subjects (>7 mM). Finally, we show that this electro-cross-linking process allows the development of miniaturized biosensors through the functionalization of a single electrode out of a microelectrode array. Elegant and versatile, this electro-cross-linking process can also be used for the development of enzymatic biofuel cells.
