Abstract
Capacitive deionization (CDI) is a promising desalination technology, and metal-organic framework (MOF)-derived carbon as an electrode material has received more and more attention due to its designable structure. However, MOF-derived carbon materials with single-pore structures have been difficult to meet the technical needs of related fields. In this work, the ordered hierarchical porous carbon framework (OMCF) was prepared by the template method using zeolitic imidazolate frameworks-8 (ZIF-8) as a precursor. The pore structures, surface properties, electrochemical properties, and CDI performances of the OMCF were investigated and compared with the microporous carbon framework (MCF), also derived from ZIF-8. The results show that the hierarchical porous carbon OMCF possessed a higher specific surface area, better hydrophilic surface (with a contact angle of 13.45°), and higher specific capacitance and ion diffusion rate than those of the MCF, which made the OMCF exhibit excellent CDI performances. The adsorption capacity and salt adsorption rate of the OMCF in a 500 mg·L-1 NaCl solution at 1.2 V and a 20 mL·min-1 flow rate were 12.17 mg·g-1 and 3.34 mg·g-1·min-1, respectively, higher than those of the MCF. The deionization processes of the OMCF and MCF closely follow the pseudo-first-order kinetics, indicating the double-layer capacitance control. This work serves as a valuable reference for the CDI application of N-doped hierarchical porous carbon derived from MOFs.

Abstract
Capacitive deionization (CDI) using porous materials offers a sustainable solution for providing affordable freshwater, but the low salt adsorption rate of benchmark carbon materials significantly limit the practical implementation. Herein, we utilized carboxymethyl cellulose sodium (CMC) as the carbon skeleton to produce a composite carbon aerogel loaded with ZIF-8 (ZIF-8/CMC-CA). The presence of ZIF-8 nanoparticles improved the pore structure of the material and provides a certain pseudo capacitance by introducing N. Compared with ZIF-8 derived carbons (ZIF-8-C), the CMC provided a good three-dimensional structure for the dispersion of ZIF-8 nanoparticles, reduced the agglomeration of particles. Furthermore, numerous carboxyl and hydroxyl groups on CMC enhanced the hydrophilicity of materials. Due to the interconnected structure, ZIF-8/CMC-CA exhibited excellent conductivity, a high specific surface area, and offered suitable channels for the rapid entry and exit of ions. In a three-electrode system, the total specific capacitance of the ZIF-8/CMC-CA electrode was 357.14 F g-1. The adsorption rate of ZIF-8/CMC-CA was 2.02 mg g-1 min-1 in a 500 mg L-1 NaCl solution. This study may provide new insight for modifying and fabricating electrode materials for practical CDI applications.

Abstract
Aqueous zinc ion hybrid capacitors (aZHCs) are of great potential for large-scale energy storage and flexible wearable devices, of which the specific capacity and energy density need to be further enhanced for practical applications. Herein, a urea-mediated foaming strategy is reported for the efficient synthesis of monoliths consisting of nitrogen-enriched mesoporous carbon nanosheets (NPCNs) by prefoaming drying a solution made of polyvinylpyrrolidone, zinc nitrate, and urea at low temperatures, foaming and annealing at high temperatures, and subsequent acid etching. NPCNs have a large lateral size of ≈40 µm, thin thickness of ≈55 nm, abundant micropores and mesopores (≈3.8 nm), and a high N-doping value of 9.7 at.%. The NPCNs as the cathode in aZHCs provide abundant zinc storage sites involving both physical and chemical adsorption/desorption of Zn2+ ions, and deliver high specific capacities of 262 and 115 mAh g-1 at 0.2 and 10 A g-1 , and a remarkable areal capacity of ≈0.5 mAh cm-2 with a mass loading of 5.3 mg cm-2 , outperforming most carbon cathodes reported thus far. Moreover, safe and flexible NPCNs based quasi-solid-state devices are fabricated, which can withstand drilling and mechanical bending, suggesting their potential applications in wearable devices.

Abstract
Recently, new carbonization strategies for synthesizing structure-controlled and high-performance carbon electrode materials have attracted great attentions in the field of energy storage and conversion. Here a competitive carbonization-etching strategy to prepare nitrogen-doped carbon polyhedron@carbon nanosheet (NCP@CNS) hybrids derived from zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 is presented. Consecutive conductive networks are constructed in the NCP@CNS hybrids during a unique carbonization-etching pyrolysis, where a competition between the formation of NCPs and CNSs exists. When the NCP@CNS hybrids are employed as supercapacitor electrodes, their hierarchically porous NCPs serve as ion-buffering reservoirs for offering fast ion transport channels, and the CNSs within hybrids not only link the NCPs together to build electron transfer pathways but also restrict the volume fluctuation of electrodes during charging and discharging process. As a result, the as-fabricated NCP@CNS electrode displays excellent electrochemical performances including a superior specific capacitance of 320 F g-1 , a high energy density of 22.2 W h kg-1 (5.6 W h kg-1 for symmetric device), and a long cycle life with capacitance retention of ≈101.8% after 5000 cycles. This study opens an encouraging avenue toward the tailored synthesis of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs)-derived carbon electrodes for renewable energy storage applications and devices.

Abstract
Capacitive deionization (CDI), as an emerging eco-friendly electrochemical brackish water deionization technology, has widely benefited from carbon/metal oxide composite electrodes. However, this technique still requires further development of the electrode materials to tackle the ion removal capacity/rate issues. In the present work, we introduce a novel active carbon (AC)/Co3O4-Sb2O3-SnO2 active material for hybrid electrode capacitive deionization (HECDI) systems. The structure and morphology of the developed electrodes were determined using X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET)/Barrett-Joyner-Halenda (BJH) techniques, as well as Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The electrochemical properties were also investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The CDI active materials AC/Co3O4 and AC/Co3O4-Sb2O3-SnO2 showed a high specific capacity of 96 and 124 F g-1 at the scan rate of 10 mV s-1, respectively. In addition, the newly-developed electrode AC/Co3O4-Sb2O3-SnO2 showed high capacity retention of 97.2% after 2000 cycles at 100 mV s-1. Moreover, the electrode displayed excellent CDI performance with an ion removal capacity of 52 mg g-1 at the applied voltage of 1.6 V and in a solution of potable water with initial electrical conductivity of 950 μs cm-1. The electrode displayed a high ion removal rate of 7.1 mg g-1 min-1 with an excellent desalination-regeneration capability while retaining about 99.5% of its ion removal capacity even after 100 CDI cycles.

Abstract
High gravimetric, areal and volumetric capacities together with long lifetime are key indexes for the applications of lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries in compact space. The sulfur host materials play pivotal roles in the practical deployment. Herein, one type of new heterostructure nanosheets composed of cobalt boride (CoB) on nitrogen, boron-codoped porous carbon (NBC), which is constructed through molten salt-assisted strategy using ZIF-67-encapsulated ZIF-8 as precursors is reported on. Benefiting from strong interfacial electronic interactions between binary sulfiphilic CoB and porous NBC, the CoB/NBC-S electrode exhibits the excellent cycling stability with low average capacity decay of 0.013% in ultralong 1500 cycles at high rate of 5 C. Remarkably, the electrode with high sulfur content of 82 wt% and high sulfur loading of 5.8 mg cm-2 delivers gravimetric capacity of 1309 mA h g-1 , areal capacity of 7.59 mA h cm-2 , and volumetric capacity of 1355 mA h cm-3 at 0.1 C. The favorable electrochemical performance can rival with the state-of-the-art of those in the reported nanosheets-based sulfur cathodes. This study provides new methodology for the design of heterostructure nanosheets of metal borides to achieve energy density and longevity of Li-S batteries.
