Successful diagnosis and treatment of Dieulafoy's lesion with endoscopy and thermocoagulation in a full-term neonate: Report of a case and literature review

A rare anomaly: duodenal Dieulafoy's lesion in a preterm baby

Neonatal Dieulafoy's lesion is a rare but serious condition that can be life-threatening if not diagnosed and intervened in a timely manner. It presents with episodes of sudden acute gastrointestinal haemorrhage in the form of blood in vomit and/or blood in stool. In general, most of the lesions are successfully treated with endoscopic or angiographic intervention. Surgery is usually reserved for cases that fail endoscopic or angiographic intervention. We present a neonatal case of duodenal Dieulafoy's lesion that occurred in a 29-week-old male baby with birth weight of 1.2 kg. He developed melena and haematemesis at 4 weeks of life. He required normal saline boluses and transfusion of blood products for acute blood loss. The lesion was successfully treated with endoscopic intervention.

Neonatal Dieulafoy Lesion Requiring Massive Transfusion Protocol and Surgical Intervention

Neonatal Dieulafoy lesion is a rare but severe condition that can be life-threatening if not intervened upon in a timely fashion. In the general population, the majority of lesions are successfully treated with endoscopic or angiographic intervention. Surgery is usually reserved for cases that fail endoscopic or angiographic intervention. We present a case of neonatal Dieulafoy lesion that occurred less than 24 h after delivery with hematemesis. The patient required large volume resuscitation and massive transfusion of blood products for acute blood loss. The lesion was successfully treated with surgical ligation after a failed attempt at endoscopic intervention.

Enteric Fever Presenting as Hemorrhagic Shock due to Bleeding from Dieulafoy's Lesion

Dieulafoy's lesion (DL) is an arteriole that protrudes through a tiny mucosal defect, usually within 6 cm of the gastroesophageal junction on the lesser curve of the stomach. Similar lesions have also been described in the distal esophagus, small intestine, colon, and rectum. Enteric fever has been reported as one of the cause of bleeding from DL of ileum in the past. The authors report a rare case of life threatening bleeding from DL of stomach in a child with enteric fever.

Massive Gastric Hemorrhage due to Dieulafoy's Lesion in a Preterm Neonate: A Case Report and Literature Review of the Lesion in Neonates

Dieulafoy's lesion is an extremely rare cause of upper gastrointestinal bleeding in the neonatal age group. Till now, only 6 cases of Dieulafoy's lesion in neonatal period have been reported in the international literature. Herein, we report an extremely rare case of Dieulafoy's lesion in a preterm neonate.
