Abstract
Background and Aim With the increasing cost of bulk raw materials and advancements in the feed enzyme industry, corn distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) have shown more opportunities for use in broiler diets. Supplementation with multiple enzymes could mitigate anti-nutritional factors in DDGS, enhance nutrient digestibility, and thereby increase its utilization in broiler diets, leading to reduced feed costs. This study evaluated the effects of multienzyme supplementation on growth performance, nutrient utilization, intestinal morphology, and pellet quality in broiler chickens fed diets containing conventional levels of DDGS (C-DDGS) and higher levels of DDGS (H-DDGS). Materials and Methods A total of 800 1-day-old Cobb 500 chicks was assigned to four dietary treatments with eight replicates of 25 birds each: C-DDGS (5% DDGS in Starter and 10% in Grower), C-DDGS + Enzyme (C-DDGS diet supplemented with multienzyme), H-DDGS (10% and 20%) + Enzyme (H-DDGS diet supplemented with multienzyme, 10% DDGS in Starter and 20% in Grower), and H-DDGS (15% and 30%) + Enzyme. Results The C-DDGS + enzyme diet increased (p < 0.05) body weight gain (BWG), reduced the feed conversion ratio, enhanced (p < 0.05) digestibility of dry matter (DM), crude protein, and hemicellulose (HC), and improved (p < 0.05) intestinal villus height and villus: crypt ratio of broilers. The H-DDGS (10% and 20%) + enzyme diet exhibited no difference in (p > 0.05) growth performance, nutrient digestibility (except HC), and intestinal morphological parameters, whereas the H-DDGS (15% and 30%) + enzyme diet decreased (p < 0.05) feed intake and BWG and reduced (p < 0.05) energy and DM digestibility by impact (p < 0.05) intestinal morphology compared with the C-DDGS enzyme-free diet. The H-DDGS diet had lower (p < 0.05) pellet hardness and poorer durability than the C-DDGS diet. Conclusion Supplementing multienzyme in the C-DDGS (5% and 10%) diet improved growth performance from day 0 to 28 and diminished growth performance in the H-DDGS (15% and 30%) diet by influencing intestinal morphology and feed pellet quality in broiler chickens. In addition, when supplemented with multienzyme, the dietary DDGS level can be safely included at levels of 10% in 0-7 days and 20% in 8-28 days of age.

Abstract
Based on green analytical chemistry principles it is important to evolve procedures that convert solid samples into solutions without using excessive reagent quantities, energy, temperature, and avoiding waste generation. To reach this aim, a simple infrared assisted digestion (IRAD) method for animal feed analysis was proposed. Infrared radiation (IR) with 2 mL of HNO3 and 2 mL of H2O2 were assessed, presenting low dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and residual acidity (RA) in the final digest, being fully compatible with microwave induced plasma atomic emission spectrometry (MIP OES). Calcium, Cd, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Na, P, Sr and Zn were determined in reference materials and in animal feeds. Limits of quantification were between 2.52 and 284 mg kg-1 for Ca and P respectively. Recovery values ranged 80-120%, with relative standard deviations (RSD%) under 8%. The friendliness offered by the IRAD MIP OES method was evaluated by two green indexes. Concentrations in feedstuffs were compared with National Research Council (NRC) recommendations.

Abstract
Trace minerals are commonly supplemented in the diets of farmed animals in levels exceeding biological requirements, resulting in extensive fecal excretion and environmental losses. Chelation of trace metal supplements with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) can mitigate the effects of dietary antagonists by preserving the solubility of trace minerals. Lack of EDTA biodegradability, however, is of environmental concern. l-Glutamic acid, N,N-diacetic acid (GLDA) is a readily biodegradable chelating agent that could be used as a suitable alternative to EDTA. The latter was tested in sequential dose–response experiments in broiler chickens. Study 1 compared the effect of EDTA and GLDA in broilers on supplemental zinc availability at three levels of added zinc (5, 10, and 20 ppm) fed alone or in combination with molar amounts of GLDA or EDTA equivalent to chelate the added zinc, including negative (no supplemental zinc) and positive (80 ppm added zinc) control treatments. Study 2 quantified the effect of GLDA on the availability of native trace mineral feed content in a basal diet containing no supplemental minerals and supplemented with three levels of GLDA (54, 108, and 216 ppm). In study 1, serum and tibia Zn clearly responded to the increasing doses of dietary zinc with a significant response to the presence of EDTA and GLDA (P < 0.05). These results are also indicative of the equivalent nutritional properties between GLDA and EDTA. In study 2, zinc levels in serum and tibia were also increased with the addition of GLDA to a basal diet lacking supplemental trace minerals, where serum zinc levels were 60% higher at the 216 ppm inclusion level. Similar to the reported effects of EDTA, these studies demonstrate that dietary GLDA may have enhanced zinc solubility in the gastrointestinal tract and subsequently enhanced availability for absorption, resulting in improved nutritional zinc status in zinc-deficient diets. As such, GLDA can be an effective nutritional tool to reduce supplemental zinc levels in broiler diets, thereby maintaining health and performance while reducing the environmental footprint of food-producing animals.

Abstract
RATIONALE Bromine and iodine have important physiological functions; however, in inadequate concentration, they can also cause several physiological problems. Their mobility assessment in human organisms through biological sampling may help clarify some doubts related to metabolic routes, which are still not well elucidated. In this context, a suitable analytical method for this purpose should be developed. METHODS An analytical method for determining ultratrace levels of bromine and iodine in human nail samples was developed. Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) using a conventional nebulization system was immediately chosen as the determination tool because of its powerful sensitivity and selectivity. Sample preparation methods including microwave-induced combustion (MIC), microwave-assisted extraction, and microwave-assisted digestion were evaluated. The compatibility of the final solutions with ICP-MS analysis was considered while the method was developed. RESULTS MIC was chosen as the most suitable method for the sample preparation for determining the levels of bromine and iodine in human nail samples using ICP-MS. Unlike other sample preparation methods, this one fully eliminated interferences related to the carbon content and memory effects. Sample masses up to 100 mg were efficiently digested, and the analytes were quantitatively absorbed using only 50 mmol L-1 NH4 OH solution. Recoveries ranged from 93% to 102%, and the relative standard deviation was < 8%. CONCLUSIONS The proposed analytical method presents important characteristics for routine analysis. It allows ultratrace determination even when low sample masses are used because of the low blank values, reduced volume of reagents, and powerful detectability using ICP-MS.

Abstract
The halogen determination is important in view of their biological and environmental roles, but their determination has still been considered a challenge, especially at low concentrations. Therefore, a method for honey decomposition using microwave-induced combustion (MIC) combined with ion chromatography and conductimetric detection (for Cl, F, and S determination) or mass detection (for Br and I determination) (IC-CD-MS) is proposed. Trueness was evaluated by adding reference materials (RMs) or a standard solution in the sample. By using 50 mmol L-1 NH4OH as the absorbing solution, recoveries for all analytes were between 94 and 103%, in both tests. Moreover, no statistical difference (t test, confidence level of 95%) was observed for the results obtained by IC in comparison with those obtained by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (Cl and S) and by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (Br and I). Finally, the proposed method was applied to 19 honey samples from different origins. The concentrations ranged from < 0.45 to 2.39 mg kg-1 (Br), 21.8 to 671 mg kg-1 (Cl), and 11 to 154 mg kg-1 (S), while the F and I concentrations were below that their quantification limits (LOQs) in all analyzed samples. The LOQs for Br, Cl, F, I, and S were 0.45, 21, 3.7, 0.077, and 8.7 mg kg-1, respectively. The MIC method provided a compatible solution to IC for the halogen and S determination in honey by a single analysis. Graphical abstract.

Abstract
In this work, an analytical method for bromine and iodine determination in human saliva was proposed. A simple protocol based on centrifugation and direct analysis of supernatant by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was investigated. Although this method was feasible for bromine determination, iodine was partially present in the supernatant and an agreement about 54% with reference value was obtained. In addition, microwave-induced combustion (MIC) and microwave-assisted dissolution were also evaluated. Using MIC, 0.2 mL of saliva added on 300 mg of microcrystalline cellulose were efficiently digested. A diluted solution (50 mmol L-1 NH4OH) was used for analytes absorption, and a reflux step of 5 min was applied to ensure quantitative recoveries of Br and I. Accuracy was evaluated by analyte recovery experiments, and recoveries between 94% and 98% were obtained. Microwave-assisted dissolution was evaluated for 2.0 mL of saliva using also a diluted alkaline solution (25 mmol L-1 NH4OH) and a microwave irradiation program of 35 min (including the cooling step). Results for this method agreed with those obtained using MIC. Although MIC has also been appropriated for further determination of Br and I in saliva, microwave-assisted dissolution can be considered a simpler sample preparation method and it was effective for high amount of sample (up to 2.0 mL). Moreover, final solutions were compatible with ICP-MS analysis, allowing the quantification of Br and I in human saliva at ultra-trace concentrations (limits of quantification were 0.052 μg mL-1 for Br and 0.022 μg mL-1 for I).
