Abstract
Quercetin (QR) is a natural flavonoid with strong anti-inflammatory properties, but it suffers from poor water solubility and bioavailability. Micro/nanomotors (NMs) are tiny devices that convert external energy or chemical fuels into an autonomous motion. They are characterized by their small size, rapid movement, and self-assembly capabilities, which can enhance the delivery of bioactive ingredients. The study synthesized natural polysaccharide-based nanotubes (NTs) using a layer-by-layer self-assembly method and combined with urease (Ure), glucose oxidase (GOx), and Fe3O4 to create three types of NMs. These NMs were well-dispersed and biocompatible. In vitro experiments showed that NMs-Fe3O4 has excellent photothermal conversion properties and potential for use in photothermal therapy. Cellular inflammation model results demonstrated that QR-loaded NMs were not only structurally stable but also improved bioavailability and effectively inhibited the release of inflammatory mediators such as IL-1β and IL-6, providing a safe and advanced carrier system for the effective use of bioactive components in food.

Abstract
Plant extracts, derived from various natural sources, encompass primary and secondary metabolites, which include plant polysaccharides, polyphenols, alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, terpenes, and volatile oils. These compounds exhibit a range of biological activities such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial functions. Currently, polyphenols and other bioactive compounds are being incorporated into the diets of farm animals, fish, and pets to promote health benefits. Despite this, the application and potential of plant extracts in canine and feline nutrition have not been comprehensively explored. Many aspects of the mechanisms underlying the action of these plant metabolites remain to be analyzed and elucidated. Furthermore, leveraging natural plant extracts for the treatment of clinical conditions in dogs and cats is a crucial component of clinical nutrition. Consequently, this review aims to highlight the impact of plant extracts on overall health, gastrointestinal health, immune health, cardiovascular health, redox balance, and pathology in dogs and cats.

Abstract
Bacterial resistance is a growing problem worldwide, and the number of deaths due to drug resistance is increasing every year. We must pay great attention to bacterial resistance. Otherwise, we may go back to the pre-antibiotic era and have no drugs on which to rely. Bacterial resistance is the result of several causes, with efflux mechanisms widely recognised as a significant factor in the development of resistance to a variety of chemotherapeutic and antimicrobial medications. Efflux pump inhibitors, small molecules capable of restoring the effectiveness of existing antibiotics, are considered potential solutions to antibiotic resistance and have been an active area of research in recent years. This article provides a review of the efflux mechanisms of common clinical pathogenic bacteria and their efflux pump inhibitors and describes the effects of efflux pump inhibitors on biofilm formation, bacterial virulence, the formation of bacterial persister cells, the transfer of drug resistance among bacteria, and mismatch repair. Numerous efforts have been made in the past 20 years to find novel efflux pump inhibitors which are known to increase the effectiveness of medicines against multidrug-resistant strains. Therefore, the application of efflux pump inhibitors has excellent potential to address and reduce bacterial resistance.

Abstract
The impact of yogurts made with starter culture bacteria (L. bulgaricus and S. thermophilus) and supplemented with ingredients (maitake mushrooms, quercetin, L-glutamine, slippery elm bark, licorice root, N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, zinc orotate, and marshmallow root) that can help treat leaky gut were investigated using the Caco-2 cell monolayer as a measure of intestinal barrier dysfunction. Milk from the same source was equally dispersed into nine pails, and the eight ingredients were randomly allocated to the eight pails. The control had no ingredients. The Caco-2 cells were treated with isoflavone genistein (negative control) and growth media (positive control). Inflammation was stimulated using an inflammatory cocktail of cytokines (interferon-γ, tumor necrosis factor-α, and interleukin-1β) and lipopolysaccharide. The yogurt without ingredients (control yogurt) was compared to the yogurt treatments (yogurts with ingredients) that help treat leaky gut. Transepithelial electrical resistance (TEER) and paracellular permeability were measured to evaluate the integrity of the Caco-2 monolayer. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), immunofluorescence microscopy (IM), and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RTQPCR) were applied to measure the integrity of tight junction proteins. The yogurts were subjected to gastric and intestinal digestion, and TEER was recorded. Ferrous ion chelating activity, ferric reducing potential, and DPPH radical scavenging were also examined to determine the yogurts' antioxidant capacity. Yogurt with quercetin and marshmallow root improved the antioxidant activity and TEER and had the lowest permeability in fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC)-dextran and Lucifer yellow flux among the yogurt samples. TEM, IM, and RTQPCR revealed that yogurt enhanced tight junction proteins' localization and gene expression. Intestinal digestion of the yogurt negatively impacted inflammation-induced Caco-2 barrier dysfunction, while yogurt with quercetin, marshmallow root, maitake mushroom, and licorice root had the highest TEER values compared to the control yogurt. Yogurt fortification with quercetin, marshmallow root, maitake mushroom, and licorice root may improve functionality when dealing with intestinal barrier dysfunction.

Abstract
The ability of a therapeutic compound to bind to proteins is critical for characterizing its therapeutic impacts. We have selected quercetin (Qu), a most common flavonoid found in plants and vegetables among therapeutic molecules that are known to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-genotoxic, and anti-cancer effects. The current study aimed to see how quercetin interacts with pepsin in an aqueous environment under physiological conditions. Absorbance and emission spectroscopy, circular dichroism (CD), and kinetic methods, as well as molecular dynamic (MD) simulation and docking, were applied to study the effects of Qu on the structure, dynamics, and kinetics of pepsin. Stern-Volmer (Ksv) constants were computed for the pepsin-quercetin complex at three temperatures, showing that Qu reduces enzyme emission spectra using a static quenching. With Qu binding, the Vmax and the kcat/Km values decreased. UV-vis absorption spectra, fluorescence emission spectroscopy, and CD result indicated that Qu binding to pepsin leads to microenvironmental changes around the enzyme, which can alter the enzyme's secondary structure. Therefore, quercetin caused alterations in the function and structure of pepsin. Thermodynamic parameters, MD binding, and docking simulation analysis showed that non-covalent reactions, including the hydrophobic forces, played a key role in the interaction of Qu with pepsin. The findings conclude of spectroscopic experiments were supported by molecular dynamics simulations and molecular docking results.

Abstract
The by-product of Chinese rubing cheese is rich in whey protein. Whey hydrolysates exhibit good hypoglycemic activity, but which specific peptide components are responsible for this effect have not yet been investigated. Herein, the α-glucosidase inhibitory activity of the ultrafiltered fraction (<3 kDa) of rubing cheese whey hydrolysates was evaluated with the inhibition rate of 37.89 %. In addition, peptide identification was conducted using LC-MS/MS, and three peptides YPVEPF, VPYPQ, and LPYPY were identified. Among these, YPVEPF had higher α-glucosidase inhibitory activity (IC50 = 3.52 mg/mL) and interacted with α-glucosidase via hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic forces. YPVEPF was characterized as an amphipathic peptide rich in antiparallel (50.50 %) and random coil (35.20 %) structures, as well as showed good tolerance to gastrointestinal digestion and incubation under the temperature range of 20-80 °C. Notably, YPVEPF activity increased in the presence of Al3+ and Fe3+, as well as within the pH range of 2.0-6.0. Furthermore, YPVEPF had negligible hemolytic activity at a concentration of 1.0 mg/mL, no toxicity at concentrations below 0.5 mg/mL, and significantly promoted glucose consumption in HepG2 cells (p < 0.0001). Collectively, these findings indicate the potential of YPVEPF to be used as a novel hypoglycemic peptide in functional foods.

Abstract
Discarding Lonicera japonica Thunb. (LJT) residues containing many active metabolites create tremendous waste. This study aimed to effectively use LJT residues by anaerobic fermentation. Fermentation significantly decreased the pH values and reduced the abundance of undesirable bacteria (potential pathogenic and biofilm-forming) while increasing Lactobacillus abundance. Compound additive use further improved fermentation quality (significantly increased the lactic acid (LA) content and decreased the pH values and ammonia nitrogen (a-N) content) and nutrient quality (significantly decreased the acid detergent fiber (ADF) content and increased the water-soluble carbohydrate (WSC) content) and optimized the microbial community (increased the Lactobacillus abundance). Fermentation also altered the flavonoids, alkaloids and phenols contents in the residues with minor effects on the functional metabolites amounts. The LJT residues metabolic profile was mainly attributed to its epiphytic bacteria, with a small contribution from the compound additive. Thus, compound additives may improve anaerobic LJT residue fermentation without functionally impairing the metabolites.

Abstract
Oxidation modulators regarding antioxidants and reactive oxygen species (ROS) inducers have been used for the treatment of many diseases. However, a systematic review that refers to delivery system for divergent modulation of oxidative level within the biomedical scope is lacking. To provide a comprehensive summarization and analysis, we review pilot designs for delivering the oxidative modulators and the main applications for inflammatory treatment and tumor therapy. On the one hand, the antioxidants based delivery system can be employed to downregulate ROS levels at inflammatory sites to treat inflammatory diseases (e.g., skin repair, bone-related diseases, organ dysfunction, and neurodegenerative diseases). On the other hand, the ROS inducers based delivery system can be employed to upregulate ROS levels at the tumor site to kill tumor cells (e.g., disrupt the endogenous oxidative balance and induce lethal levels of ROS). Besides the current designs of delivery systems for oxidative modulators and the main application cases, prospects for future research are also provided to identify intelligent strategies and inspire new concepts for delivering oxidative modulators.

Abstract
Quercetin is a plant-derived polyphenol flavonoid that has been proven to be effective for many diseases. However, the mechanism and in vivo metabolism of quercetin remains to be clarified. It achieves a wide range of biological effects through various metabolites, gut microbiota and its metabolites, systemic mediators produced by inflammation and oxidation, as well as by multiple mechanisms. The all-round disease treatment of quercetin is achieved through the organic combination of multiple channels. Therefore, this article clarifies the metabolic process of quercetin in the body, and explores the new pattern of action of quercetin in the treatment of diseases.

Abstract
Dissolved oxygen is one of the determinants in the healthy farming of Pelteobagrus vachelli. This study, we conducted quantitative proteomics on the juvenile P. vachelli livers using iTRAQ. P. vachelli were treated by 3.75 ± 0.25 mg O2/L (hypoxia group) and 7.25 ± 0.25 mg O2/L (control group) for 90 days. The results revealed that under hypoxic conditions, P. vachelli grew slower than control group. Proteomic profiling enabled us to identify 2618 proteins, of which 176 were significantly differentially abundant proteins (DAPs). Verification of protein regulation based on qRT-PCR indicated that the proteomics data were reliable. The top 20 significantly DAPs (10 up-regulated, 10 down-regulated) were primarily involved in energy metabolism, apoptosis inhibition, and heavy metal detoxification. KEGG pathway enrichment analysis revealed significant enrichment of 'protein digestion and absorption', 'glycolysis/gluconeogenesis', and 'phagosome'. Combining the proteomics results of short-term hypoxia (treated with 0.70 ± 0.10 mg O2 /L for 4 h), we screened 36 common DAPs. The analysis of the 36 common DAPs indicated that P. vachelli responded to the hypoxia by regulating energy supply, inhibiting apoptosis, and disturbing defensive system. Our results lay a theoretical foundation for the cultivation of hypoxia-tolerant species and eco-breeding of P. vachelli. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY: The hypoxia tolerance of Pelteobagrus vachelli is poor, which will seriously lead to its death in high-density culture. This study analysed the liver proteome of P. vachelli under long-term hypoxia stress (treated for 90 days at 3.75 ± 0.25 mg O2/L), and then combined the proteome results of short-term hypoxia stress (treated for 4 h at 0.70 ± 0.10 mg O2/L). The results showed P. vachelli responded to the hypoxia by regulating energy supply, inhibiting apoptosis and disturbing defensive system. The study contributes to the breeding of new hypoxia-tolerant species of P. vachelli and lays the theoretical foundation for eco-breeding.
