Abstract
Ficus hirta Vahl. (FhV) has been shown to have antimicrobial and antiviral efficacy. To further ascertain the pharmacological properties of FhV., and to search for alternatives to antibiotics. An in vitro experiment was carried out to evaluate what influence FhV. would have on LPS-induced apoptosis. In this study, Fas, an apoptosis receptor, was cloned, which included a 5'-UTR of 39 bp, an ORF of 951 bp, a protein of 316 amino acids, and a 3'-UTR of 845 bp. EcFas was most strongly expressed in the spleen tissue of orange-spotted groupers. In addition, the apoptosis of fish spleen cells induced by LPS was concentration-dependent. Interestingly, appropriate concentrations of FhV. alleviated LPS-induced apoptosis. Inhibition of miR-411 further decreased the inhibitory effect of Fas on apoptosis, which reduced Bcl-2 expression and mitochondrial membrane potential, enhanced the protein expression of Bax and Fas. More importantly, the FhV. could activate miR-411 to improve this effect. In addition, luciferase reporter assays showed that miR-411 binds to Fas 3'-UTR to inhibit Fas expression. These findings provide evidence that FhV. alleviates LPS-induced apoptosis by activating miR-411 to inhibit Fas expression and, therefore, provided possible strategies for bacterial infections in fish.

Abstract
The polychaete Perinereis aibuhitensis is used for bioremediation; however, its ability to remove fluorene, a common environmental pollutant, from sediments remains unclear, especially at low concentrations of fluorene (10 mg/kg). In this study, we explored the mechanism of intestinal injury induced by low concentrations of fluorene and the reason intestinal injury is alleviated in high fluorene concentration groups (100 and 1000 mg/kg) using histology, ecological biomarkers, gut microbiome, and metabolic response analyses. The results show that P. aibuhitensis showed high tolerance to fluorene in sediments, with clearance rates ranging 25-50 %. However, the remediation effect at low fluorene concentrations (10 mg/kg) was poor. This is attributed to promoting the growth of harmful microorganisms such as Microvirga, which can cause metabolic disorders, intestinal flora imbalances, and the generation of harmful substances such as 2-hydroxyfluorene. These can result in severe intestinal injury in P. aibuhitensis, reducing its fluorene clearance rate. However, high fluorene concentrations (100 and 1000 mg/kg) may promote the growth of beneficial microorganisms such as Faecalibacterium, which can replace the dominant harmful microorganisms and improve metabolism to reverse the intestinal injury caused by low fluorene concentrations, ultimately restoring the fluorene-removal ability of P. aibuhitensis. This study demonstrates an effective method for evaluating the potential ecological risks of fluorene pollution in marine sediments and provides guidance for using P. aibuhitensis for remediation.

Abstract
This experiment was performed to identify the influence of dietary Saussurea lappa root (SLR) on the performance and general health status of Nile Tilapia fingerlings (O. niloticus). Four formulated diets with different SLR levels of 0.0, 2.5, 5 and 10 g/kg, respectively, were afforded to fingerling fish (15.42 ± 0.05 g) for 8 weeks. The feed efficiency ratio (FER), feed intake (FI) and feed conversion ratio varied with dietary SLR level in a linear model and a high feed efficiency rate was recorded at the 10 g/kg group, while FI and FCR exhibited an opposite trend (P < 0.001). Dietary SLR level influenced serum protein constituents, liver and renal function enzymes, triglycerides, cholesterol and glucose (P < 0.001). Serum Catalase (CAT), total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) remarkedly increased with dietary SLR level and attained a level at 10 g/kg. Furthermore, serum lysozyme, complement C3 (C3), IgA and IgD were stimulated by 10 g/kg SLR. Intestinal digestive enzymes (lipase and amylase) increased with SLR level up to 10 g/kg. As the dietary SLR level raised, the cumulative survival percentage aginst A. hydrophila challenge increased and then reached a maximum at 10 g/kg SLR group. Moreover, gene expression of pro-inflammation cytokines (TNF-2a, IL-1β, and IL-10) in liver and kidney transcriptomes demonstrated effective immunostimulant capabilities of greater SLR inclusion levels in fish diet. Meanwhile, intestinal microbial investigation, revealed that high levels of SLR in tilapia fish feed significantly suppressed total bacterial count, and pathogenic bacterial count (such as, E. coli, Coliform, Aeromonas spp, Pseudomonas spp.), and stimulated lactic acid bacteria development. Finally, it is recommended to include a high level of SLR (5 or 10 g/kg) in the diet of O. niloticus fingerlings to enhance feed efficiency, antioxidant characteristics, and immunological response against bacterial infections.

Abstract
Rainbow trout is a widely farmed economical cold-water fish worldwide, but the prevalence of infectious hematopoietic necrosis virus (IHNV) presents a severe risk to the aquaculture industry, resulting in high mortality and huge economic losses. In this study, the impacts of different concentrations (0, 10, 20, and 30 g/kg) of Chinese herbal medicine mixture (CHMM) on the immune response and resistance of rainbow trout to IHNV infection were evaluated. The results show that CHMM noticeably increased (P < 0.05) T-SOD, CAT, AST, ALT, ACP, and AKP activities and decreased MDA content. NF-κB, TNF-α, IFN-β, IL-1β, JAK1, HSP70, and HSP90 expressions were significantly upregulated (P < 0.05) in all CHMMs, while SOCS2 expression was downregulated (P < 0.05). Following infection with IHNV, feeding rainbow trout with varying amounts of CHMM resulted in noticeably increased (P < 0.05) T-SOD, ACP, and AKP activities and significantly decreased (P < 0.05) MDA content and AST and ALT activities. TNF-α, IFN-β, IL-1β, HSP70, and HSP90 expressions were significantly upregulated (P < 0.05) in all CHMMs, while the expressions of JAK1 and SOCS2 were downregulated. The expression level of the IHNV G protein gene at a dosage of 20 g/kg was notably lower than that of the other CHMM feeding groups. This study provides a solid scientific basis for promoting CHMM as an immunostimulant for boosting antiviral immunity in rainbow trout.

Abstract
(1) Background: the development of new antibiotic substitutes to promote pig growth and health has become an important way to solve the current dilemma and promote the pig industry. (2) Methods: to assess the effects of a fermented Chinese herbal (FCH) formula on the growth and immunity of growing pigs, 100 Duroc × Landrace × Yorshire three-way crossed growing pigs were randomly divided into control and treatment groups that were fed a basal diet, and a basal diet with 1% (group A), 2% (group B), and 3% (group C) FCH formulas, respectively. A sixty-day formal experiment was conducted, and their growth and serum indices, colonic microbiota, and metabolites were analyzed. (3) Results: the daily gain of growing pigs in groups A, B, and C increased by 7.93%, 17.68%, and 19.61%, respectively, and the feed-to-gain ratios decreased by 8.33%, 15.00%, and 14.58%, respectively. Serum immunity and antioxidant activities were significantly increased in all treatment groups. Particularly, adding a 2% FCH formula significantly changed the colon's microbial structure; the Proteobacteria significantly increased and Firmicutes significantly decreased, and the metabolite composition in the colon's contents significantly changed. (4) Conclusions: these results indicate that the FCH formula is a good feed additive for growing pigs, and the recommended addition ratio was 3%.
