Development of the Refugees and Asylum Seekers Occupational Satisfaction (RASOS) Assessment Tool

The objective of this study was to develop an occupation-centered and client-centered assessment tool for refugees and asylum seekers. A preliminary tool outline was produced based on a literature review, while considering previous published tools' strengths and limitations. A qualitative study was undertaken via focus groups to improve on the tool's design and adequacy for its purpose, resulting in the creation of a pilot version of the tool. Convenience sampling included 8 Greek and Cypriot professional and student occupational therapists with experience in the field, 8 international expert occupational therapists, 4 laypeople, 4 humanitarian professionals, and 5 refugees and asylum seekers. Basic qualitative content and thematic analysis led to topics regarding tool modifications that concerned categorization, formation/structure, wording, administration, and assessment scale. Corresponding tool revisions ensued. This study led to the development of the pilot version of the Refugees and Asylum Seekers Occupational Satisfaction (RASOS), which can also be used to identify underlying personal and environmental factors that contribute to self-perceived low satisfaction. A future quantitative study is required to establish the psychometric properties of the tool.

Students' conceptions of health: A cross educational stage survey

The purpose of the study was to reveal participants' health concepts via a cross- sectional survey examining students at different educational stages. Four dimensions of health are integrated within an overall health concept, as drawn from relevant literature: the physical, mental, social, and cultural dimensions. An open questionnaire was administered to 551 students in three educational stages in Taiwan: junior high (13 ± 0.6yrs), senior high (16 ± 0.6yrs), and college (19 ± 0.6yrs). The results indicated that the total participants' major health concerns were situated within the physical dimension, followed by the social and mental dimensions. No participants mentioned a cultural dimension of health. Senior high school students were relatively more concerned with the mental rather than the physical dimension when compared to responses from the other two stages. Moreover, a gender difference was found in that female participants were more concerned with physical aspects while male participants focused more on the social dimension. Different concerns were obvious across the three educational stages; accordingly, an educational approach was suggested to address these findings.

How the Health Rumor Misleads People's Perception in a Public Health Emergency: Lessons from a Purchase Craze during the COVID-19 Outbreak in China

Health rumors often mislead people and cause adverse health behaviors. Especially during a public health emergency, health rumors may result in severe consequences for people's health and risk governance. Insight into how these rumors form and harm people's health behavior is critical for assisting people in establishing scientific health cognition and to enhance public health emergency responses. Using the case study with interview data of a salient purchase craze led by a health rumor during the COVID-19 outbreak in China, this article aimed to illustrate the process of how a piece of information becomes a health rumor. Furthermore, we identify factors that cause people to believe rumors and conduct behavior that leads to a purchase craze. Results show that a public misunderstanding of the unique psychology of uncertainty, cultural and social cognition, and conformity behavior jointly informs people's beliefs in rumors and further causes purchase craze behavior. We developed a simplified model to demonstrate how an ordinary news report can lead to a rumor. Based on this model, some implications of effective health communication are suggested for managing rumors.
