Abstract
BACKGROUND Nursing practice is continuously evolving, requiring nurses to update their knowledge and skills. A common approach in nursing education is simulation-based training. Although its effectiveness was studied in a sample of undergraduate students, evidence of its effectiveness in nursing continuing education is lacking. This review examined the effectiveness of simulation-based instruction in advancing nursing proficiency in lifelong or continuing learning. METHOD Searches of EMBASE, MEDLINE via PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar were performed. Studies conducted between 2000 and 2023, focusing on postregistration or postlicensure nurses undergoing simulation-based training to improve their nursing proficiency, were considered for review. The quality of the studies was assessed using the transparency, accuracy, purpose, utility, propriety, accessibility, and specificity (TAPUPAS) criteria. Data were synthesized with narrative summaries. RESULTS A total of 14 studies with a total sample size of 1,204 nurses met the eligibility criteria. Studies showed that simulation-based instruction in nursing continuing education improves knowledge and skills. Some studies showed disagreements on the effectiveness of simulation-based training on other factors. CONCLUSION Embracing high-fidelity simulation in continuing education is crucial for advancing proficiency. Tailoring simulation scenarios to specific competency domains is recommended to address variations in outcomes. Policymakers are encouraged to integrate simulation into education policies and support ongoing research to refine best practices and align policies with evolving nursing needs. Abstract
BACKGROUND Stroke survivors have complex needs that necessitate the expertise and skill of well-trained healthcare professionals to provide effective rehabilitation and long-term support. Limited knowledge exists regarding the availability of specialized education and training programs specifically designed for nurses caring for stroke patients. AIM This review aims to assess the content and methods of training for nurses caring for stroke patients, examine its impact on both nurses and patients, and identify key facilitators and barriers to its implementation. METHODS We conducted a comprehensive scoping review by reviewing multiple databases, including PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, PsycINFO, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, ProQuest Dissertations and Theses, Google Scholar, and Cochrane databases. Data extraction and narrative synthesis were performed following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews guidelines. RESULTS Seventeen articles were included in this review. We found that education/training not only enhanced patients' self-care abilities, nursing outcomes, and satisfaction, but also had a positive impact on the knowledge, skills, and practices of nurses. The obstacles to education/training included feasibility and cost-effectiveness, while the driving factors were management support and participation, professional education/training, and controlled environment creation. CONCLUSIONS This review highlights the crucial role of education/training in enhancing stroke care provided by nurses. Effective education/training integrates various educational methods and management support to overcome implementation barriers and optimize clinical practice benefits. These findings indicate the necessity of universal and consistent stroke education/training for nurses to further improve patient outcomes in stroke care.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patient safety is an essential responsibility of nurses. However, newly graduated nurses experience patient safety incidents due to a lack of patient safety competency. In particular, intensive care unit nurses provide care to critical patients, making it difficult for new nurses to maintain patient safety. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the patient safety competency of newly graduated nurses working in the intensive care unit. OBJECTIVES To analyze the effects of a simulation-based training program on patient safety management on the patient safety competency, patient safety management activity, communication self-efficacy, and teamwork of newly graduated nurses working in an intensive care unit. DESIGN A quasi-experimental study. SETTINGS The study was conducted at a university in Korea. PARTICIPANTS A total of 44 newly graduated nurses working in the intensive care unit of a university hospital. METHODS A simulation-based training program on patient safety management was applied to the experimental group (n = 22), while only the usual hospital training program was used for the control group (n = 22). A structured questionnaire survey comprising Patient Safety Competency Self-Evaluation, Patient Safety Management Activities, the Korean version of the self-efficacy questionnaire, and K-self assessment of teamwork was conducted at baseline test (T1), post test (T2), and follow-up test (T3). Data were analyzed using a repeated measures ANOVA. RESULTS The experimental group showed significantly higher patient safety competency, patient safety knowledge, and patient safety skills, along with higher communication self-efficacy scores than the control group (p < .05) after the intervention and at four weeks after the intervention. CONCLUSIONS The simulation-based training program on patient safety management effectively improved the patient safety competency, patient safety knowledge, and patient safety skills as well as communication self-efficacy of newly graduated nurses working in an intensive care unit.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nurses working in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), due to the sensitivity and difficulty of tasks, need continuous and scientific training to be able to offer the best performance in difficult situations and use their knowledge in the best way. Also, nursing students spend internships in ICUs and receive special training in practice in the actual center. Educational tools based on new technologies can potentially improve the educational outcomes of nursing in ICUs. OBJECTIVES The present study aims to review and evaluate the effect of using technology-based educational tools for training critical care nurses and nursing students. METHODS A comprehensive search was conducted to identify peer-reviewed English language articles in Embase, Medline (through PubMed), Scopus, and ISI web of science published from 2010 to Feb 18, 2022. The studies that examined the effectiveness of technology-based educational interventions with control groups were included. The risk of bias in each study was assessed using the Cochrane Collaboration's tool. Also, we used Standard Mean Difference (SMD) to estimate the effect of technology-based educational tools on learning outcomes. All meta-analyses were performed with a random effects model in Stata Ver.16. RESULTS Altogether, ten studies were eligible for the quality assessment and systematic review, while one study that had not reported the pre-intervention analysis was excluded from the meta-analysis. Nine studies were considered to have a low RoB regarding reporting ways, and one of them showed a high risk. Performance and selection bias caused a high risk in six and five of the studies, respectively. In the meta-analysis, improvement in knowledge (SMD = 0.91), skills (SMD = 0.52), and self-confidence (SMD = 0.96) was noticed by applying technology-based educational tools. CONCLUSION It can be offered that if the learning method based on the new technologies tested is more effective than conventional teaching methods, they are likely to improve the learning outcome significantly. The new-developed tools also have great potential in improving health care functions among nurses or nursing students as well as enhancing the quality of life and patient satisfaction.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Improving nursing students' knowledge and clinical judgment related to mechanical ventilation (MV) is paramount, considering the heightened need for MV due to the current COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) pandemic. High-fidelity simulation (HFS) provides students with real-life clinical experiences that they would rarely confront in clinical training, especially complex case scenarios (such as a patient needing MV). PURPOSE This study assessed students' clinical knowledge and judgment after including HFS involving MV in an undergraduate nursing program. METHODS This was a quasi-experimental design with a convenience sample of 151 nursing students using the Lasater Clinical Judgment Rubric. RESULTS There were significant differences between the intervention and control groups in knowledge (t = 20.42; P = .001) and total clinical judgment scores (t = 19.55; P < .001) post-HFS. CONCLUSIONS Including a complex case study using MV and HFS significantly improved students' clinical decision-making, clinical knowledge, and self-confidence and enhanced their critical thinking, noticing, interpreting, reflecting, and responding capabilities.
