Abstract
The tumor-targeted drug delivery system (TTDNS) uses nanocarriers to transport chemotherapeutic agents to target tumor cells or tissues precisely. This innovative approach considerably increases the effective concentration of these drugs at the tumor site, thereby enhancing their therapeutic efficacy. Many chemotherapeutic agents face challenges, such as low bioavailability, high cytotoxicity, and inadequate drug resistance. To address these obstacles, TTDNS comprising natural polysaccharides have gained increasing popularity in the field of nanotechnology owing to their ability to improve safety, bioavailability, and biocompatibility while reducing toxicity. In addition, it enhances permeability and allows for controlled drug delivery and release. This review focuses on the sources of natural polysaccharides and their direct and indirect mechanisms of anti-tumor activity. We also explored the preparation of various polysaccharide-based nanocarriers, including nanoparticles, nanoemulsions, nanohydrogels, nanoliposomes, nanocapsules, nanomicelles, nanocrystals, and nanofibers. Furthermore, this review delves into the versatile applications of polysaccharide-based nanocarriers, elucidating their capabilities for in vivo targeting, controlled release, and responsiveness to endogenous and exogenous stimuli, such as pH, reactive oxygen species, glutathione, light, ultrasound, and magnetic fields. This sophisticated design substantially enhances the chemotherapeutic efficacy of the encapsulated drugs at tumor sites and provides a basis for preclinical and clinical research. However, the in vivo stability, drug loading, and permeability of these preparations into tumor tissues still need to be improved. Most of the currently developed biomarker-sensitive polysaccharide nanocarriers are still in the laboratory stage, more innovative delivery mechanisms and clinical studies are needed to develop commercial nanocarriers for medical use.

Abstract
Edible mushroom-derived polysaccharides (EMPs) have been widely used in foods, medicine, and cosmetics due to theirs' diverse and versatile biological activities. Currently, many conventional extraction methods for extracting EMPs are struggling to meet the growing demand, and the produced EMPs with poor quality and low bioactivity. Novel physical field (e.g., acoustic, electromagnetic, electrical, and mechanical field) processing technologies not only overcome the shortcomings of conventional extraction methods, but also improve the structural feature, bioactivity, and solution behavior of EMPs. Moreover, physical field-assisted techniques can induce the degradation or modification of EMPs, thereby effectively altering the physicochemical properties and structural features of EMPs to improve their bioactivities or processing properties. Therefore, a comprehensive review of physical field processing technologies such as ultrasound, high pressure, pulsed electric field, and microwave for extracting and modifying EMPs in recent years, is presented. In addition, recent advances in physical field-assisted extraction/degradation techniques for EMPs, as well as their mechanisms of action and synergistic effects, are discussed and summarized. In summary, this review provides a theoretical basis and practical guidance for the physical field processing technology in improving the extraction yield and quality of EMPs, as well as large-scale industrial production.

Abstract
Future food is dedicated to transforming the traditional production model of the food industry, making people and the planet healthier, and addressing the challenges facing humanity. The development of plant-based foods is one of the core contents of future food and an important way to achieve green and low-carbon development of the food industry. A prevailing food trend in the dairy industry is the demand to develop various plant-based alternatives to dairy products. Plant-based whipping cream is a complex emulsion-foam system that can be transformed from an oil-in-water emulsion structure to a triphasic (solid-liquid-gas) foam structure by whipping, which should achieve a subtle balance between emulsion stability, whipping destabilization, and foam re-stabilization. This review aims to understand the science and technology underlying the development of plant-based whipping cream. The initial focus is on the fundamental principle of stabilization and destabilization of plant-based whipping cream, as the development of successful products depends on understanding their physicochemical basis. Three main processing technologies for the manufacture of plant-based whipping cream are then introduced: homogenization, sterilization, and tempering. Besides that, the role of the basic ingredients in plant-based whipping cream is highlighted, including vegetable fats, plant proteins, low-molecular-weight emulsifiers, and thickeners. In order to quantify and compare the quality attributes of different plant-based whipping cream products under standardized conditions, we provide an overview of characterization methods to evaluate emulsion stability, whipping destabilization, and foam re-stabilization of plant-based whipping cream. Subsequently, the legislations and regulations related to plant-based whipping cream products are introduced to cater to their market development. Finally, the current challenges faced by plant-based whipping cream are highlighted. This review aims to provide a guidance for researchers and manufacturers in related industries.

Abstract
Due to its high viscoelasticity and positive health benefits, konjac glucomannan (KGM)-based mixed polysaccharide systems are widely applied in food processing and pharmaceuticals. However, a knowledge gap exists between the relationship between KGM interactions with different polysaccharides and the resulting food processing properties and health benefits. This review elaborately aims to address this research gap by analyzing the literature on the updated KGM-based binary thermodynamic compatibility systems, classified and discussed according to the basic gel models. Further fabrication and tailored strategies for improving gel properties and the resulting changes in food production and processing, nutrient digestion and absorption, and health benefits are explored. The development of future food should combine with structural food theory and colloidal nutrition based on soft condensed matter physics, intersected chemistry, biology, and engineering to achieve technological innovation.

Abstract
The low cost and environmental advantages of Xanthan gum make its production and application scale exceed that of other polysaccharides. However, the temperature resistance of Xanthan gum limits its application. In this study, polysaccharide supramolecular Xanthan gum network (XG-β-CD/AD) based on β-cyclodextrin and adamantane was prepared for enhanced oil recovery. The structure of Xanthan gum was characterized by Fourier infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis. The rheological properties of the modified polysaccharide network in aqueous solution were systematically studied. The results showed that physical cross-linking of host-guest interacion enhanced the thickening ability of the polymer. Shear rheology, extensional rheology and dynamic modulus test proved that XG-β-CD/AD had excellent rheological properties. The micromorphology, dynamic light scattering and circular dichroism clarified the molecular conformation, the host-guest interaction can improve conformational transition temperature (Tm) and inorganic salt tolerance of Xanthan gum. Under harsh environment (90 °C, 30000 mg/L brine), the oil recovery of XG-β-CD/AD is 6 %-11 % higher than that of XG at the same conditions, showing a better ability to improve the recovery rate. This study provides a research idea for the selection, development and application of biomacromolecular materials.

Abstract
During the development of green agriculture and pesticide use, "reducing pesticides use and improving control efficiency" is imperative. To date, new pesticide formulations created by nanotechnology can be expected to overcome the difficulties that cannot be solved by the traditional pesticide processes and make pesticide formulations close to the needs of green agricultural production. As natural polysaccharides, Xanthan gum (XG) charactered by a repeated units and side chain of d-glucose, d-mannose, and d-glucuronic acid, and thereby having the unprecedented features in response to wide practice in various fields. This review introduces the properties of the natural polymer XG and its current status of application in agriculture, focusing on the pesticide adjuvant and preparation of novel pesticide and fertilizer delivery systems (such as core-shell and hydrogel), and combined with the applications in mulch film and soil engineering. Furthermore, the properties of Xantho-oligosaccharides suitable for agriculture were discussed. Finally, the potential of XG for the creation of nanopesticides and its future prospects are highlighted. Taken together, XG's excellent performance endows it with a wide range of applications in the agriculture field, and result in strong stimulating the sustainable development of agriculture and evolution of agricultural industry.

Abstract
This study involved the preparation of nanoparticles by combining oxidized starch (OS) with xanthan gum (XG), and emulsions were prepared from this nanoparticle. The physical and chemical characteristics, as well as the emulsification properties of oxidized starch-xanthan gum composite nanoparticles (OGNP), were analyzed. The findings revealed that the OGNP retained spherical shape after the addition of XG, although their diameter increased from approximately 50-150 to 200-400 nm. Zeta potential decreased with XG content. Moreover, emulsions prepared from OGNP exhibited outstanding thermal stability, also showing enhanced storage stability. In addition, emulsions had different rheological properties at different pH values. The apparent viscosity and shear stress of emulsions under alkaline conditions were lower than that of neutral conditions. NaCl increased the apparent viscosity of OGNP-stabilized emulsions while reducing their thermal stability. The nanoparticles prepared in this study have efficient emulsification properties and can extend the application of OS.

Abstract
This review examines microbial polysaccharides' properties relevant to their use in packaging and pharmaceutical applications. Microbial polysaccharides are produced by enzymes found in the cell walls of microbes. Xanthan gum, curdlan gum, pullulan, and bacterial cellulose are high-molecular-weight substances consisting of sugar residues linked by glycoside bonds. These polysaccharides have linear or highly branched molecular structures. Packaging based on microbial polysaccharides is readily biodegradable and can be considered as a renewable energy source with the potential to reduce environmental impact. In addition, microbial polysaccharides have antioxidant and prebiotic properties. The physico-chemical properties of microbial polysaccharide-based films, including tensile strength and elongation at break, are also evaluated. These materials' potential as multifunctional packaging solutions in the food industry is demonstrated. In addition, their possible use in medicine as a drug delivery system is also considered.

Abstract
Xanthan gum is a microbial polysaccharide produced by Xanthomonas and widely used in various industries. To produce xanthan gum, the native Xanthomonas citri-386 was used in a cheese-whey-based culture medium. The culture conditions were investigated in batch experiments based on the response surface methodology to increase xanthan production and viscosity. Three independent variables in this study included feeding times of acetate, pyruvate, and citrate. The maximum xanthan gum production and viscosity within 120 h by X. citri-386 using Box-Behnken design were 25.7 g/l and 65 500 cP, respectively, with a 151% and 394% increase as compared to the control sample. Overall, the findings of this study recommend the use of X. citri-386 in the cheese-whey-based medium as an economical medium with optimal amounts of acetate, pyruvate, and citrate for commercial production of xanthan gum on an industrial scale. The adjustment of the pyruvate and acetate concentrations optimized xanthan gum production in the environment.

Abstract
This study presents a comparison between two hydrolysis systems (MnO2/H2O2 and ascorbic acid (VC)/H2O2) for the depolymerization of exopolysaccharide (EPS) from Lactobacillus plantarum LPC-1. Response surface methodology (RSM) was used to optimize these two degradation systems, resulting in two H2O2-free degradation products, MEPS (MnO2/H2O2-treated EPS) and VEPS (VC/H2O2-treated EPS), where H2O2 residues in the final products and their antioxidant activity were considered vital points. The relationship between the structural variations of two degraded polysaccharides and their antioxidant activity was characterized. Physicochemical tests showed that H2O2 had a notable impact on determining the total and reducing sugars in the polysaccharides, and both degradation systems efficiently eliminated this effect. After optimization, the average molecular weight of EPS was reduced from 265.75 kDa to 135.41 kDa (MEPS) and 113.11 kDa (VEPS), improving its antioxidant properties. Characterization results showed that the two hydrolysis products had similar major functional groups and monosaccharide composition as EPS. The crystal structure, main chain length, and branched chain number were crucial factors affecting the biological activity of polysaccharides. In pot testing, two degraded polysaccharides improved spinach quality more than EPS due to their lower molecular weights, suggesting the advantages of low-molecular-weight polysaccharides. In summary, these two degradation techniques offer valuable insights for further expanding the utilization of microbial resources.

Abstract
In recent years, there has been a burgeoning interest in the utilization of microbial exopolysaccharides (EPS) because of the added advantage of their renewable, biocompatible, and biodegradable nature in addition to intended applications. The endowed properties of bacterial EPS make them valuable candidates for a wide array of industrial applications. Modification of native EPS is known to enhance various physico-chemical and functional properties. Various modifications such as physical, chemical, biological, and enzymatic modifications were practiced improving the bioactivity of EPS. This paper comprehensively aims to review the most recent chemical modification techniques employed to modify the physico-chemical and functional changes of bacterial EPS in comparison with the unmodified forms. Chemical modification entails strategic alterations to the structure and properties of EPS through various synthetic and semi-synthetic methodologies. Emphasis is given to the antioxidant potential and functional role of these EPS derivatives in human health. Antioxidant properties reveal a significant augmentation in activity compared to their native counterparts. Such enhancement holds a strong promise for potential benefits and therapeutic applications. Chemical derivatives of EPS with overwhelming functional benefits could surely encourage EPS application, particularly as potential hydrocolloids in industrial and biomedical contexts.

Abstract
Tissue repair and regeneration are critical processes for maintaining the integrity and function of various organs and tissues. Recently, polysaccharide materials and protein materials have garnered interest for use in tissue repair strategies. However, polysaccharides are more stable and unaffected by temperature and pH changes compared to proteins, and some polysaccharides can provide stronger mechanical support, which is particularly important for constructing tissue-engineered scaffolds and wound dressings. This Review provides an in-depth overview of the origins of polysaccharides, the advantages of polysaccharide materials, and processing and design strategies. In addition, the potential of polysaccharide materials for the restoration of tissues such as skin, heart, and nerves is highlighted. Finally, we discuss in depth the challenges that polysaccharide materials still face in tissue repair, such as the stability of the material, regulating mechanical characteristics and deterioration rates under different conditions. To achieve more effective tissue repair and regeneration, future research must focus on further improving the characteristics and functionalities of polysaccharide materials.

Abstract
The antifungal agent, ketoconazole, and the anti-inflammatory drug, piroxicam, were incorporated into matrices of xanthan or oleic acid-esterified xanthan (Xn) and polyurethane (PU), to develop topical drug delivery systems. Compared to matrices without bioactive compounds, which only showed a nominal compressive stress of 32.18 kPa (sample xanthan-polyurethane) at a strain of 71.26%, the compressive resilience of the biomaterials increased to nearly 50.04 kPa (sample xanthan-polyurethane-ketoconazole) at a strain of 71.34%. The compressive strength decreased to around 30.67 kPa upon encapsulating a second drug within the xanthan-polyurethane framework (sample xanthan-polyurethane-piroxicam/ketoconazole), while the peak sustainable strain increased to 87.21%. The Weibull model provided the most suitable fit for the drug release kinetics. Unlike the materials based on xanthan-polyurethane, those made with oleic acid-esterified xanthan-polyurethane released the active ingredients more slowly (the release rate constant showed lower values). All the materials demonstrated antimicrobial effectiveness. Furthermore, a higher volume of piroxicam was released from oleic acid-esterified xanthan-polyurethane-piroxicam (64%) as compared to xanthan-polyurethane-piroxicam (44%). Considering these results, materials that include polyurethane and either modified or unmodified xanthan showed promise as topical drug delivery systems for releasing piroxicam and ketoconazole.

Abstract
Graft copolymerization is an effective approach to improve performance of polysaccharide. However, selecting the most suitable modification strategy can be challenging due to the intricate molecular structure. Rational design through computer aided molecular dynamics (MD) simulations requires substantial computational resources. This study designed a simplified MD simulation strategy and suggested that grafting acrylamide (AM) could effectively adjust the molecular conformation of xanthan gum (XG) and its derivatives, thus regulating its viscosity and gelation properties. To rationally modify XG, a uniform experimental design was applied to tune the grafting ratios ranging from 72 % to 360 %, resulting in XG-AM solutions with viscosity ranging from 9 to 104 mPa•s at a concentration of 0.3 %. XG-AM was crosslinked by acid phenolic resin to generate gel with the viscosity of 7890 mPa·s in 3 days, which was 13 times the viscosity of unmodified XG. The controllable gelation will enhance the efficacy of XG-AM in oil recovery. By integrating rational selection of grafting strategies based on simplified MD simulation of polysaccharide derivatives and controllable grafting modification with specified grafting rates, customized production of polysaccharide derivatives can meet the requirements of a diverse range of applications.

Abstract
In this study, the effect of hydrothermal treatment with different temperatures (120-180 °C) on the rheological properties of xanthan gum was evaluated. When the temperature of hydrothermal treatment was relatively low (120 °C), the rheological properties of the hydrothermally treated xanthan gum was similar to the untreated xanthan gum (pseudoplastic and solid-like/gel-like behavior). However, as the temperature of hydrothermal treatment was higher, the rheological properties of the hydrothermally treated xanthan gum changed greatly (e.g., a wider range of Newtonian plateaus in flow curves, existence of a critical frequency between the storage modulus (G') and the loss modulus (G") in the dynamic viscoelasticity measurement, variation of complex viscosity). Although the hydrothermal treatment showed little influence on the functional groups of xanthan gum, it altered the micromorphology of xanthan gum from uneven and rough lump-like to thinner and smoother flake-like. In addition, higher concentration (2 %) of hydrothermally treated xanthan gum made its viscosity close to that of the untreated xanthan gum (1 %). Besides, hydrothermal treatment also affected the effect of temperature and salt (CaCl2) adding on the rheological properties of xanthan gum. Overall, this study can provide some useful information on the rheological properties of xanthan gum after hydrothermal treatment.

Abstract
Gums are high-molecular-weight compounds with hydrophobic or hydrophilic characteristics, which are mainly comprised of complex carbohydrates called polysaccharides, often associated with proteins and minerals. Various innovative modification techniques are utilized, including ultrasound-assisted and microwave-assisted techniques, enzymatic alterations, electrospinning, irradiation, and amalgamation process. These methods advance the process, reducing processing times and energy consumption while maintaining the quality of the modified gums. Enzymes like xanthan lyases, xanthanase, and cellulase can selectively modify exudate gums, altering their structure to enhance their properties. This precise enzymatic approach allows for the use of exudate gums for specific applications. Exudate gums have been employed in nanotechnology applications through techniques like electrospinning. This enables the production of nanoparticles and nanofibers with improved properties, making them suitable for the drug delivery system, tissue engineering, active and intelligient food packaging. The resulting modified exudate gums exhibit improved rheological, emulsifying, gelling, and other functional properties, which expand their potential applications. This paper discusses novel applications of these modified gums in the pharmaceutical, food, and industrial sectors. The ever-evolving field presents diverse opportunities for sustainable innovation across these sectors.

Abstract
Traumatic multidrug-resistant bacterial infections are the most threat to wound healing. Lower extremity wounds under diabetic conditions display a significant delay during the healing process. To overcome these challenges, the utilization of protein-based nanocomposite dressings is crucial in implementing a successful regenerative medicine approach. These dressings hold significant potential as polymer scaffolds, allowing them to mimic the properties of the extracellular matrix (ECM). So, the objective of this study was to develop a nanocomposite film using dialdehyde-xanthan gum/soy protein isolate incorporated with propolis (PP) and halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) (DXG-SPI/PP/HNTs). In this protein-polysaccharide hybrid system, the self-healing capability was demonstrated through Schiff bonds, providing a favorable environment for cell encapsulation in the field of tissue engineering. To improve the properties of the DXG-SPI film, the incorporation of polyphenols found in PP, particularly flavonoids, is proposed. The synthesized films were subjected to investigations regarding degradation, degree of swelling, and mechanical characteristics. Additionally, halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) were introduced into the DXG-SPI/PP nanocomposite films as a reinforcing filler with varying concentrations of 3 %, 5 %, and 7 % by weight. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis confirmed the proper embedding and dispersion of HNTs onto the DXG-SPI/PP nanocomposite films, leading to functional interfacial interactions. The structure and crystallinity of the synthesized nanocomposite films were characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometry (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD), respectively. Moreover, the developed DXG-SPI/PP/HNTs nanocomposite films significantly improved cell growth of NIH-3T3 fibroblast cells in the presence of PP and HNTs, indicating their cytocompatibility. The antibacterial activity of the nanocomposite was evaluated against Escherichia coli (E. Coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. Aureus), which are commonly associated with wound infections. Overall, our findings suggest that the synthesis of DXG-SPI/PP/HNTs nanocomposite scaffolds holds great promise as a clinically relevant biomaterial and exhibits strong potential for numerous challenging biomedical applications.

Abstract
Xanthan gum is commonly used in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food industries. However, there have been no studies on utilizing this natural biopolymer as a foam material in the insulation and packaging sectors, which are large markets, or modeling it using an artificial neural network. In this study, foam material production was carried out in an oven using different ratios of cellulose fiber and xanthan gum in a 5% citric acid medium. As a result of the physical and mechanical experiments conducted, it was determined that xanthan gum had a greater impact on the properties of the foam material than cellulose. The densities of the produced foam materials ranged from 49.42 kg/m3 to 172.2 kg/m3. In addition, the compressive and flexural moduli were found to vary between 235.25 KPa and 1257.52 KPa and between 1939.76 KPa and 12,736.39 KPa, respectively. Five machine-learning-based methods (multiple linear regression, support vector machines, artificial neural networks, least squares methods, and generalized regression neural networks) were utilized to analyze the effects of the components used in the foam formulation. These models yielded accurate results without time, material, or cost losses, making the process more efficient. The models predicted the best results for density, compression modulus, and flexural modulus achieved in the experimental tests. The generalized regression neural network model yielded impressive results, with R2 values above 0.97, enabling the acquisition of more quantitative data with fewer experimental results.

Abstract
The extracellular heteropolysaccharide xanthan, synthesized by bacteria of the genus Xanthomonas, is widely used as a thickening and stabilizing agent across the food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical sectors. Expanding the scope of its application, current efforts target the use of xanthan to develop innovative functional materials and products, such as edible films, eco-friendly oil surfactants, and biocompatible composites for tissue engineering. Xanthan-derived oligosaccharides are useful as nutritional supplements and plant defense elicitors. Development and processing of such new functional materials and products often necessitate tuning of xanthan properties through targeted structural modification. This task can be effectively carried out with the help of xanthan-specific enzymes. However, the complex molecular structure and intricate conformational behavior of xanthan create problems with its enzymatic hydrolysis or modification. This review summarizes and analyzes data concerning xanthan-degrading enzymes originating from microorganisms and microbial consortia, with a particular focus on the dependence of enzymatic activity on the structure and conformation of xanthan. Through a comparative study of xanthan-degrading pathways found within various bacterial classes, different microbial enzyme systems for xanthan utilization have been identified. The characterization of these new enzymes opens new perspectives for modifying xanthan structure and developing innovative xanthan-based applications. Abstract
Recently, instead of creating new active compounds, scientists have been working to increase the bioavailability and residence time of existing drugs by modifying the characteristics of the delivery systems. In the present study, a novel mucoadhesive bioconjugate (SN-XG-SH) was synthesized by functionalizing a polysaccharide xanthan gum (XG) with cysteamine hydrochloride (CYS) and a lipid stearylamine (SN). FTIR, CHNS and 1H NMR studies confirmed the successful synthesis of SN-XG-SH. Mucoadhesion of the thiolated XG was enhanced and evaluated by different methods. Disulfide bond formation between thiolated XG and skin mucus enhances mucoadhesive behavior. The mucoadhesive bioconjugate was used to prepare nanoparticles for the delivery of hydrophobic biochanin-A (Bio-A) for the treatment of melanoma. The thiolated xanthan gum nanoparticles also demonstrated high drug entrapment efficiency, sustained drug release, and high storage stability. The drug loaded nanoparticles (Bio-A@TXNPs) significantly improved the cytotoxicity of Bio-A against human epidermoid cancer cells (A431 cells) by inducing apoptosis and changing mitochondrial membrane potential. In conclusion, thiolation of XG improves its mucoadhesive properties and prolongs the release of Bio-A. Thus, thiolated XG conjugate has a high potential for use as a bioadhesive agent in controlled and localised delivery of drugs in different skin diseases including melanoma.

Abstract
Zein has gained popularity over the past few years as an incredible food and bio-based materials. The potential functions and health benefits of zein microcapsules or micro-/nanoparticles in bioactive components delivery, structured emulsion, etc., have received great attention. However, the development has been limited by colloidal destabilization, especially when thermal processing is involved. There is a recent trend in developing zein-polysaccharide complexes (ZPCs), which has tremendously improved the performance of zein-based colloidal carrier systems or emulsions. Increasing our understanding of zein interactions and their contribution to the structure of various macromolecules can help us to develop novel biomaterials that can be used in food, agriculture, biomedicine, and cosmetics. In addition, these nanocarriers are suitable for the encapsulation and delivery of bioactive compounds which have positive perspective in food industry. Therefore, this article aimed to review recent advances in the ZPCs that can be applied to functional or health-promoting foods, with a focus on the characteristics of different ZPCs, factors and mechanisms affecting the stability (especially thermal stability) of these complexes, and their application in food industry as a carrier for BCs. Further, the stability of ZPCs based emulsions under processing and physiological environments, as well some typical effective methods are introduced. Also, the principal challenges and prospects were enumerated and discussed.

Abstract
An effective method for synthesizing acridinedione derivatives using a xanthan gum (XG), Thiacalix[4]arene (TC4A), and iron oxide nanoparticles (IONP) have been employed to construct a stable composition, which is named Thiacalix[4]arene-Xanthan Gum@ Iron Oxide Nanoparticles (TC4A-XG@IONP). The process used to fabricate this nanocatalyst includes the in-situ magnetization of XG, its amine modification by APTES to get NH2-XG@IONP hydrogel, the synthesis of TC4A, its functionalization with epichlorohydrine, and eventually its covalent attachment onto the NH2-XG@IONP hydrogel. The structure of the TC4A-XG@IONP was characterized by different analytical methods including Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, X-Ray diffraction analysis (XRD), Energy Dispersive X-Ray, Thermal Gravimetry analysis, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope and Vibration Sample Magnetomete. With magnetic saturation of 9.10 emu g-1 and ~ 73% char yields, the TC4As-XG@IONP catalytic system demonstrated superparamagnetic property and high thermal stability. The magnetic properties of the TC4A-XG@IONP nanocatalyst system imparted by IONP enable it to be conveniently isolated from the reaction mixture by using an external magnet. In the XRD pattern of the TC4As-XG@IONP nanocatalyst, characteristic peaks were observed. This nanocatalyst is used as an eco-friendly, heterogeneous, and green magnetic catalyst in the synthesis of acridinedione derivatives through the one-pot pseudo-four component reaction of dimedone, various aromatic aldehydes, and ammonium acetate or aniline/substituted aniline. A combination of 10 mg of catalyst (TC4A-XG@IONP), 2 mmol of dimedone, and 1 mmol of aldehyde at 80 °C in a ethanol at 25 mL round bottom flask, the greatest output of acridinedione was 92% in 20 min.This can be attributed to using TC4A-XG@IONP catalyst with several merits as follows: high porosity (pore volume 0.038 cm3 g-1 and Pore size 9.309 nm), large surface area (17.306 m2 g-1), three dimensional structures, and many catalytic sites to active the reactants. Additionally, the presented catalyst could be reused at least four times (92-71%) with little activity loss, suggesting its excellent stability in this multicomponent reaction. Nanocatalysts based on natural biopolymers in combination with magnetic nanoparticles and macrocycles may open up new horizons for researchers in the field.

Abstract
Polysaccharides are natural chemical compounds that are extensively employed in the food and pharmaceutical industries. They exhibit a wide range of physical and biological properties. These properties are commonly improved by using chemical and physical methods. However, with the advancement of biotechnology and increased demand for green, clean, and safe products, polysaccharide modification via microbial fermentation has gained importance in improving their physicochemical and biological activities. The physicochemical and structural characteristics, biological activity, and modification mechanisms of microbially fermented polysaccharides were reviewed and summarized in this study. Polysaccharide modifications were categorized and discussed in terms of strains and fermentation techniques. The effects of microbial fermentation on the physicochemical characteristics of polysaccharides were highlighted. The impact of modification of polysaccharides on their antioxidant, immune, hypoglycemic, and other activities, as well as probiotic digestive enhancement, were also discussed. Finally, we investigated a potential enzyme-based process for polysaccharide modification via microbial fermentation. Modification of polysaccharides via microbial fermentation has significant value and application potential.

Abstract
A conductive cotton hydrogel with graphene and ions can come into contact with electrodes in solid electrolytes at the molecular level, leading to a more efficient electrochemical process in supercapacitors. The inherently soft nature of cotton mixed with hydrogel provides superior flexibility of the electrolyte, which benefits the devices in gaining high flexibility. Herein, we report on the current progress in solid-state hydrogel electrolytes based on 3D pure cotton/graphene and present an overview of the future direction of research. The ionic conductivity of a complex hydrogel significantly increased by up to 13.9 × 10-3 S/cm at 25 °C, due to the presence of graphene, which increases ionic conductivity by providing a smooth pathway for the transport of charge carriers and the polymer. Furthermore, the highest specific capacitance of 327 F/g at 3 mV/s was achieved with cyclic voltammetry measurement and a galvanostatic charge-discharge measurement showed a peak value of 385.4 F/g at 100 mA/g current density. Furthermore, an electrochemical analysis demonstrated that a composite cotton/graphene-based hydrogel electrolyte is electrically stable and could be used for the design of next-generation supercapacitors.

Abstract
Currently, a large number of scientific articles can be found in the research literature in the field focusing on the use of oleogels for food formulation to improve their nutritional properties. The present review focuses on the most representative food-grade oleogels, highlighting current trends in terms of the most suitable methods of analysis and characterization, as well as trends in their application as substitutes for saturated and trans fats in foods. For this purpose, the physicochemical properties, structure, and composition of some oleogelators are primarily discussed, along with the adequacy of oleogel incorporation for use in edible products. Analysis and characterization of oleogels by different methods are important in the formulation of innovative foods, and therefore, this review discusses the most recent published results regarding their microstructure, rheological and textural properties, and oxidative stability. Last but not least, issues related to the sensory properties of oleogel-based foods are discussed, highlighting also the consumer acceptability of some of them.

Abstract
Bio-based polymers have better salt and temperature tolerance than most synthetic polymers. The biopolymer solutions have high viscosity, which can lead to reducing the fingering effect and soaring the oil recovery rate. This work aims to produce and characterize a biopolymer from Pseudomonas Atacamensis M7D1 strain, modify the biopolymer yield using Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) powder as an outer tension in the growth medium, and finally, evaluate the produced biopolymer function for Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) purposes. Using PCBs powder to trigger bacteria for higher production yield increases the biopolymer production rate eleven times higher than pure growth medium without additives. Different analyses were performed on the biopolymer to characterize its properties; Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) indicated that the produced biopolymer has an average molecular weight of 3.6 × 105 g/mol. This macromolecule has high thermal resistivity and can tolerate high temperatures. Thermal analysis (TGA/DSC) shows only 69.27 % mass lost from 25 °C to 500 °C. The viscosity of 0.5 wt% biopolymer solution equals 3cp, 3 times higher than water. The glass micromodel flooding result shows that biopolymer solution with 0.5 wt% concentration has a 38 % recovery rate which is 21 % higher than water flooding.

Abstract
To date, due to the low accessibility of enzymes to xanthan substrates, the enzymolysis of xanthan remains deficient, which hinders the industrial production of functional oligoxanthan. To enhance the enzymatic affinity against xanthan, the essential role of two carbohydrate binding modules—MiCBMx and PspCBM84, respectively, derived from Microbacterium sp. XT11 and Paenibacillus sp. 62047—in catalytic properties of endotype xanthanase MiXen were investigated for the first time. Basic characterizations and kinetic parameters of different recombinants revealed that, compared with MiCBMx, PspCBM84 dramatically increased the thermostability of endotype xanthanase, and endowed the enzyme with higher substrate affinity and catalytic efficiency. Notably, the activity of endotype xanthanase was increased by 16 times after being fused with PspCBM84. In addition, the presence of both CBMs obviously enabled endotype xanthanase to produce more oligoxanthan, and xanthan digests prepared by MiXen-CBM84 showed better antioxidant activity due to the higher content of active oligosaccharides. The results of this work lay a foundation for the rational design of endotype xanthanase and the industrial production of oligoxanthan in the future.

Abstract
Sphingan WL gum (WL), a kind of exopolysaccharide, is produced by Sphingomonas sp. WG, which was screened from sea mud samples of Jiaozhou Bay by our group. The solubility of WL was investigated in this work. First, 1 mg/mL of WL solution was stirred at room temperature for at least 2 h to obtain a uniform opaque liquid, and further the solution became clear with the increased NaOH and stirring time. Subsequently, the structural features, solubility, and rheological properties of WL before and after alkali treatment were compared systematically. FTIR, NMR, and zeta potential results indicate that the alkali causes acetyl group hydrolysis and carboxyl group deprotonation. XRD, DLS, GPC, and AFM results suggest that the alkali destroys the ordered arrangement and inter- and intrachain entanglement of polysaccharide chains. In the same case, 0.9 M NaOH-treated WL presents better solubility (stirring for 15 min to obtain a clarified solution) but, unsurprisingly, worsens rheological properties. All results demonstrated that the good solubility and transparency of alkali-treated WL will help promote its postmodification and application.

Abstract
This work is an effort to first introduce plant-based gums and discussing their drug delivery applications. The composition of these plant gums and their major characteristics, which make them suitable as pharmaceutical excipients are also described in detail. The various modifications methods such as physical and chemical modifications of gums and polysaccharides have been discussed along with their applications in different fields. Consequently, plant-based gums modification such as etherification and grafting is attracting much scientific attention to satisfy industrial demand. The evaluation tests to characterize gum-based drug delivery systems have been summarized. The release behavior of drug from plant-gum-based drug delivery is being discussed. Thus, this review is an attempt to critically summarize different aspect of plant-gum-based polysaccharides to be utilized in drug delivery systems having potential industrial applications.

Synthesis and characterization of hydrogel-based magnetite nanocomposite adsorbents for the potential removal of Acid Orange 10 dye and Cr(VI) ions from aqueous solution. Abstract
Magnetic responsive hydrogels (CMX-cl-P4VP/M-NPs) were successfully synthesized through in situ co-precipitation procedure and investigated using various techniques. The surface morphology analysis revealed that the M-NPs were uniformly distributed within the hydrogel matrix and had average sizes ranging from 4.98 to 15.02 nm. The graft copolymer containing nanoparticles exhibited a sensitive magnetic response, and their recovery could be facilitated by applying a magnetic field. The purpose of this research is to study the ability of the prepared magnetic hydrogel to remove AO-10 dye and hexavalent chromium ions (Cr(VI)) from the aqueous solution under various factors, namely contact time, pH, amount of adsorbent, coexisting ions and AO-10 and Cr(VI) concentrations. The outcomes of the batch adsorption demonstrated that the adsorbent hydrogel incorporated with a low percentage (10 %) of M-NPs had a strong affinity for the removal of AO-10 dye and Cr(VI) ions at an optimum pH = 3, and the removal percentage reached 99.3 and 97.4 % for 500 mg L-1 and 300 mg L-1 of AO-10 dye and Cr(VI) ions within 90, 50 min, respectively. The data were well-fitted by pseudo-first-order kinetics. The maximum adsorption capacities of AO-10 dye and Cr(VI) ions onto adsorbent were 2448 and 574.7 mg g-1 at 298 K, calculated from the Langmuir model.

Abstract
Acetylated polysaccharides refer to polysaccharides containing acetyl groups on sugar units. In the past, the acetylation modification of wall polysaccharides has been a hot research topic for scientists. However, in recent years, many studies have reported that acetylation-modified plant, animal, and microbial polysaccharide show great potential in delivery systems. From the latest perspective, this review systematically presents the different sources of naturally acetylated polysaccharides, the regularity of their modification, the chemical preparation of acetylation modifications, the biological activities and functions of acetylated polysaccharides, and the application in the delivery system. In nature, acetylated polysaccharides are extensively distributed in plants, microorganism, and animals. The level of acetylation modification, the distribution of chains, and the locations of acetylation modification sites differ between species. An increasing number of acetylated polysaccharides were prepared in the aqueous medium, which is safe, environment friendly, and low-cost. In addition to being necessary for plant growth and development, acetylated polysaccharides have immunomodulatory, antioxidant, and anticancer properties. The above-mentioned multiple sources, multifunctional and multi-active acetylated polysaccharides, make them an increasingly important part of delivery systems. We conclude by discussing the future directions for research and development and the potential uses for acetylated polysaccharides.

Abstract
Encapsulation in agriculture today is practically focused on agrochemicals such as pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, or fertilizers to enhance the protective or nutritive aspects of the entrapped active ingredients. However, one of the most promising and environmentally friendly technologies, biostimulants, is hardly explored in this field. Encapsulation of biostimulants could indeed be an excellent means of counteracting the problems posed by their nature: they are easily biodegradable, and most of them run off through the soil, losing most of the compounds, thus becoming inaccessible to plants. In this respect, encapsulation seems to be a practical and profitable way to increase the stability and durability of biostimulants under field conditions. This review paper aims to provide researchers working on plant biostimulants with a quick overview of how to get started with encapsulation. Here we describe different techniques and offer protocols and suggestions for introduction to polymer science to improve the properties of biostimulants for future agricultural applications.

Abstract
Modified xanthan produced by xanthan lyase has broad application prospects in the food industry. However, the catalytic performance of xanthan lyase still needs to be improved through rational design. To address this problem, in this work, the glycosylation and its influences on the catalytic performance of a xanthan lyase (EcXly), which was heterologously expressed in Escherichia coli, were reported. Liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry analysis revealed that the N599 site of EcXly was modified by a single N-glycan chain. Based on sequence alignment and three-dimensional structure prediction, it could be deduced that the N599 site was located in the catalytic domain of EcXly and in close proximity to the catalytic residues. After site-directed mutagenesis of N599 with alanine, aspartic acid and glycine, respectively, the EcXly and its mutants were characterized and compared. The results demonstrated that elimination of the N-glycosylation had diminished the specific activity, pH stability, and substrate affinity of EcXly. Fluorescence spectra further revealed that the glycosylation could significantly affect the overall tertiary structure of EcXly. Therefore, in prokaryotic hosts, the N-glycosylation could influence the catalytic performance of the enzyme by changing its structure. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report about the post-translational modification of xanthan lyase in prokaryotes. Overall, our work enriched research on the role of glycan chains in the functional performance of proteins expressed in prokaryotes and should be valuable for the rational design of xanthan lyase to produce modified xanthan for industrial application.

Abstract
Biosorption is considered an effective technique for the treatment of heavy-metal-bearing wastewaters. In recent years, various biogenic products, including native and functionalized biopolymers, have been successfully employed in technologies aiming for the environmentally sustainable immobilization and removal of heavy metals at contaminated sites, including two commercially available heteropolysaccharides-xanthan and gellan. As biodegradable and non-toxic fermentation products, xanthan and gellan have been successfully tested in various remediation techniques. Here, to highlight their prospects as green adsorbents for water decontamination, we have reviewed their biosynthesis machinery and chemical properties that are linked to their sorptive interactions, as well as their actual performance in the remediation of heavy metal contaminated waters. Their sorptive performance in native and modified forms is promising; thus, both xanthan and gellan are emerging as new green-based materials for the cost-effective and efficient remediation of heavy metal-contaminated waters.

Abstract
FucoPol is an acylated polysaccharide with demonstrated valuable functional properties that include a shear thinning fluid behaviour, a film-forming capacity, and an emulsion forming and stabilizing capacity. In this study, the different conditions (concentration, temperature, and time) for alkaline treatment were investigated to deacylate FucoPol. Complete deacetylation and desuccinylation was achieved with 0.02 M NaOH, at 60 °C for 15 min, with no significant impact on the biopolymer’s sugar composition, pyruvate content, and molecular mass distribution. FucoPol depyruvylation by acid hydrolysis was attempted, but it resulted in a very low polymer recovery. The effect of the ionic strength, pH, and temperature on the deacetylated/desuccinylated polysaccharide, d-FucoPol, was evaluated, as well as its emulsion and film-forming capacity. d-FucoPol aqueous solutions maintained the shear thinning behaviour characteristic of FucoPol, but the apparent viscosity decreased significantly. Moreover, contrary to FucoPol, whose solutions were not affected by the media’s ionic strength, the d-FucoPol solutions had a significantly higher apparent viscosity for a higher ionic strength. On the other hand, the d-FucoPol solutions were not affected by the pH in the range of 3.6–11.5, while FucoPol had a decreased viscosity for acidic pH values and for a pH above 10.5. Although d-FucoPol displayed an emulsification activity for olive oil similar to that of FucoPol (98 ± 0%) for an oil-to-water ratio of 2:3, the emulsions were less viscous. The d-FucoPol films were flexible, with a higher Young′s modulus (798 ± 152 MPa), a stress at the break (22.5 ± 2.5 MPa), and an elongation at the break (9.3 ± 0.7%) than FucoPol (458 ± 32 MPa, 15.5 ± 0.3 MPa and 8.1 ± 1.0%, respectively). Given these findings, d-FucoPol arises as a promising novel biopolymer, with distinctive properties that may render it useful for utilization as a suspending or emulsifier agent, and as a barrier in coatings and packaging films.

Abstract
The search for renewable resources that can replace petroleum products is not only nerve-wracking, but also perplexing, as there is an abundance of plants that have yet to be explored. In this project, virgin castor oil was converted to polyol in two steps: epoxidation and hydroxylation. The resulting polyol was used to synthesize two series of water-borne polyurethane dispersions (WPUDs). The effects of the diisocyanates on the final product were evaluated. Isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) and dicyclohexylmethane-4,4'-diisocyanate (H12MDI) were used as the hard segment (HS) up to 72 wt%, along with 1-4 butanediol (BD) as the chain extender, for the dispersions. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) confirmed the bonds required for the synthesis of the dispersions. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) showed the multistep degradation for both series: maximum degradation took place at 500 °C for IPDI and 600 °C for H12MDI-based series. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed phase-segmented morphology. Hemolytic activity was observed at biologically safe levels of up to 7.5% for H12MDI-based series. Inhibition of biofilm formation showed comparable results against Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus): up to 46%. The results were also confirmed by phase contrast microscopy.

Abstract
Bone healing is a complex process that requires the participation of cells and bioactive factors. Stromal derived factor-1 α (SDF-1α) and magnesium ions (Mg2+) both are significant bioactive factors for cell recruitment and osteogenesis during bone regeneration. Thus, a bifunctional hydrogel containing a sequential delivery system is fabricated to improve osteogenesis. During sequential delivery of the hydrogel, SDF-1α is predominantly released at the early stage of bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) recruitment, while Mg2+ are constantly delivered at a later stage to improve osteogenic differentiation of recruited cells. In addition, due to the early release of SDF-1α, the hydrogel showed strong BMSCs recruitment and proliferation activity. Mg2+ can not only induce up-regulation of osteogenic gene expression in vitro, but also promote bone tissue and angiogenesis in vivo. Taken together, the injection of xanthan gum-polydopamine crosslinked hydrogel co-loading SDF-1α and Mg2+ (XPMS hydrogel) provides a novel strategy to repair bone defects.

Abstract
A molecular weight (Mw) controllable degradation strategy using the lyase WelR as the efficient tool was established, and the relationship between the Mw and the rheological properties and antioxidant activity of WL gum was systematically investigated. Four different WL samples WL1-WL4 with a gradient Mw change (from 4.70 × 106 to 1.45 × 106 Da) were obtained by controlling the enzymatic reaction conditions. As the Mw decreased, its apparent viscosity, intrinsic viscosity, viscous modulus (G″) and elastic modulus (G') decreased. More interestingly, in contrast to the native WL, the G″ of the degraded WL became higher than G'. Besides, the biodegraded WL samples possessed much higher hydroxyl radicals scavenging activity than the original WL. WL4 with the lowest Mw showed the highest HO radical scavenging activity, about 94.65% at 1 mg/mL. This work provided a useful method to obtain a series of WL samples with controllable Mw and properties, which will broaden the application of sphingans.
