Abstract
Stroke and cancer are disabling diseases with an enormous global burden, disproportionately affecting vulnerable populations and low- and middle-income countries. Both these diseases share common risk factors, which warrant concerted attention toward reshaping population health approaches and the conducting of fundamental studies. In this article, an overview of epidemiological trends in the prevalence and burden of cancer and stroke, underlying biological mechanisms and clinical risk factors, and various tools available for risk prediction and prognosis are provided. Finally, future recommendations for research and existing gaps in our understanding of pathophysiology. Further research must investigate the causes that predispose patients to an increased risk of stroke and/or cancer, as well as biomarkers that can be used to predict growing morbidity and mortality.

Myocardial Infarction after Long-Term Treatment with a Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitor (TKI) with Anti-VEGF Receptor Activity. Case Rep Endocrinol 2019; 2019:7927450. Abstract
TKIs including anti-VEGF receptor activity have been approved for the treatment of patients with radioiodine resistant thyroid carcinomas. For lenvatinib arterial thromboembolic events are listed as adverse events of special interest with lenvatinib. In the phase III study, arterial thromboembolic events were reported in 3% of lenvatinib-treated patients and 1% in the placebo group. Most of the patients had predisposing factors. Only one myocardial infarct was reported in the lenvatinib phase III study. We report a 73-year-old female patient with metastatic thyroid papillary carcinoma who was treated with total thyroidectomy. The operation was followed by four radioiodine therapies over a period of 6 years. At 6 years she developed lung metastasis without radioiodine uptake, one solitary liver metastasis and one solitary right renal metastasis. One year after the first diagnosis of radioiodine resistant lung metastasis the lung metastasis showed progression according to RECIST criteria. This treatment was resulting in prolonged partial response with disappearance of a hepatic and renal metastasis. A myocardial infarction occurred after 39 months of lenvatinib treatment resulting in implantation of 3 stents and a two chamber pacemaker. The treatment was discontinued. Except for well controlled hypertension there were neither predisposing diseases like diabetes nor symptoms of cardiac ischemia on exertion. However, the family history for cardiovascular diseases was positive for cardiac infarction reported for one brother. Another brother was treated for hypertension and the patient's mother suffered from a cerebral infarction at the age of 60. While only one myocardial infarct was reported in the lenvatinib phase III study with 392 patients this case suggests that long-term treatment with lenvatinib may be associated with an increased risk for myocardial infarct also in patients with no predisposing diseases except well controlled hypertension and positive family history for cardiovascular diseases.

Abstract
The great therapeutical success achieved by oncology is counterbalanced by growing evidences of cardiovascular (CV) toxicity due to many antineoplastic treatments. Cardiac adverse events may cause premature discontinuation of effective oncologic treatments or occur as late events undermining the oncologic success. Arterial hypertension is both the most common comorbidity in cancer patients and a frequent adverse effect of anticancer therapies. A pre-existing hypertension is known to increase the risk of other cardiac adverse events due to oncologic treatments, in particular heart failure. Moreover, as a strict association between cancer and CV diseases has emerged over the recent years, various analyses have shown a direct relationship between hypertension and cancer incidence and mortality. Finally, many antineoplastic treatments may cause a rise in blood pressure (BP) values, particularly the novel anti VEGF agents, this possibly compromising efficacy of chemotherapy. Aim of this review is to revise the topic and the many aspects linking arterial hypertension and cancer, and to provide a comprehensive and practical guide of the current treatment approaches.

Abstract
Angiogenesis inhibitors targeting the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) signaling pathway (VSP) have been important additions in the therapy of various cancers, especially renal cell carcinoma and colorectal cancer. Bevazicumab, the first VSP to receive FDA approval in 2004 targeting all circulating isoforms of VEGF-A, has become one of the best-selling drugs of all times. The second wave of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), which target the intracellular site of VEGF receptor kinases, began with the approval of sorafenib in 2005 and sunitinib in 2006. Heart failure was subsequently noted, in 2-4% of patients on bevacizumab and in 3-8% of patients on VSP-TKIs. The very fact that the single-targeted monoclonal antibody bevacizumab can induce cardiotoxicity supports a pathomechanistic role for the VSP and the postulate of the "vascular" nature of VSP inhibitor cardiotoxicity. In this review we will outline this scenario in greater detail, reflecting on hypertension and coronary artery disease as risk factors for VSP inhibitor cardiotoxicity, but also similarities with peripartum and diabetic cardiomyopathy. This leads to the concept that any preexisting or coexisting condition that reduces the vascular reserve or utilizes the vascular reserve for compensatory purposes may pose a risk factor for cardiotoxicity with VSP inhibitors. These conditions need to be carefully considered in cancer patients who are to undergo VSP inhibitor therapy. Such vigilance is not to exclude patients from such prognostically extremely important therapy but to understand the continuum and to recognize and react to any cardiotoxicity dynamics early on for superior overall outcomes.

Abstract
The introduction of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) signaling pathway inhibitor treatment has highlighted the role of the baseline activity of the VEFG system for blood pressure regulation. VEGF signaling pathway is associated with hypertension and proteinuria. Activation of the endothelin system, endothelial dysfunction and capillary rarefaction are among the underlying mechanisms possibly explaining the rise in blood pressure and, to some extent, also the renal injury. The hypertension induced by VEGF signaling pathway inhibition is, usually, responsive to treatment. Recommendations about the management of cardiovascular toxicity in patients receiving VEGF signaling pathway inhibitors include a formal cardiovascular risk assessment before initiation of VEGF signaling pathway inhibitor treatment, active monitoring of blood pressure and cardiac toxicity throughout treatment, with more frequent monitoring during the first cycles of therapy, given that marked and unpredictable blood pressure rises can occur early after treatment with a VEGF signaling pathway inhibitor, and aggressive management of blood pressure elevations and early symptoms and signs of cardiac toxicity to prevent clinically limiting complications. In patients with preexisting hypertension, the blood pressure target for initiating VEGF signaling pathway inhibitor treatment should be <140/90 mmHg. Blockers of the renin-angiotensin system and calcium channel antagonists are among the drugs to be preferably used in these clinical conditions.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW While targeted therapies have improved cancer outcomes, unique cardiovascular toxicities are increasingly recognized, particularly when administered sequentially after anthracyclines or radiation. Patients with cancer therapy-induced cardiotoxicity benefit from collaborative care involving cardiology and oncology, leading to a new interdisciplinary field called cardio-oncology. The present review will highlight contemporary clinical issues in cardio-oncology. RECENT FINDINGS Recently, risk factors for cancer therapy-induced cardiotoxicity have been evaluated in real-world rather than in clinical trial patients. Biomarkers and advanced echocardiography are emerging as sensitive tools for preclinical identification of cancer therapy-induced cardiotoxicity. Single-center studies suggest that cancer therapy-induced cardiotoxicity responds to prompt heart failure medical treatment, and such therapy may even prevent cardiotoxicity. SUMMARY Modern cancer therapy has short-term cardiac risk that may require collaborative management by clinicians with expertise in cardiology and oncology. The increased effectiveness of modern cancer therapy is resulting in a growing population of cancer survivors who are at long-term risk for cardiovascular disease. The present review of contemporary clinical issues in cardio-oncology will be of interest to healthcare providers who manage cardiotoxicity during cancer therapy, and who follow patients who survive cancer but face increased long-term cardiovascular risk.

Abstract
Over the past decades, there have been great advancements in the survival outcome of patients with cancer. As a consequence, treatment regimens are being extended to patient populations that would not have qualified in the past based on comorbidities and age. Furthermore, the anti-cancer regimens, which have been and are being used, can cause considerable morbidity and even mortality. In fact, new drugs such as tyrosine kinase inhibitors have yielded unanticipated side effects in frequency and severity. The cardiovascular disease spectrum is an important element in all of these. In order to optimize the outcome of cancer patients with cardiovascular diseases existing prior to cancer treatment or developing as a consequence of it, a new discipline called "cardio-oncology" has evolved over the past few years. Herein, we review the latest developments in this field including cardiotoxicities, vascular toxicities, and arrhythmias. This field is taking on more shape as cardiologists, oncologists, and hematologists are forming alliances, programs, and clinics, supported by the development of expert consensus statements on best management approaches and care of the cancer patient with cardiovascular diseases.

Abstract
Preeclampsia is the major cause of maternofetal and neonatal morbi-mortality including intrauterine growth retardation, miscarriages and stillbirths. Inadequate vascular dilation and angiogenesis represent the crucial underlying defect of gravidic hypertension, denoting a failed response to the vasodilatory and pro-angiogenic challenge imposed by pregnancy, especially if multifetal. A similar pathogenesis appears involved in gestational diabetes. In this review we aimed to provide a hint on understanding the deeply involved angiogenic disorders which eventually culminate in utero-placental failure. The key players in these complex processes may be found in an intricate network of growth factors (GFs) and GF inhibitors, controlled by several vascular risk factors modulated by environment and genes, which eventually impact on early and late cardiovascular outcomes of mother and fetus.
