Explaining Chinese Consumers' Continuous Consumption Intention toward Prepared Dishes: The Role of Perceived Risk and Trust

With the rapid development and the increasing importance of the consumer market of prepared dishes in China, it is imperative to study the formation mechanism of Chinese consumers' continuous consumption intention (CCI) toward prepared dishes for promoting the sustainable development of Chinese prepared dishes industry. The aim of this study is to study the formation mechanism and the role of perceived risk and trust in it. Based on the Expectation Confirmation Model, this study constructed a model of continuous consumption intention of prepared dishes by introducing perceived risk and trust. 381 adult consumers were surveyed and the data was analyzed by an Exploratory Factor Analysis and the Partial Least Squares Structure Equation Model. The results showed that: (1) The confirmation of expectation had a significant positive impact on trust and satisfaction, a significant negative impact on the perceived risk (PR). Trust and satisfaction had a significant positive, while PR had a significant negative, impact on CCI. (2) The dimensions of PR included social, health, quality, psychological and purchasing risk, among which quality risk had a significant negative impact on CCI. (3) All dimensions of trust (ability, integrity, benevolence and government trust) had a significant positive impact on CCI, among which integrity trust played the most important role. (4) Overall, trust had a significant negative impact on PR. Benevolence trust could mitigate all dimensions of PR, integrity trust could mitigate all dimensions of PR except health risk, and ability trust, government trust could only mitigate quality risk. Therefore, the enterprises should pay high attention to the quality of their products and the establishment and maintenance of consumer trust, and the government should establish an authoritative image.

Understanding the adoption context of China's digital currency electronic payment

Central banks worldwide have started researching and developing central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). In the digital economy context, concerns regarding the integrity, competition, and privacy of CBDC systems have also gradually emerged. Against this backdrop, this study aims to evaluate users' willingness to use China's digital currency electronic payment (DCEP) system, a digital payment and processing network, and its influencing factors by comprehensively considering and comparing the characteristics of cash and third-party payment services. Combining the push-pull-mooring framework (PPM) and task-technology fit (TTF) theory, we discuss the scenarios and mechanisms that may inspire users' DCEP adoption intention through an empirical study. The results reveal that privacy concerns regarding the original payment methods and technology-task fitting level of DCEP positively impact users' willingness to adopt DCEP. The technical characteristics of DCEP, users' payment requirements, and government support positively affect users' adoption intention by influencing the task-technology fitting degree of DCEP. Switching cost significantly and negatively impacts adoption intention, whereas relative advantage exhibits no significant effect. This research contributes to a better understanding of the factors that influence switching intentions and the actual use of DCEP, and provides policy guidance on promoting the efficiency and effectiveness of DCEP.

Effect of perceived risks, perceived benefits and regulatory events on users’ supervision intention towards e-hailing platforms: A mixed method

Research on platform governance has gained extensive scholarly interest. However, studies on user participation intention towards platform supervision remain underexplored. In this study, a mixed method approach, including qualitative and quantitative methods, is used to explore the factors influencing the supervision intention of e-hailing users. A preliminary interview study is conducted to determine what factors impact users’ supervision intention, and an SEM model is tested using 359 survey data to examine how perceived government regulation, perceived risks/benefits and regulatory events impact supervision intention. Results indicate that perceived government regulation reduces perceived risks and increases the perceived benefits from participation into supervision, perceived risks weakened users’ supervision intention, whereas perceived benefits stimulated it. Perceived risks and perceived benefits positively mediated the relationship between perceived government regulation and users’ supervision intention. Regulatory events have a negative moderating effect on the relationship between e-hailing users’ perceived risks (benefits) and supervision intention.

Trust Transfer in Sharing Accommodation: The Moderating Role of Privacy Concerns

Sharing accommodation (SA) has gained rapid growth in the last decade. To offer better service to users, the platform and hosts have to extensively collect and utilize confidential user data and information. With the extensive collection and utilization of personal user information, there are potential problems of data abuse and leakage, which makes users’ privacy concerns an important and unavoidable issue for repeated purchases and the sustainable development of SA. Privacy concerns are thus not only an important antecedent of purchase behaviors, but also an important conditional variable that will have impacts on the formation of trust and user purchase behaviors. However, the moderating effect of privacy concerns on trust formation has rarely been examined in the SA literature. To fill this knowledge gap, drawing on trust transfer theory and trust literature, this study builds a theoretical model to examine the relationships of three types of institution-based trust (i.e., trust in the SA platform, trust in the user community, and trust in the host community) and their effects on continuous use intention. Moreover, this study explores the moderating effect of privacy concerns on institution-based trust transfer in the context of SA. We then collected data through a questionnaire survey from experienced users of two reputable SA platforms in China, and empirically tested the research model with 470 valid responses. The results show that trust in the user community positively affects trust in the SA platform and trust in the host community; trust in the SA platform and trust in the host community positively affect users’ continuous use intention. Meanwhile, privacy concerns negatively moderate the relationship between trust in the user community and trust in the SA platform, as well as the relationship between trust in the user community and trust in the host community. The findings confirm the moderating role of privacy concerns in the trust transfer process, complementing existing research on trust transfer theory and trust.
