Improved results on state feedback stabilization for a networked control system with additive time-varying delay components' controller

This paper investigates the problems of stability and stabilization for a networked control system (NCS) with additive time-varying delay components' controller. Firstly, stability of a NCS with additive time-varying delays is investigated. A novel approach with free parameters is proposed. By constructing a new Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional (LKF) with two free parameters, stability criteria are obtained. The obtained stability criteria depend not only on upper bounds of delays but also free parameters. In addition, input-output method is extended to study the stability problem for the NCS. Compared with other approaches such as input-output method, the free-parameter approach is more flexible and effective in reducing the conservatism. Then, based on the stability results, a state feedback controller is designed to guarantee the asymptotically stable of the closed-loop systems. Finally, numerical examples are provided to show the effectiveness and less conservatism of the proposed results.

Embedded intelligent adaptive PI controller for an electromechanical system

In this study, an intelligent adaptive controller approach using the interval type-2 fuzzy neural network (IT2FNN) is presented. The proposed controller consists of a lower level proportional - integral (PI) controller, which is the main controller and an upper level IT2FNN which tuning on-line the parameters of a PI controller. The proposed adaptive PI controller based on IT2FNN (API-IT2FNN) is implemented practically using the Arduino DUE kit for controlling the speed of a nonlinear DC motor-generator system. The parameters of the IT2FNN are tuned on-line using back-propagation algorithm. The Lyapunov theorem is used to derive the stability and convergence of the IT2FNN. The obtained experimental results, which are compared with other controllers, demonstrate that the proposed API-IT2FNN is able to improve the system response over a wide range of system uncertainties.

Control of the rotary inverted pendulum through threshold-based communication

This paper deals with the real implementation of an event-based control structure for the classical rotary inverted pendulum. The communication between controller and plant is performed through Ethernet (TCP/IP) which leads to a Networked Control System. The bandwidth used by the control loop is reduced, compared with the one that needs a conventional control, by using a threshold-based communication. The values of the thresholds have been determined by means of simulation techniques. The results over the real plant show how this technique can reach a significant reduction of the bandwidth consumed with a negligible worsening of the performance.

Interval type-2 fuzzy PID controller for uncertain nonlinear inverted pendulum system

In this paper, the interval type-2 fuzzy proportional-integral-derivative controller (IT2F-PID) is proposed for controlling an inverted pendulum on a cart system with an uncertain model. The proposed controller is designed using a new method of type-reduction that we have proposed, which is called the simplified type-reduction method. The proposed IT2F-PID controller is able to handle the effect of structure uncertainties due to the structure of the interval type-2 fuzzy logic system (IT2-FLS). The results of the proposed IT2F-PID controller using a new method of type-reduction are compared with the other proposed IT2F-PID controller using the uncertainty bound method and the type-1 fuzzy PID controller (T1F-PID). The simulation and practical results show that the performance of the proposed controller is significantly improved compared with the T1F-PID controller.

Generalized eigenvalue minimization for uncertain first-order plus time-delay processes

This paper shows how to apply generalized eigenvalue minimization to processes that can be described by a first-order plus time-delay model with uncertain gain, time constant and delay. An algorithm to transform the uncertain first-order plus time delay model into a state-space model with uncertainty polyhedron is firstly described. The accuracy of the transformation is studied using numerical examples. Then, the uncertainty polyhedron is rewritten as a linear-matrix-inequality constraint and generalized eigenvalue minimization is adopted to calculate a feedback control law. Case studies show that even if uncertainties associated with the first-order plus time delay model are significant, a stable feedback control law can be found. The proposed control is tested by comparing with a robust internal model control. It is also tested by applying it to the temperature control of air-handing units.
