Abstract
An approach to 2,3-benzotropone from 1-benzosuberone via palladium(II)-catalyzed aerobic dehydrogenation was developed. This method first provided a catalytic route to various 2,3-benzotropones from their corresponding 1-benzosuberones in good yields. In addition, the reaction could be applied to a one-pot Diels-Alder reaction with maleimide, providing a complex benzobicyclo[3.2.2]nonenone in ≤90% yield. Kinetic analysis supporting our proposed mechanism was also performed, underscoring the robustness of the developed synthetic pathway.

Abstract
1,3-Dienes are common scaffolds in biologically active natural products as well as building blocks for chemical synthesis. Developing efficient methods for the synthesis of diverse 1,3-dienes from simple starting materials is therefore highly desirable. Herein, we report a Pd(II)-catalyzed sequential dehydrogenation reaction of free aliphatic acids via β-methylene C-H activation, which enables one-step synthesis of diverse E,E-1,3-dienes. Free aliphatic acids of varying complexities, including the antiasthmatic drug seratrodast, were found to be compatible with the reported protocol. Considering the high lability of 1,3-dienes and lack of protecting strategies, dehydrogenation of aliphatic acids to reveal 1,3-dienes at the late stage of synthesis offers an appealing strategy for the synthesis of complex molecules containing such motifs.

Abstract
Dienones are challenging building blocks in natural product synthesis due to their high reactivity and complex synthesis. Based on previous work and own initial results, a new stereospecific sequential hydrozirconation/Pd-catalyzed acylation of enynes with acyl chlorides towards conjugated (2E,4E)-dienones is reported. We investigated a number of substrates with different alkyl and aryl substituents in the one-pot reaction and showed that regardless of the substitution pattern, the reactions lead to the stereoselective formation (≥95% (2E,4E)) of the respective dienones under mild conditions. It was found that enynes with alkyl chains gave higher yields than the corresponding aryl-substituted analogues, whereas the variation of the acyl chlorides did not affect the reaction significantly. The synthetic application is demonstrated by formation of non-natural and natural dienone-containing terpenes such as β-ionone which was available in 4 steps and 6% overall yield.

Abstract
The synthesis of isoindolinones from N-methoxy benzamides and saturated ketones via a bimetallic tandem catalytic annulation has been accomplished. The reaction is catalyzed by a Rh/Cu-cocatalytic system and proceeds via the combination of Cu-catalyzed dehydrogenation of ketones and Rh-catalyzed direct C-H functionalization with the assistance of the N-methoxy amide group which also acts as an oxidant to regenerate the Rh catalyst. This method shows good compatibility with a wide range of substrates and functional groups, and provides an alternative strategy to obtain diverse isoindolinones.

Abstract
The selective oxidation of alcohol-d1 to prepare aldehyde-d1 was newly developed by means of NaBD4 reduction/activated MnO2 oxidation. Various aldehyde-d1 derivatives including aromatic and unsaturated aldehyde-d1 can be prepared with a high deuterium incorporation ratio (up to 98% D). Halogens (chloride, bromide, and iodide), alkene, alkyne, ester, nitro, and cyano groups in the substrates are tolerated under the mild conditions. A facile method for deutrium incorporation into aldehydes by mild reduction of NaBD4 of aldehydes and MnO2 oxidation (98% D) is disclosed.![]()
