Mapping the research landscape on temporomandibular disorders and orthodontics treatment: A bibliometric analysis

BACKGROUND

Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and orthodontic treatment are significant areas within dental and maxillofacial research. However, comprehensive bibliometric analyses highlighting global trends and collaboration networks are lacking.

OBJECTIVE(S)

This study aims to systematically map the publication landscape, identify prevailing research trends, highlight influential authors and institutions, and illuminate emerging topics in TMD and orthodontic research.

METHODS

Publications concerning TMD and orthodontic treatment from 2000 to 2024 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. A bibliometric analysis was conducted using VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and R to evaluate co-authorship networks, institutional collaborations, and keyword co-occurrence patterns.

RESULTS

A total of 871 publications were identified, with an average annual growth rate of 4.4 %. Contributions came from 47 countries and involved 3,463 authors, with the USA and Japan leading in citations. Notable institutions included Kyung Hee University and Baylor University. Key journals included the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics and the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Frequently occurring keywords were "temporomandibular-joint," "orthognathic surgery," and "orthodontic treatment," indicating essential research foci. Emerging trends highlighted advancements in surgical techniques and technological innovations in orthodontics.

CONCLUSION

This bibliometric analysis offers valuable insights into global research trends and hotspots in TMD and orthodontic treatment, emphasizing the collaborative nature of the field and illuminating emerging areas for future investigation.

Mapping knowledge domain of acupuncture for Parkinson's disease: a bibliometric and visual analysis

Objective

This study points to probing the inclination and mapping knowledge domain of acupuncture for Parkinson's disease through bibliometrics.

Methods

A search was conducted on 1 February 2024 using the Web of Science to identify papers published on acupuncture for Parkinson's disease. The analysis included scientific research, countries, organizations, authors/cited authors, keywords, journals, and cited references. Bibliometric data were analyzed using VOSviewer software, CiteSpace, GraphPad Prism, and Scimago Graphica. The studies on acupuncture for Parkinson's disease were visualized as a network map according to the publication year.

Results

The cumulative publication trend on acupuncture for Parkinson's disease is increasing year by year. China is the leading contributor in this field. International collaboration is predominantly concentrated in Europe, while institutional collaboration is chiefly limited to Chinese universities specializing in traditional Chinese medicine. Park HJ is the most prolific author, with "Movement Disorders" being the journal with the most publications. "Brain Research" is identified as a key journal, reflecting a focus on neuroscience. Kim SN is the most cited author, while Eisenberg DM is a prominent author in this field. Research topics such as mouse models, systematic reviews, and non-motor symptoms are frequently explored, with messenger RNA of substantia nigra emerging as a notable keyword in this field. Choi YG's 2009 paper, published in the Neuroscience Letters journal, is a critical reference in this field. Key papers include Eisenberg DM's 1998 study on randomized trials of acupuncture for non-motor symptoms of PD, as well as research focusing on the neuroinflammatory regulatory mechanisms of acupuncture for PD.

Conclusion

The bibliometric analysis offers an exhaustive generality of the advancement and worldwide trends in acupuncture treatments for Parkinson's disease, shedding light on potential avenues for prospective research.

A very, very lonely, unmagical time. The lived experience of perinatal anxiety: A longitudinal interpretative phenomenological analysis

PROBLEM

Minimal longitudinal qualitative evidence examining lived experience of anxiety over the perinatal continuum limits holistic understanding of the course of antenatal and postnatal anxiety.

BACKGROUND

Perinatal anxiety has deleterious effects on the mother and infant and is more commonly experienced yet less well investigated than perinatal depression.

AIM AND METHOD

To explore women's experiences living with perinatal anxiety to increase understanding of the condition; inform support given by midwives and other health professionals and provide practice, education, and research recommendations. Five women were interviewed at three timepoints, producing 15 datasets. Data was analysed using longitudinal interpretative phenomenological analysis.

FINDINGS

Nine Group Experiential Themes emerged: the anxious mother, transformation, sets of ears and the anxious pregnancy (antenatal); baby as external focus, returning to oneself and the emotional unknown (early postnatal); and moving on, and shifting sands (late postnatal). Three Longitudinal Experiential Concepts explicated lived experience over time: maternal eyes, transforming existence, and emotional kaleidoscope. The lived experience of perinatal anxiety was revealed as socially constructed, with relationships with self, others, and the world key. The collision between anxiety and motherhood as social constructs provides perinatal anxiety with its unique characteristics.

CONCLUSION

Midwives and other healthcare professionals should understand the significance of perinatal anxiety, enabling disclosure of stigmatising and uncomfortable feelings without judgement. Research examining whether perinatal specific screening tools should be used by midwives and exploring the relationship between perinatal anxiety and depression is recommended. Education for clinicians on the significance of perinatal anxiety is essential.

Bibliometric Analysis of Development Trends and Research Hotspots in the Study of Data Mining in Nursing Based on CiteSpace

Backgrounds

With the advent of the big data era, hospital information systems and mobile care systems, among others, generate massive amounts of medical data. Data mining, as a powerful information processing technology, can discover non-obvious information by processing large-scale data and analyzing them in multiple dimensions. How to find the effective information hidden in the database and apply it to nursing clinical practice has received more and more attention from nursing researchers.

Aim

To look over the articles on data mining in nursing, compiled research status, identified hotspots, highlighted research trends, and offer recommendations for how data mining technology might be used in the nursing area going forward.

Methods

Data mining in nursing publications published between 2002 and 2023 were taken from the Web of Science Core Collection. CiteSpace was utilized for reviewing the number of articles, countries/regions, institutions, journals, authors, and keywords.

Results

According to the findings, the pace of data mining in nursing progress is not encouraging. Nursing data mining research is dominated by the United States and China. However, no consistent core group of writers or organizations has emerged in the field of nursing data mining. Studies on data mining in nursing have been increasingly gradually conducted in the 21st century, but the overall number is not large. Institution of Columbia University, journal of Cin-computers Informatics Nursing, author Diana J Wilkie, Muhammad Kamran Lodhi, Yingwei Yao are most influential in nursing data mining research. Nursing data mining researchers are currently focusing on electronic health records, text mining, machine learning, and natural language processing. Future research themes in data mining in nursing most include nursing informatics and clinical care quality enhancement.

Conclusion

Research data shows that data mining gives more perspectives for the growth of the nursing discipline and encourages the discipline's development, but it also introduces a slew of new issues that need researchers to address.
