Abstract
Herein, we report the synthesis of bimetal-organic frameworks (BMOFs) with both Brønsted and Lewis acidities, in which phosphotungstic acid (PTA) was encapsulated in BMOFs. It is efficient in converting starch to 5-hydroxymethyl-furfural (HMF) in deep eutectic solvents (DESs) such as choline chloride and formic acid. The highest yield of HMF (37.94%) was obtained using P0.5/BMOFs1.0 to catalyze starch in a mixed solvent system comprising DESs and ethyl acetate (EAC) (v/v; 2:3) at 180 °C and a reaction time of 10 min. Employing a DES as a cocatalyst and solvent reduced the use of organic solvents. The catalyst showed adequate reusability, and the HMF yield only decreased by 2.88% after six cycles of reuse compared with that of the initial catalyst. This study demonstrates the application potential of BMOFs in the conversion of biomass to useful molecules with commercial and/or research value.

Abstract
Insertion of molecular metal oxides, e.g. polyoxometalates (POMs), into metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) opens up new research opportunities in various fields, particularly in catalysis. POM/MOF composites have strong acidity, oxygen-rich surface, and redox capacity due to typical characteristics of POMs and the large surface area, highly organized structures, tunable pore size, and shape are due to MOFs. Such hybrid materials have gained a lot of attention due to astonishing structural features, and hence have potential applications in organic catalysis, sorption and separation, proton conduction, magnetism, lithium-ion batteries, supercapacitors, electrochemistry, medicine, bio-fuel, and so on. The exceptional chemical and physical characteristics of POMOFs make them useful as catalysts in simple organic transformations with high capacity and selectivity. Here, the thorough catalytic study starts with a brief introduction related to POMs and MOFs, and is followed by the synthetic strategies and applications of these materials in several catalytic organic transformations. Furthermore, catalytic conversions like oxidation, condensation, esterification, and some other types of catalytic reactions including photocatalytic reactions are discussed in length with their plausible catalytic mechanisms. The disadvantages of the POMOFs and difficulties faced in the field have also been explored briefly from our perspectives.

Abstract
The incorporation of polyoxometalates (POMs) in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with host-guest structure have proven to be effective strategy to rational design of heterogeneous catalysis. In this study, the Keggin-type POM@MIL-101(Cr) composite catalysts (PMo12, PW12 and SiW12) are synthesized for nitrogen fixation reaction without sacrificial agents at room temperature in the first time. The SiW12 molecules are encapsulated in smaller cavities of MIL-101(Cr) by solvothermal method and in larger cavities by impregnation method, respectively. Solvothermal synthesized catalyst has a performance of 75.56 μmol·h-1·g-1cat and TOF value of 1.95 h-1, which are about 10 and 88 times than that of Na4SiW12O40. The excellent performance is ascribed to the synergistic effect of SiW12 and MIL-101(Cr). The MIL-101(Cr) adsorbs a large amount of N2 and generates sufficiently photogenerated electrons under sunlight irradiation, and electrons quickly transfer to the SiW12 through hydrogen bonds. Moreover, the agglomeration effect of the homogeneous catalyst SiW12 is weakened due to encapsulation with more exposed active sites. This work provides a feasible route to design and synthesize nanocomposite materials with exceptional performance for photocatalytic nitrogen fixation.

Abstract
Oral administration is a commonly used, safe, and patient-compliant method of drug delivery. However, due to the multiple absorption barriers in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), the oral bioavailability of many drugs is low, resulting in a limited range of applications for oral drug delivery. Nanodrug delivery systems have unique advantages in overcoming the multiple barriers to oral absorption and improving the oral bioavailability of encapsulated drugs. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are composed of metal ions and organic linkers assembled by coordination chemistry. Unlike other nanomaterials, nanoscale metal-organic frameworks (nano-MOFs, NMOFs) are increasingly popular for drug delivery systems (DDSs) due to their tunable pore size and easily modified surfaces. This paper summarizes the literature on MOFs in pharmaceutics included in SCI for the past ten years. Then, the GIT structure and oral drug delivery systems are reviewed, and the advantages, challenges, and solution strategies possessed by oral drug delivery systems are discussed. Importantly, two major classes of MOFs suitable for oral drug delivery systems are summarized, and various representative MOFs as oral drug carriers are evaluated in the context of oral drug delivery systems. Finally, the challenges faced by DDSs in the development of MOFs, such as biostability, biosafety, and toxicity, are examined.

Abstract
Efficient catalysts play crucial roles in various organic reactions and polymerization. Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have the merits of ultrahigh porosity, large surface area, dispersed polymetallic sites and modifiable linkers, which make them promising candidates for catalyzation. This review primarily summarizes the recent research progress on diverse strategies for tailoring MOFs that are endowed with excellent catalytic behavior. These strategies include utilizing MOFs as nanosized reaction channels, metal nodes decorated as catalytic active sites and the modification of ligands or linkers. All these make them highly attractive to various applications, especially in catalyzing organic reactions or polymerizations and they have proven to be effective catalysts for a wide variety of reactions. MOFs are still an evolving field with tremendous prospects; therefore, through the research and development of more modification and regulation strategies, MOFs will realize their wider practical application in the future. Abstract
A rapid surface sealing strategy has been developed for the encapsulation of a homogeneous catalyst, phosphotungstic acid (PTA), in a mesoporous metal-organic framework (MOF), MIL-101(Cr). This new surface polymerization method utilizes non-solvent-induced phase separation to concentrate and direct polyamine and dianhydride monomers onto MOF particle surfaces, thus realizing the formation of a sub-10 nm, uniform, and cross-linked polymer coating within a few seconds. While fully preserving the catalytic activity of the neat PTA for the catalytic decomposition of phenol, the surface-sealed PTA-MOF composite catalyst can be reused up to 10 times with no noticeable loss of activity and negligible leaching of PTA. Since this surface coating method is not limited by either the MOF or the catalyst, it will become the technique of choice for the immobilization of homogeneous catalysts in MOFs.

Abstract
The level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is growing rapidly due to fossil fuel combustion processes, heavy oil, coal, oil shelter, and exhausts from automobiles for energy generation, which lead to depletion of the ozone layer and consequently result in global warming. The realization of a carbon-neutral environment is the main focus of science and academic researchers of today. Several processes were employed to minimize carbon dioxide in the air, some of which include the utilization of non-fossil sources of energy like solar, nuclear, and biomass-based fuels. Consequently, these sources were reported to have a relatively high cost of production and maintenance. The applications of both homogeneous and heterogeneous processes in carbon capture and storage were investigated in recent years and the focus now is on the conversion of CO2 into useful chemicals and compounds. It was established that CO2 can undergo cycloaddition reaction with epoxides under the influence of special catalysts to give cyclic carbonates, which can be used as value-added chemicals at a different level of pharmaceutical and industrial applications. Among the various catalysts studied for this reaction, metal-organic frameworks are now on the frontline as a potential catalyst due to their special features and easy synthesis. Several metal-organic framework (MOF)-based catalysts were studied for their application in transforming CO2 to organic carbonates using epoxides. Here, we report some recent studies of porous MOF materials and an in-depth discussion of two repeatedly used metal-organic frameworks as a catalyst in the conversion of CO2 to organic carbonates.

Abstract
A novel organodiphosphonate-based telluromolybdate cluster, (NH4)6Na3H13[TeMo10O37(CoMo2O6L)4]·11H2O [1; L = (O3P)2C(O)(CH2)3NH2], has been successfully synthesized by a simple one-pot aqueous reaction. Intriguingly, the [TeMo10O37]10- subunit with tetrahedral geometry of TeO4 is observed in the organophosphonate-functionalized polyoxometalates for the first time. Compound 1 was prepared in a buffer solution (pH = 5.5) with alendronic acid (Ale) and (NH4)6Mo7O24·4H2O as raw materials. The polyanion [TeMo10O37(CoMo2O6L)4]22- was constructed from four {Mo2O6L} subunits encapsulating an interesting Te-Mo heterometal subunit [TeMo10O37]10- through four CoO6 octahedra and has been fully characterized by routine techniques. In addition, compound 1, as a heterogeneous catalyst, shows good conversion (92%) and high selectivity (99%) for Knoevenagel condensation reaction.

Abstract
In this study, a sustainable NH2-MIL-101(Al) is synthesized and subjected to characterization for cryogenic CO2 adsorption, isotherms, and thermodynamic study. The morphology revealed a highly porous surface. The XRD showed that NH2-MIL-101(Al) was crystalline. The NH2-MIL-101(Al) decomposes at a temperature (>500 °C) indicating excellent thermal stability. The BET investigation revealed the specific surface area of 2530 m2/g and the pore volume of 1.32 cm3/g. The CO2 adsorption capacity was found to be 9.55 wt% to 2.31 wt% within the investigated temperature range. The isotherms revealed the availability of adsorption sites with favorable adsorption at lower temperatures indicating the thermodynamically controlled process. The thermodynamics showed that the process is non-spontaneous, endothermic, with fewer disorders, chemisorption. Finally, the breakthrough time of NH2-MIL-101(Al) is 31.25% more than spherical glass beads. The CO2 captured by the particles was 2.29 kg m-3. The CO2 capture using glass packing was 121% less than NH2-MIL-101(Al) under similar conditions of temperature and pressure.

Abstract
Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have become one of the versatile solid materials used for a wide range of applications, such as gas storage, gas separation, proton conductivity, sensors and catalysis. Among these fields, one of the more well-studied areas is the use of MOFs as heterogeneous catalysts for a broad range of organic reactions. In the present review, the employment of MOFs as solid catalysts for the Henry reaction is discussed, and the available literature data from the last decade are grouped. The review is organized with a brief introduction of the importance of Henry reactions and structural properties of MOFs that are suitable for catalysis. The second part of the review discusses the use of MOFs as solid catalysts for the Henry reaction involving metal nodes as active sites, while the third section provides data utilizing basic sites (primary amine, secondary amine, amides and urea-donating sites). While commenting on the catalytic results in these two sections, the advantage of MOFs over other solid catalysts is compared in terms of activity by providing turnover number (TON) values and the structural stability of MOFs during the course of the reaction. The final section provides our views on further directions in this field.

Abstract
The hybrid materials that are created by supporting or incorporating polyoxometalates (POMs) into/onto metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have a unique set of properties. They combine the strong acidity, oxygen-rich surface, and redox capability of POMs, while overcoming their drawbacks, such as difficult handling, a low surface area, and a high solubility. MOFs are ideal hosts because of their high surface area, long-range ordered structure, and high tunability in terms of the pore size and channels. In some cases, MOFs add an extra dimension to the functionality of hybrids. This review summarizes the recent developments in the field of POM@MOF hybrids. The most common applied synthesis strategies are discussed, together with major applications, such as their use in catalysis (organocatalysis, electrocatalysis, and photocatalysis). The more than 100 papers on this topic have been systematically summarized in a handy table, which covers almost all of the work conducted in this field up to now.

Abstract
Polyoxometalates (POMs) can benefit from immobilization on solid supports to overcome their difficulty in processability and stability. Among the reported solid supports, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) offer a crystalline, versatile platform for depositing highly active POMs. The combination of these structures can at times benefit from the combined reactivity of both the POM and MOF, sometimes synergistically, to improve catalysis while balancing desirable properties like porosity, substrate diffusion, or stability. In this Review, we survey the strategies for immobilizing POMs within MOF structures, with an emphasis on how physical and catalytic properties of the parent materials are affected in the composite when employed in organic transformations.

Abstract
A family of gyroidal metal-organic frameworks (STUs) composited with transition metal ions and bi-imidazolate ligands (BIm) were prepared and applied as both Lewis base and acid catalysts. Benefiting from the intrinsic basicity of the ligands and the Lewis acidic sites of the open metal centres, the STUs materials show excellent catalytic activities as Lewis base for the Knoevenagel condensation reaction between various aldehydes and malononitrile, and as Lewis acid for cyanosilylation reactions. Among these STUs, STU-4 (Ni(BIm)) shows the best catalytic efficiency (conversions >99 %) in both Knoevenagel condensation and cyanosilylation reactions under mild conditions, providing thus an advanced material for both Lewis base and Lewis acid catalysis.

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are highly promising Lewis acid catalysts; they either inherently possess Lewis acid sites (LASs) on it or the LASs can be generated through various post-synthetic methods, the later can be performed in MOFs in a trivial fashion. MOFs are suitable platform for catalysis because of its highly crystalline and porous nature. Moreover, with recent advancements, thermal and chemical stability is not a problem with many MOFs. In this Minireview, an enormous versatility of MOFs, in terms of their microporosity/mesoporosity, size/shape selectivity, chirality, pore size, etc., has been highlighted. These are advantageous for designing and performing various targeted organic transformations. Although, many organic transformations catalyzed by MOFs with LASs have been reported in the recent past. In this Minireview, we have restricted ourselves to four important organic reactions: (i) cyanosilylation, (ii) Diels-Alder reaction, (iii) C-H activation, and (iv) CO2 -addition. The discussion focuses mostly on the recent reports (42 examples).

Abstract
A metal-organic framework (MOF) is one kind of crystalline microporous material and is increasingly used as a host of catalytically active guests. Nanostructured materials supported on MOFs have presented enhanced catalytic activity and stability. Templates or several steps are essential to the synthesis of MOF composites. Simple and effective MOF synthesis methods are still challenging. Nanosized copper oxide particles in MOF composites, described as nanosized CuO@HKUST-1, were prepared by a facile solvent-free reaction. These series of CuO@HKUST-1 composites exhibited excellent photocatalytic activity for production of hydrogen and methylene blue (MB) degradation under visible light. This synthesis method provides an effective way to fabricate MOF-related nanocomposite catalysts.

Abstract
The abolition of environmental pollutants and production of hydrogen (H2) from water using a heterogeneous photocatalyst is a demanding science of the current scenario to solve the increasing environmental pollution and worldwide energy catastrophe in modern life. To validate this purpose, the design of low-cost and durable semiconductor-based photocatalysts with great light absorption capacity becomes the most challenging issue for researchers. Regarding this, herein the phosphotungstic acid (HPW)-anchored Zr6O4(OH)4(BDC)6 (UiO-66) metal-organic framework (MOF), i.e., HPW@UiO-66, has been prepared by a hydrothermal method and is efficient, stable, and capable of harvesting solar energy toward the degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) and H2 production in the presence of a sacrificial donor. The ionic interaction between HPW and UiO-66 plays a key role toward the photostability and charge-transfer mechanism of the composite and is well characterized with X-ray diffraction, UV diffuse-reflectance spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. A total of 30 wt % HPW@UiO-66 shows a maximum degradation of about 87.24% of a 20 ppm TCH solution in 60 min of solar-light irradiation and about 353.89 μmol/h of H2 production. The conduction- and valence-band potentials are well characterized with Mott-Schottky measurement and a delay charge recombination process through electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The proposed mediator-free Z-scheme-oriented electron-hole migration route is well supported by photoluminescence, and the scavenger test well explains the better charge-carrier separation and high catalytic performance of the prepared composite. This research will bestow an advantageous blueprint to fabricate novel and challenging photocatalysts toward the photocatalytic treatment of environmental pollutants and H2 evolution.
