Abstract
Formaldehyde (HCHO) is toxic to the human body and is one of the main threats to the indoor air quality (IAQ). As such, the removal of HCHO is imperative to improving the IAQ, whereby the most useful method to effectively remove HCHO at room temperature is catalytic oxidation. This review discusses catalysts for HCHO room-temperature oxidation, which are categorized according to their preparation methods, i.e., gas-phase reduction and liquid-phase reduction methods. The HCHO oxidation performances, structural features, and reaction mechanisms of the different catalysts are discussed, and directions for future research on catalytic oxidation are reviewed.

New Insight into the Interplay of Method of Deposition, Chemical State of Pd, Oxygen Storage Capability and Catalytic Activity of Pd-Containing Perovskite Catalysts for Combustion of Methane. Abstract
Elaboration of Pd-supported catalysts for catalytic combustion is, nowadays, considered as an imperative task to reduce the emissions of methane. This study provides new insight into the method of deposition, chemical state of Pd and oxygen storage capability of transition metal ions and their effects on the catalytic reactivity of supported catalysts for the combustion of methane. The catalyst with nominal composition La(Co0.8Ni0.1Fe0.1)0.85Pd0.15O3 was supported on SiO2-modified/γ-alumina using two synthetic procedures: (i) aerosol assisted chemical vapor deposition (U-AACVD) and (ii) wet impregnation (Imp). A comparative analysis shows that a higher catalytic activity is established for supported catalyst obtained by wet impregnation, where the PdO-like phase is well dispersed and the transition metal ions display a high oxygen storage capability. The reaction pathway over both catalysts proceeds most probably through Mars–van Krevelen mechanism. The supported catalysts are thermally stable when they are aged at 505 °C for 120 h in air containing 1.2 vol.% water vapor. Furthermore, the experimentally obtained data on La(Co0.8Ni0.1Fe0.1)0.85Pd0.15O3—based catalyst, supported on monolithic substrate VDM®Aluchrom Y Hf are simulated by using a two-dimensional heterogeneous model for monolithic reactor in order to predict the performance of an industrial catalytic reactor for abatement of methane emissions.

Abstract
Diesel particulates are deposited in the diesel particulate filter and removed by the regeneration process. The Printex-U (PU) particles are simulated as the diesel soot to investigate the influence of thermal aging conditions on soot combustion performance with the addition of catalysts. The comprehensive combustion index S, combustion stability index Rw and peak temperature Tp are obtained to evaluate the combustion performance. Compared with the PU/Pt mixtures of different Pt contents (2 g/ft3, 3.5 g/ft3, and 5 g/ft3), the 10 g/ft3 Pt contents improve soot combustion with the outstanding oxygen absorption ability. When the weight ratio of PU/Pt mixture is 1:1, the promoted effect achieves the maximum degree. The S and Rw increase to 8.90 × 10-8 %2min-2°C-3 and 39.11 × 105, respectively, compared with pure PU. After the thermal aging process, the PU/Pt mixture with a 350 °C aging temperature for 10 h promotes the soot combustion the best when compared to pure PU particles. It is not good as the PU/Pt mixture without aging, because the inner properties of soot and Pt/Al2O3 catalyst may have been changed. The S and Rw are 9.07 × 10-8 %2min-2°C-3 and 38.39 × 105, respectively, which are close to the no aging mixture. This work plays a crucial role in understanding the mechanism of the comprehensive effect of soot and catalyst on soot combustion after the thermal aging process.

Abstract
For decades, differentially pumped environmental transmission electron microscopy has been a powerful tool to study dynamic structural evolution of catalysts under a gaseous environment. With the advancement of micro-electromechanical system-based technologies, windowed gas cell became increasingly popular due to its ability to achieve high pressure and its compatibility to a wide range of microscopes with minimal modification. This enables a series of imaging and analytical technologies such as atomic resolution imaging, spectroscopy, and operando, revealing details that were unprecedented before. By reviewing some of the recent work, we demonstrate that the windowed gas cell has the unique ability to solve complicated catalysis problems. We also discuss what technical difficulties need to be addressed and provide an outlook for the future of in situ environmental transmission electron microscopy (TEM) technologies and their application to the field of catalysis development.

Abstract
The catalytic properties of iron oxide supported platinum catalysts (Pt/Fe(2)O(3)), prepared by a colloid deposition route, were investigated for the complete oxidation of formaldehyde. It is found that all the Pt/Fe(2)O(3) catalysts calcined at different temperatures (200-500°C) were active for the oxidation of formaldehyde. Among them, the catalysts calcined at lower temperatures (i.e., 200 and 300°C) exhibited relatively high catalytic activity and stability, which could completely oxidize HCHO even at room temperature. Based on a variety of physical-chemical characterization results, it is proposed that the presence of suitable interaction between Pt particles and iron oxide supports, which is mainly in the form of Pt-O-Fe bonds, should play a positive role in determining the catalytic activity and stability of the supported Pt/Fe(2)O(3) catalysts.
