Fe-polyaniline composite nanofiber catalyst for chemoselective hydrolysis of oxime

BACKGROUND

The use of polymer-based catalysts has increased because of their high potential application as an effective catalyst in organic reactions. They have benefits such as high efficiency and reactivity, simple separation, and safety compared to other heterogeneous catalysts.

AIM AND OBJECTIVE

The objective of the current research is to prepare solid polymer-based catalysts, poly(aniline-co- m-phenylenediamine) (PAmPDA), and its superparamagnetic nanocomposite. Then, the catalytic activity of the resulting superparamagnetic nanocomposite was investigated in the synthesis of 1H-pyrazolo[1,2-b]phetalazine-5,10-diones and 1H-pyrazolo[1,2-a]pyridazine-5,8-dione derivatives. A series of some 1H-pyrazolo[1,2-b]phetalazine-5,10-diones and 1H-pyrazolo[1,2-a]pyridazine-5,8-dione derivatives was tested for its antibacterial properties against the Staphylococcus aureus and E.coli bacteria.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

PAmPDA copolymer was synthesized in a 1:2 molar ratio of Ani to mPDA via radical oxidative polymerization at room temperature. Superparamagnetic PAmPDA@Fe3O4 nanocomposite was synthesized from a mixture of Fe(II), Fe(III) solution, and PAmPDA copolymer via the in-situ co-precipitation technique. 1H-pyrazolo[1,2-b]phetalazine-5,10-diones were synthesized via one-pot three-component condensation reaction of Phthalhydrazide, aromatic aldehyde derivatives, and malononitrile in the presence of PAmPDA under solvent-free conditions at 80 °C. The synthesis of 1Hpyrazolo[1,2-a]pyridazine-5,8-dione derivatives was carried out via a one-pot three-component condensation reaction of maleic hydrazide, aromatic aldehyde derivatives, and malononitrile in the presence of PAmPDA under reflux conditions at EtOH/H2O 1:1. The antibacterial activity of some derivatives was tested against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

RESULTS

First, superparamagnetic PAmPDA@Fe3O4 nanocomposite was synthesized and characterized successfully, and then the resulting nanocatalyst was used for the synthesis of pyrazolo[1,2-b]phthalazine and pyrazolo[1,2-a]pyridazine. We obtained the maximum yield of the desired 1H-pyrazolo[1,2- b]phthalazine-5,10 dione derivatives with 0.05 g of catalyst at 80°C, under solvent free conditions, whereby the reaction was complete within 30 min. A wide range of 1H-pyrazolo[1,2-b]phthalazine-5,10 dione derivatives were synthesized in good to excellent yield. On the other hand, pyrazolo[1,2- a]pyridazine derivative was synthesized successfully in high yield using PAmPDA as a nanocatalyst. The antibacterial activity of some derivatives, according to the data (inhibition zone%), showed good activity against Staphylococcus aureus and E.coli.

CONCLUSION

In this research, PAmPDA was used for mild preparation of 1H-pyrazolo [1,2-a]pyridazine5,8-diones & 1H-pyrazolo[1,2-b]phetalazine-5,10-diones derivatives with excellent yields and short reaction times. The attractive features of this protocol are simple procedure, cleaner reaction, and the use of recyclable nanocatalyst. Satisfactory yields of products and easy workup make this a useful protocol for the green synthesis of this class of compounds. The antibacterial activity of some derivatives, according to the data (inhibition zone%), showed good activity against Staphylococcus aureus and E.coli.

A magnetically retrievable mixed-valent Fe3O4@SiO2/Pd0/PdII nanocomposite exhibiting facile tandem Suzuki coupling/transfer hydrogenation reaction

Herein, we report a magnetically retrievable mixed-valent Fe3O4@SiO2/Pd0/PdIINP (5) nanocomposite system for tandem Suzuki coupling/transfer hydrogenation reaction. The nanocomposite 5 was prepared first by making a layer of [Formula: see text] on [Formula: see text] followed by deposition of [Formula: see text] and sorption of [Formula: see text] ions successively onto the surface of Fe3O4@SiO2NP. The nanocomposite was characterized by powder XRD, electron microscopy (SEM-EDS and TEM-EDS) and XPS spectroscopy techniques. The mixed-valent [Formula: see text] present onto the surface of nanocomposite 5 was confirmed by XPS technique. Interestingly, the mixed-valent nanocomposite Fe3O4@SiO2/Pd0/PdIINP (5) exhibited tandem Suzuki coupling/transfer hydrogenation reaction during the reaction of aryl bromide with aryl boronic acid (90% of C). The nanocomposite 5 displayed much better reactivity as compared to the monovalent Fe3O4@SiO2/Pd0NP (3) (25% of C) and Fe3O4@SiO2/PdIINP (4) (15% of C) nanocomposites. Further, because of the presence of magnetic [Formula: see text], the nanocomposite displayed its facile separation from the reaction mixture and reused at least for five catalytic cycles.

Nickel hydroxide nanoparticles decorated napthalene sulfonic acid-doped polyaniline nanotubes as efficient catalysts for nitroarene reduction

Nanosize nickel hydroxide decorated 2-napthalene sulfonic acid-doped polyaniline nanotubes nanocomposites (Ni(OH)₂@NSA-PANI NCs) were successfully developed for the catalytic reduction of aromatic nitro compounds. The Ni(OH)₂@NSA-PANI NCs were synthesised by depositing Ni(OH)₂ nanoparticles onto 2-napthalene sulfonic acid doped PANI nanotubes surface. The resulting material was characterized using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), powder X-ray diffraction (P-XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The prepared nanocomposite showed a remarkable ability to catalytically hydrogenate aromatic nitro compounds using sodium borohydride (NaBH₄) as hydrogen source in aqueous medium at room temperature. Kinetic studies were performed using 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) as the model substrate, using the Langmuir-Hinshelwood model. The catalyst showed pseudo-first-order kinetics, with rate constants estimated between 0.08287 and 0.3649 min^-1. Catalyst recyclability without reduced activity was demonstrated over 10 successive cycles. The optimised nanocomposite catalyst demonstrated a low activation energy barrier towards 4-NP reduction.

Preparation, characterization and photocatalytic performance of heterostructured CuO-ZnO-loaded composite nanofiber membranes

Inorganic semiconductor oxides loaded on composite nanofibers (CNFs) have been widely applied in environmental monitoring, industry, aviation, and transportation. In this paper, heterostructured CuO-ZnO-loaded CNF membranes (CNFMs) were prepared successfully by a combination of electrospinning, heat treatment, and hydrothermal synthesis. The influence of the synthesis parameters on morphology, structure, and properties of the CNFMs was investigated, and the optimal process parameters were determined. Then, the CNFMs obtained with optimal process parameters were applied for the photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange. It was found that the CNFMs could be reused to degrade methyl orange at least three times, and the degradation rate remained above 90%.
