Designed formation of C/Fe3O4@Ni(OH)2 cathode with enhanced pseudocapacitance for asymmetric supercapacitors

Rational Design of High-Performance Electrodes Based on Ferric Oxide Nanosheets Deposited on Reduced Graphene Oxide for Advanced Hybrid Supercapacitors

The core strategy for constructing ultra-high-performance hybrid supercapacitors is the design of reasonable and effective electrode materials. Herein, a facile solvothermal-calcination strategy is developed to deposit the phosphate-functionalized Fe2O3 (P-Fe2O3) nanosheets on the reduced graphene oxide (rGO) framework. Benefiting from the superior conductivity of rGO and the high conductivity and fast charge storage dynamics of phosphate ions, the synthesized P-Fe2O3/rGO anode exhibits remarkable electrochemical performance with a high capacitance of 586.6 F g-1 at 1 A g-1 and only 4.0% capacitance loss within 10 000 cycles. In addition, the FeMoO4/Fe2O3/rGO nanosheets are fabricated by utilizing Fe2O3/rGO as the precursor. The introduction of molybdates successfully constructs open ion channels between rGO layers and provides abundant active sites, enabling the excellent electrochemical features of FeMoO4/Fe2O3/rGO cathode with a splendid capacity of 475.4 C g-1 at 1 A g-1. By matching P-Fe2O3/rGO with FeMoO4/Fe2O3/rGO, the constructed hybrid supercapacitor presents an admirable energy density of 82.0 Wh kg-1 and an extremely long working life of 95.0% after 20 000 cycles. Furthermore, the continuous operation of the red light-emitting diode for up to 30 min demonstrates the excellent energy storage properties of FeMoO4/Fe2O3/rGO//P-Fe2O3/rGO, which provides multiple possibilities for the follow-up energy storage applications of the iron-based composites.

Inulin-Coated ZnO Nanoparticles: A Correlation between Preparation and Properties for Biostimulation Purposes

Within the framework of plant biostimulation, a pivotal role is played by the achievement of low-cost, easily prepared nanoparticles for priming purposes. Therefore, in this report, two different synthetic strategies are described to engineer zinc oxide nanoparticles with an inulin coating. In both protocols, i.e., two-step and gel-like one-pot protocols, nanoparticles with a highly pure ZnO kernel are obtained when the reaction is carried out at T ≥ 40 °C, as ascertained by XRD and ATR/FTIR studies. However, a uniformly dispersed, highly homogeneous coating is achieved primarily when different temperatures, i.e., 60 °C and 40 °C, are employed in the two phases of the step-wise synthesis. In addition, a different binding mechanism, i.e., complexation, occurs in this case. When the gel-like process is employed, a high degree of coverage by the fructan is attained, leading to micrometric coated aggregates of nanometric particles, as revealed by SEM investigations. All NPs from the two-step synthesis feature electronic bandgaps in the 3.25-3.30 eV range in line with previous studies, whereas the extensive coating causes a remarkable 0.4 eV decrease in the bandgap. Overall, the global analysis of the investigations indicates that the samples synthesized at 60 °C and 40 °C are the best suited for biostimulation. Proof-of-principle assays upon Vicia faba seed priming with Zn5 and Zn5@inu indicated an effective growth stimulation of seedlings at doses of 100 mgKg-1, with concomitant Zn accumulation in the leaves.

Controlled preparation of cobalt carbonate hydroxide@nickel aluminum layered double hydroxide core-shell heterostructure for advanced supercapacitors

Herein, we report the rational fabrication of unique core-shell nanoclusters composed of cobalt carbonate hydroxide (Co-CH) @ nickel aluminum layered double hydroxide (NiAl-LDH) on a carbon cloth (CC) substrate using a two-step hydrothermal strategy. The one-dimensional (1D) Co-CH nanowires core-shell functions as a framework for the growth of two-dimensional (2D) NiAl-LDH nanosheets, leading to the formation of a hierarchically porous core-shell heterostructure. The presence of abundant heterointerfaces enhances electrical conductivity, reduces charge transfer resistance, and facilitates ion/electron transfer. Taking full advantage of its unique nanostructure and synergistic effect of two components, the as-prepared Co-CH@NiAl-LDH hybrid material illustrates a specific capacity of 1029.4 C/g (2058.9 mC cm-2) at 1 A g-1 and good rate capability with a capacity retention of 68.5% at 20 A g-1. Additionally, the assembled Co-CH@NiAl-LDH//pine pollen-derived porous carbon (PPC) hybrid supercapacitor (HSC) delivers impressive energy and power densities of 66.2 Wh kg-1 (0.27 Wh cm-2) and 17529.7 Wh kg-1 (0.11 Wh cm-2), respectively. This device also achieves a superior capacity retention of 80.3% over 20,000 cycles. These findings prove the importance of engineering heterointerfaces in heterostructure for the promotion of energy storage performance.
