Abstract
AIM This research was conducted to understand patients' dental visit habits and behaviours and to identify factors contributing to a positive patient experience at the dental office. METHODS An online survey was distributed to members of a market research panel in the United States. Qualifying panellists were 25 years of age or older who visited a dentist in the past year. Survey questions were related to frequency of dental visits, patient satisfaction with the dental office, importance of dental office attributes and dental product recommendation expectations. RESULTS There were 400 respondents, all from USA, with a mean age of 51 years; 54% were female and 46% were male. Overall, 74% had a college or post-graduate degree. The average number of dental visits per patient per year was 2.1. Fifty percent had been going to the same practice for more than 2 years. 84% of panellists indicated satisfaction with their dental office, which was driven by attributes related to good customer service and quality dental care/services. Factors rated as contributing to patient trust included: offering good services; polite and friendly behaviour; affordable cost; and clear and honest communication. Attributes rated as being most important for a dental practice included: valuing their time; not seeing them as just a patient; gentle dental team; and improving their oral health. Overall, 55% of respondents indicated they expect recommendations for specific brands to treat specific oral care issues. CONCLUSION Patients are seeking a more personal connection with their dental office and are interested in receiving information about their oral care habits. Including personalised self-care recommendations as part of every dental treatment plan will address these needs and motivate patients to engage in their oral health care. Education, communication and building personal connections are keys to establish a positive patient experience.

Abstract
BACKGROUND While oral health often takes a backseat to other health domains, it silently affects nearly half of the Worldwide population. The DELIVER project, funded by the EU's Horizon Europe program, seeks to develop a blueprint model for improving the quality of oral health care for everyone. METHODS Applying the Nominal Group Technique (NGT), 17 stakeholders from various backgrounds participated in identifying pressing issues for oral care quality improvement across practice, community, and policy levels. RESULTS The results revealed significant differences at the different levels, with accessibility emerging as a prominent issue, encompassing affordability, availability, and acceptability of oral healthcare services. CONCLUSIONS These findings emphasizes the need for policy reforms, increased investments, and a shift towards preventive and patient-centered dental care practices. It highlights the importance of collaborative efforts with multi-stakeholders and prioritizing pressing issues on a multi-level to drive positive change in improving oral care quality.

Abstract
Although self-reported health outcomes are of importance, attempts to validate a clinical applicable instrument (e.g., nomogram) combining sociodemographic and self-reported information on periodontitis have yet to be performed to identify periodontitis cases. Clinical and self-reported periodontitis, along with sociodemographic data, were collected from 197 adults. Akaike information criterion models were developed to identify periodontitis, and nomograms developed based on its regression coefficients. The discriminatory capability was evaluated by receiver-operating characteristic curves. Decision curve analysis was performed. Smoking [OR 3.69 (95%CI 1.89, 7.21)], poor/fair self-rated oral health [OR 6.62 (95%CI 3.23, 13.56)], previous periodontal treatment [OR 9.47 (95%CI 4.02, 22.25)], and tooth loss [OR 4.96 (95%CI 2.47, 9.97)], determined higher probability of having "Moderate/Severe Periodontitis". Age [OR 1.08 (95%CI 1.05, 1.12)], low educational level [OR 1.65 (95%CI 1.34, 2.23)], poor/fair self-rated oral health [OR 3.57 (95%CI 1.82, 6.99)], and previous periodontal treatment [OR 6.66 (95%CI 2.83, 15.68)] determined higher probability for "Any Periodontitis". Both nomograms showed excellent discriminatory capability (AUC of 0.83 (95%CI 0.75, 0.91) and 0.81 (95% CI 0.74, 0.88), good calibration, and slight overestimation of high risk and underestimation of low risk. Hence, our nomograms could help identify periodontitis among adults in Denmark.

Abstract
Measuring satisfaction can help us understand patients' expectations and adopt individualized treatment according to their expectations. In the current study, we applied the DPQ (Dental Practice Questionnaire) to analyze the degree of patient satisfaction regarding medical services in the public and private sector in a Romanian city from the central region. A group of 200 patients, 100 patients from the public sector and 100 patients from the private sector, participated in the survey. The results showed significant differences in response when patients were stratified by age, gender, visit frequency and length of time attending the same practice. Significant differences between public and private practices were encountered. Moreover, the degree of patient satisfaction was found to be related to appointment promptness/length of time and the confidentiality/ability to listen/knowledge/respect shown by the dentist, while patients' recommendations to others were influenced by dentists' explanations and warmth, followed by the appointment system and confidentiality. Patient satisfaction with oral rehabilitation dental services plays an essential role in maintaining patients' addressability, but there is a multitude of factors that can influence patients' opinions. Further analysis of the evolution of the influencing factors (causing satisfaction or dissatisfaction), in time, could provide deeper insights into the links between patient satisfaction and these factors.

Abstract
The World Health Organization member states proposed a comprehensive "Global Strategy on Oral Health," which includes achieving universal oral health coverage by 2030. Challenges and barriers, including persistent inequalities, will hamper the achievement of universal oral health coverage. In low- and middle-income countries, the oral health of a large proportion of the population has been neglected, increasing oral health inequalities. In high-income countries, some receive excessive dental treatment, whilst particularly those with higher needs receive too little dental care. Therefore, an analysis of individual countries' needs, encompassing the training of oral health professionals in a new philosophy of care and attention and the optimisation of the existing resources, is necessary. Distancing from a person-centred focus has prompted individual and societal issues, including under-/overdiagnosis and under-/overtreatment. The person-centred approach considers the perceptions, needs, preferences, and circumstances of individuals and populations. Patient-reported outcome measures, such as self-rated and -reported health, reflect an individual's overall perception of health and are designed to mediate human biology (ie, the disease) and psychology. The usage of patient-reported outcome measures in dentistry to place the individual at the centre of treatment is delayed compared to other areas. This paper discusses some challenges and potential solutions of patient-reported outcome measures in dentistry for achieving universal oral health coverage.

Abstract
It is unclear how well self-rated oral health (SROH) reflects actual oral health status in the rural Australian population. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the clinically assessed oral health status and SROH of adults living in rural Australia. The data were from 574 participants who took part in the Crossroads II cross-sectional study. Three trained and calibrated dentists evaluated the oral health status of participants based on WHO criteria. SROH was assessed with the question 'Overall, how would you rate the health of your teeth and gums?', with a score ranging from excellent = 5 to poor = 1. A logistic regression analysis (LRA) was performed, allowing us to assess factors associated with SROH. The mean age of participants was 59.2 years (SD 16.3), and 55.3% were female. The key results from the LRA show poorer SROH in those with more missing teeth (OR = 1.05; 95% CI; 1.01-1.08), more decayed teeth (OR = 1.28; 95% CI: 1.11-1.46), and more significant clinical attachment loss of periodontal tissue (6mm or more) (OR = 2.63; 95% CI: 1.29-5.38). This study found an association between negative SROH and clinical indicators used to measure poor oral health status, suggesting that self-rated oral health is an indicator of oral health status. When planning dental healthcare programs, self-reported oral health should be considered a proxy measure for oral health status.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: Oral health is one of the most significant issues in public health. The Decayed, Missing, and Filled Teeth (DMFT) Index is a useful tool for assessing and measuring the state of oral health in a community. This study aimed to evaluate oral health knowledge, attitudes, and practices among participants who visited a dental clinic at King Faisal University and to evaluate their DMFT scores. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional, questionnaire-based study was conducted at the King Faisal University dental complex, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, using a simple random sampling technique. The data were collected using a self-administered structured questionnaire in English and Arabic. All statistical analyses were carried out using the SPSS 20 software. A chi square and ANOVA test were used to assess the association. A p value of <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: There were a total of 260 participants, of whom 193 (74.2%) were male and 67 (25.8%) were female. Most participants, 173 (66.5%), were between the ages of 18 and 28. The majority of the participants 191 (73.5%) believed that bad oral hygiene led to gum disease. Additionally, major issues while visiting dental clinics, the importance of routine dental clinic visits, the existence of a connection between oral and general health, brushing time and frequency of change of used brush were significantly influenced by gender (p < 0.05). In terms of the DMFT index, mean numbers of decaying teeth (D) were 4.82 ± 4.15, mean numbers of missing teeth (M) were 1.56 ± 2.94, mean numbers of filled teeth (F) were 5.17 ± 5.28 and mean DMFT score was 11.56 ± 6.32, with a statistically significant difference observed (p < 0.001). Conclusions: This study concluded that, although some of the study participants neglected oral hygiene practices, the majority of participants had good knowledge and attitudes regarding the significance of oral hygiene. Owing to inadequate practices, the decayed, missing, and filled teeth scores increased with increasing age. Additionally, gender had no significant impact on the mean scores for decayed, missing, and filled teeth, although there were significant differences between age groups.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The 4-dimensional (4D) structure of oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL), comprising of the dimensions Oral Function, Orofacial Pain, Orofacial Appearance, and Psychosocial Impact, is clinically plausible and psychometrically solid. The original Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP) instrument and its short-form versions have been proven to lend themselves well to the assessment of these 4 OHRQoL dimensions. However, whether this 4-dimensional approach to oral health impact characterization can be performed on a global scale, that is, for most of the world's population, is not known. The purpose of this study was perform a systematic review to identify all cross-cultural adaptations of OHIP versions with 49, 20/19, 14, and 5 items. The global availability of 4D oral health impact characterization was investigated. METHODS We performed searches of electronic databases- Scopus, Pubmed, Web of Science, along with hand searching in June 2022 to identify all cross-cultural language adaptations of the different OHIP versions available in the literature. Whether the 4D oral health impact assessment can be considered a global approach was judged based on the criteria whether 4D psychometric information was available for at least 75% of the most widely spoken languages with an OHIP version. RESULTS We identified 82 studies with a total of 90 individual OHIP language versions for 45 languages. Among the top 20 languages with most first-language (native) speakers, 16 (80%) had OHIP versions. Among the top 20 languages with the most first- and second-language speakers, also 16 (80%) had OHIP versions. Of these 16 OHIP versions, across both language categories, 13 versions (81%) allowed for 4D oral health impact characterization. CONCLUSION Four-dimensional oral health impact assessment using the dimensions Oral Function, Orofacial Pain, Orofacial Appearance, and Psychosocial Impact can be considered a globally available approach given that OHIP versions with 4D information are readily available for most widely spoken languages. Thus, psychometrically sound, practical, and internationally comparable oral health impact characterization can be easily performed to study population oral health and determine oral disease impact and treatment efficacy for dental patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dental patients seeking care expect to receive treatment options that are supported by evidence-based dental research based on dental patient-reported outcomes (dPROs). In dental hygiene and dental therapy, there is little usage of dPROs and dental patient-reported outcome measures (dPROMs) to assess the four-dimensions of oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL). In order to assess the current evidence for dental hygiene and dental therapy interventions, the determination of distinct patient populations is essential. AIMS To determine patient populations that are clinically distinct groups of dental hygiene and dental therapy patients. To provide a preliminary literature search for a systematic review to identify interventions that provide four-dimensional oral health impact information for these patient populations. METHODS This narrative and methodological manuscript utilizes an allied dental expert panel consisting of two dental hygienists, two dental therapists, and a moderator to generate a list of clinically distinct patient populations within the scopes of dental hygiene and dental therapy. Additionally, a preliminary literature search utilizing PubMed was completed to assess the current research within the scopes of practice of dental hygiene and dental therapy that uses dPROs and dPROMs to assess the four-dimensions of OHRQoL. The patient population list generated by the allied dental expert panel and the patient populations from the articles identified in the preliminary literature search were compared to determine the needed and available evidence for dental hygiene and dental therapy interventions. RESULTS There were 19 distinct patient populations derived from the allied dental expert panel. Nine of the distinct patient populations were shared in the dental hygiene and dental therapy scopes of practice, six were specific to the dental hygiene scope of practice, and four were specific to the dental therapy scope of practice. From the preliminary literature search, five distinct patient populations had corresponding research. Of those, three distinct populations were shared between dental hygiene and dental therapy, and two were dental hygiene specific. There : were no distinct patient populations found from the preliminary search specific to dental therapy. CONCLUSION There is a lack of research in the dental hygiene and dental therapy scopes of practice regarding utilization of dPROs and dPROMs to assess the four-dimensions of OHRQoL. In order to standardize the assessment of OHRQoL, the development of a list of distinct patient populations for dental hygiene and dental therapy interventions is essential. This initiative identifies which populations are lacking evidence and provides a pragmatic approach to conducting a systematic review to assess the four-dimensions of OHRQoL in the field of dental hygiene and dental therapy.

Abstract
Much progress has been made this year in patient-reported outcomes related research. A number of important articles were published, shedding light on relevant methodological issues as well as future directions. In order to further promote the wide use of dental patient-reported outcomes (dPROs) and dental patient-reported outcome measures (dPROMs) in dental research and dental practice, and to provide novel insights into relevant measurement and analytical methods, the Journal of Evidence-Based Dental Practice has put together this special issue, the second of a series entitled Dental Patient-Reported Outcomes Update. To put Special Issue articles into a broader perspective, this review will provide a concise summary of key, relevant PRO and dPRO articles published during the year of 2022. A brief introduction of those manuscripts collected in this Special Issue follows. Six main domains are covered in this Special Issue: (i) the availability and applicability of dPROs and dPROMs, (ii) the current usage of dPROs and dPROMs in published research, (iii) methodological considerations in dPRO-related research, (iv) the landscape and trends of dPRO-related research, (v) the significance and relevance of dPRO usage, and (vi) dPROs and value-based oral health care.
