The changes in spatial layout of steel industry in China and associated pollutant emissions: A case of SO2

A method of gas-related pollution source layout based on multi-source data: A case study of shaanxi province, China

The location and layout of enterprises have an important impact on local air quality. However, a few studies on exploring of the optimal layout of gas-related enterprises from the perspective of optimizing the layout of air pollution sources. This study developed a method for the evaluation of air pollution source layout based on air pollutant emission inventory data, atmospheric self-purification capacity data, and satellite remote sensing air quality data. Taking Shaanxi Province as an example, the Moran's I index and GIS spatial analysis techniques were used to evaluate the layout of air pollution sources, analyze the spatial variation characteristics of air pollution sources, and propose specific countermeasures to optimize the layout of air pollution sources. Results showed that northern Shaanxi and Guanzhong Plain are the most unsuitable for the distribution of NOx and CO sources, accounting for 13.78% and 21.77% of the total area, respectively. The most suitable area for the distribution of NOx is southern Shaanxi, accounting for 65.77% of the total area, mainly concentrated in Hanzhong and Ankang regions. The most suitable area for the distribution of CO is southern Shaanxi, accounting for 40.97% of the total area, mainly concentrated in Hanzhong and Shangluo regions. The findings of this study could supplement and improve the evaluation of the layout of industrial enterprises in China from technical and methodological aspects, and provide new insight for local governments to adjust and optimize the layout of air pollution sources.

Spatiotemporal characteristics of air pollution in Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration (CCUA) in Southwest, China: 2015-2021

Studying the spatiotemporal characteristics of air pollutants in urban agglomerations and their response factors will help to improve the quality of urban living. In combining air quality monitoring data and wavelet analysis from the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration (CCUA), this study assessed the spatiotemporal distribution characteristics and influential factors of air pollutants on daily, monthly and annual scales. The results showed that the concentration of air pollutants in the CCUA has decreased year by year, and air quality has improved. Except for O₃, pollutants in autumn and winter were higher than those in summer. The spatial distribution of air pollutants was obvious distributed in Chengdu, Chongqing, Zigong and Dazhou. Pollution incidents were mainly concentrated in winter. The 6 air pollutants and air quality index (AQI) have dominant periods on multiple time scales. AQI showed positive coherence with PM_2.5 and PM₁₀ on multiple time scales, and obvious positive coherence with SO₂, CO, NO₂ and O₃ in the short term scale. AQI was not strongly correlated with the fire point, but exhibited obvious negative coherence in the long term scale. In addition, AQI showed an obvious positive correlation with temperature and sunshine hours in short term, and a clear negative correlation with humidity and rainfall. The research results of this paper will provide a reference for pollution prevention and control in the CCUA.

Selective detection of HSO3- in living cells using a pyrroloquinoline structure containing turn-on fluorescent probe

A turn-on fluorescence probe PQP-1 with a pyrroloquinoline skeleton has been designed and synthesized. Probe PQP-1 showed high sensitivity to HSO₃^-, low detection limit (16.83 nM), and a wide linear range (50-3000 μM). More importantly, probe PQP-1 could distinguish between HSO₃^- and SO₃^2-. Furthermore, cell imaging experiments of HSO₃^- in HeLa cells revealed that probe PQP-1 had potential application value in biological systems.
