Abstract
Treatment of the double nuclear complex 1a, di-μ-cloro-bis[N-(4-formylbenzylidene)cyclohexylaminato-C6, N]dipalladium, with Ph2PCH2CH2)2PPh (triphos) and NH4PF6 gave the single nuclear species 2a, 1-N-(cyclohexylamine)-4-N-(formyl)palladium(triphos)(hexafluorophasphate). Reaction of 2a with Ph2PCH2CH2NH2 in refluxing chloroform via a condensation reaction of the amine and formyl groups to produce the C=N double bond, gave 3a, 1-N-(cyclohexylamine)-4- N-(diphenylphosphinoethylamine)palladium(triphos)(hexafluorophasphate); a potentially bidentate [N,P] metaloligand. However, attempts to coordinate a second metal by treatment of 3a with [PdCl2(PhCN)2] were to no avail. Notwithstanding, complexes 2a and 3a left to stand in solution spontaneously self-transformed to give in either case the double nuclear complex 10, 1,4-N,N-terephthalylidene(cyclohexilamine)-3,6-[bispalladium(triphos)]di(hexafluorophosphate), after undergoing further metalation of the phenyl ring, then bearing two mutually trans [Pd(Ph2PCH2CH2)2PPh)-P,P,P] moieties: an unprecedented and serendipitous result indeed. On the other hand, reaction of the double nuclear complex 1b, di-μ-cloro-bis[N-(3-formylbenzylidene)cyclohexylaminato-C6, N]dipalladium, with Ph2PCH2CH2)2PPh (triphos) and NH4PF6 gave the single nuclear species 2b, 1-N-(cyclohexylamine)-4-N-(formyl)palladium(triphos)(hexafluorophasphate), Treatment of 2b with H2O/glacial MeCOOH gave cleavage of the C=N double bond and of the Pd···N interaction, yielding 5b, isophthalaldehyde-6-palladium(triphos)hexafluorophosphate, which then reacted with Ph2P(CH2)3NH2 to yield complex 6b, N,N-(isophthalylidene(diphenylphosphinopropylamine)-6-(palladiumtriphos)di(hexafluorophosphate), with two pairs of non-coordinated nitrogen and phosphorus donor atoms. Treatment of 6b with [PdCl2(PhCN)2], [PtCl2(PhCN)2], or [PtMe2(COD)] gave the new double nuclear complexes 7b, 8b and 9b, palladiumdichloro-, platinumdichloro- and platinumdimethyl[N,N-(isophthalylidene(diphenylphosphinopropylamine)-6-(palladiumtriphos)(hexafluorophosphate)-P,P], respectively, showing the behavior of 6b as a palladated bidentate [P,P] metaloligand. The complexes were fully characterized by microanalysis, IR, 1H, and 31P NMR spectroscopies, as appropriate. The X-ray single-crystal analyses for compounds 10 and 5b have been previously described as the perchlorate salts by JM Vila et al.

Abstract
The current research work presented the synthesis of carboxymethyl cellulose-gelatin (CMC/GEL) blend and CMC/GEL/ZnO-Nps hydrogel films which were characterized by FT-IR and XRD, and applied to antibacterial and antioxidant activities for food preservation as well as for biomedical applications. ZnO-Nps were incorporated into the carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and gelatin (GEL) film-forming solution by solution casting followed by sonication. Homogenous mixing of ZnO-Nps with CMC/GEL blend improved thermal stability, mechanical properties, and moisture content of the neat CMC/GEL films. Further, a significant improvement was observed in the antibacterial activity and antioxidant properties of CMC/GEL/ZnO films against two food pathogens, Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Overall, CMC/GEL/ZnO films are eco-friendly and can be applied in sustainable food packaging materials.

Abstract
Bridge splitting reactions between [Pd(C2,N-dmba)(μ-X)]2 (dmba = N,N-dimethylbenzylamine; X = Cl, I, N3, NCO) and 2,6-lutidine (lut) in the 1:2 molar ratio at room temperature afforded cyclopalladated compounds of general formulae [Pd(C2,N-dmba)(X)(lut)] {X = Cl- (1), I-(2), NNN-(3), NCO-(4)}, which were characterized by elemental analyses and infrared (IR), 1H NMR spectroscopy. The molecular structures of all synthesized palladacycles have been solved by single-crystal X-ray crystallography. The cytotoxicity of the cyclopalladated compounds has been evaluated against a panel of murine {mammary carcinoma (4T1) and melanoma (B16F10-Nex2)} and human {melanoma (A2058, SK-MEL-110 and SK-MEL-5) tumor cell lines. All complexes were about 10 to 100-fold more active than cisplatin, depending on the tested tumor cell line. For comparison purposes, the cytotoxic effects of 1-4 towards human lung fibroblasts (MRC-5) have also been tested. The late apoptosis-inducing properties of 1-4 compounds in SK-MEL-5 cells were verified 24 h incubation using annexin V-Fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC)/propidium iodide (PI). The binding properties of the model compound 1 on human serum albumin (HSA) and calf thymus DNA (ct-DNA) have been studied using circular dichroism and fluorescence spectroscopy. Docking simulations have been carried out to gain more information about the interaction of the palladacycle and HSA. The ability of compounds 1-4 to inhibit the activity of cathepsin B and L has also been investigated in this work.

On the stability and biological behavior of cyclometallated Pt(IV) complexes with halido and aryl ligands in the axial positions. Bioorg Med Chem 2016; 24:5804-5815. Abstract
A series of cyclometallated platinum(IV) compounds (3a, 3a' and 3b') with a meridional [C,N,N'] terdentate ligand, featuring an halido and an aryl group in the axial positions has been evaluated for electrochemical reduction and preliminary biological behavior against a panel of human adenocarcinoma (A-549 lung, HCT-116 colon, and MCF-7 breast) cell lines and the normal bronquial epithelial BEAS-2B cells. Cathodic reduction potentials (shifting from -1.463 to -1.570V) reveal that the platinum(IV) compounds under study would be highly reluctant to be reduced in a biological environment. Actually ascorbic acid was not able to reduce complex 3a', the most prone to be reduced according its reduction potential, over a period of one week. These results suggest an intrinsic activity for the investigated platinum(IV) complexes (3a, 3a' and 3b'), which exhibit a remarkable cytotoxicity effectiveness (with IC50 values in the low micromolar range), even greater than that of cisplatin. The IC50 for A-549 lung cells and clog P values were found to follow the same trend: 3b'>3a'>3a. However, no correlation was observed between reduction potential and in vitro activity. As a representative example, cyclometallated platinum(IV) compound 3a', exercise its antiproliferative activity directly over non-microcytic A-549 lung cancer cells through a mixture of cell cycle arrest (13% arrest at G1 phase and 46% arrest at G2 phase) and apoptosis induction (increase of early apoptosis by 30 times with regard to control). To gain further insights into the mode of action of the investigated platinum(IV) complexes, drug uptake, cathepsin B inhibition and ROS generation were also evaluated. Interestingly an increased ROS generation could be related with the antiproliferative activity of the cyclometallated platinum(IV) series under study in the cisplatin-resistant A-549 lung and HCT-116 cancer cell lines.

Abstract
The synthesis and preliminary biological evaluation of neutral and cationic platinum derivatives of chiral 1-(1-naphthyl)ethylamine are reported, namely cycloplatinated neutral complexes [PtCl{(R or S)-NH(2)CH(CH(3))C(10)H(6)}(L)] [L = SOMe(2) ( 1-R or 1-S ), L = PPh(3) (2-R or 2-S), L = P(4-FC(6)H(4))(3) (3-R), L = P(CH(2))(3)N(3)(CH(2))(3) (4-R)], cycloplatinated cationic complexes [Pt{(R)-NH(2)CH(CH(3))C(10)H(6)}{L}]Cl [L = Ph(2)PCH(2)CH(2)PPh(2) (5-R), L = (C(6)F(5))(2)PCH(2)CH(2)P(C(6)F(5))(2) (6-R)] and the Pt(ii) coordination compound trans-[PtCl(2){(R)-NH(2)CH(CH(3))C(10)H(6)}(2)] (7-R). The X-ray molecular structure of 7-R is reported. The cytotoxic activity against a panel of human adenocarcinoma cell lines (A-549 lung, MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 breast, and HCT-116 colon), cell cycle arrest and apoptosis, DNA interaction, topoisomerase I and cathepsin B inhibition, and Pt cell uptake of the studied compounds are presented. Remarkable cytotoxicity was observed for most of the synthesized Pt(ii) compounds regardless of (i) the absolute configuration R or S, and (ii) the coordinated/cyclometallated (neutral or cationic) nature of the complexes. The most potent compound 2-R (IC(50) = 270 nM) showed a 148-fold increase in potency with regard to cisplatin in HCT-116 colon cancer cells. Preliminary biological results point out to different biomolecular targets for the investigated compounds. Neutral cyclometallated complexes 1-R and 2-R, modify the DNA migration as cisplatin, cationic platinacycle 5-R was able to inhibit topoisomerase I-promoted DNA supercoiling, and Pt(ii) coordination compound 7-R turned out to be the most potent inhibitor of cathepsin B. Induction of G-1 phase ( 2-R and 5-R ), and S and G-2 phases (6-R) arrests are related to the antiproliferative activity of some representative compounds upon A-549 cells. Induction of apoptosis is also observed for 2-R and 6-R.
