Abstract
Motor Imagery (MI) based brain-computer interface (BCI) systems are used for regaining the motor functions of neurophysiologically affected persons. But the performance of MI tasks is degraded due to the presence of redundant EEG channels. Hence, a novel ensemble regulated neighborhood component analysis (ERNCA) method provides a perfect identification of neural region that stimulate motor movements. Domains of statistical, frequency, spatial and transform-based features narrowed down the misclassification rate. The gradient boosting method selects the relevant features thereby reduces the computational complexity. Finally, Bayesian optimized ensemble classifier finetuned the classification accuracies of 97.22 % and 91.62 % for Datasets IIIa and IVa respectively. This approach is further strengthened by analyzing real-time data with the accuracy of 93.75 %. This method qualifies out of four benchmark methods with significant percent of improvement in accuracy for these three datasets. As per the spatial distribution of refined EEG channels, majority of the brain's motor functions concentrates on frontal and central cortex regions of brain.

Abstract
Background: In motor imagery brain-computer interface (MI-BCI) research, electroencephalogram (EEG) signals are complex and nonlinear. This complexity and nonlinearity render signal processing and classification challenging when employing traditional linear methods. Information entropy, with its intrinsic nonlinear characteristics, effectively captures the dynamic behavior of EEG signals, thereby addressing the limitations of traditional methods in capturing linear features. However, the multitude of entropy types leads to unclear application scenarios, with a lack of systematic descriptions. Methods: This study conducted a review of 63 high-quality research articles focused on the application of entropy in MI-BCI, published between 2019 and 2023. It summarizes the names, functions, and application scopes of 13 commonly used entropy measures. Results: The findings indicate that sample entropy (16.3%), Shannon entropy (13%), fuzzy entropy (12%), permutation entropy (9.8%), and approximate entropy (7.6%) are the most frequently utilized entropy features in MI-BCI. The majority of studies employ a single entropy feature (79.7%), with dual entropy (9.4%) and triple entropy (4.7%) being the most prevalent combinations in multiple entropy applications. The incorporation of entropy features can significantly enhance pattern classification accuracy (by 8-10%). Most studies (67%) utilize public datasets for classification verification, while a minority design and conduct experiments (28%), and only 5% combine both methods. Conclusions: Future research should delve into the effects of various entropy features on specific problems to clarify their application scenarios. As research methodologies continue to evolve and advance, entropy features are poised to play a significant role in a wide array of fields and contexts.

Abstract
Climate and landscape structure are widely recognized as the primary drivers of soil erosion; however, the spatiotemporal variability of their effects remains insufficiently understood, limiting our comprehension of the dynamic processes of soil erosion. To address this gap, this study analyzed soil erosion trends on the Loess Plateau from 2000 to 2018. extreme Gradient Boosting was used to identify key climatic and landscape structural factors, while a geographically and temporally weighted regression model was applied to assess the spatiotemporal variability of these influences. The results indicate a decreasing trend in soil erosion from 2000 to 2008, followed by a sharp increase from 2008 to 2018. Grassland edge density emerged as the most important factor, followed closely by grassland percentage and annual precipitation. Temporally, the positive effect of annual precipitation has been intensifying since 2010, contributing to increased erosion, while landscape structural factors progressively enhanced their hydrological regulatory roles, reflecting dynamic interactions with climate. Spatially, the direction of climatic influences remained generally stable, consistently promoting erosion, although by 2018, the effects of average annual temperature and annual sunshine duration reversed to suppress erosion in specific areas. In contrast, landscape structural influences exhibited greater spatial variability, often fluctuating or reversing depending on topography, human activity, and land use. This variability applied specifically and differentially to each metric of fragmentation and diversity, highlighting the critical importance of trade-offs in landscape management. The findings emphasize the complexity and dynamics of soil erosion in response to climate and landscape structure, suggesting implications for the development of spatially targeted soil erosion control strategies that accommodate the phases of temporal variation.

Abstract
Non-invasive brain-computer interfaces (BCI) hold great promise in the field of neurorehabilitation. They are easy to use and do not require surgery, particularly in the area of motor imagery electroencephalography (EEG). However, motor imagery EEG signals often have a low signal-to-noise ratio and limited spatial and temporal resolution. Traditional deep neural networks typically only focus on the spatial and temporal features of EEG, resulting in relatively low decoding and accuracy rates for motor imagery tasks. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a 3D Convolutional Neural Network (P-3DCNN) decoding method that jointly learns spatial-frequency feature maps from the frequency and spatial domains of the EEG signals. First, the Welch method is used to calculate the frequency band power spectrum of the EEG, and a 2D matrix representing the spatial topology distribution of the electrodes is constructed. These spatial-frequency representations are then generated through cubic interpolation of the temporal EEG data. Next, the paper designs a 3DCNN network with 1D and 2D convolutional layers in series to optimize the convolutional kernel parameters and effectively learn the spatial-frequency features of the EEG. Batch normalization and dropout are also applied to improve the training speed and classification performance of the network. Finally, through experiments, the proposed method is compared to various classic machine learning and deep learning techniques. The results show an average decoding accuracy rate of 86.69%, surpassing other advanced networks. This demonstrates the effectiveness of our approach in decoding motor imagery EEG and offers valuable insights for the development of BCI.

Abstract
Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common progressive neurological condition after Alzheimer's. The significant number of individuals afflicted with this illness makes it essential to develop a method to diagnose the conditions in their early phases. PD is typically identified from motor symptoms or via other Neuroimaging techniques. Expensive, time-consuming, and unavailable to the general public, these methods are not very accurate. Another issue to be addressed is the black-box nature of machine learning methods that needs interpretation. These issues encourage us to develop a novel technique using Shapley additive explanations (SHAP) and Hard Voting Ensemble Method based on voice signals to diagnose PD more accurately. Another purpose of this study is to interpret the output of the model and determine the most important features in diagnosing PD. The present article uses Pearson Correlation Coefficients to understand the relationship between input features and the output. Input features with high correlation are selected and then classified by the Extreme Gradient Boosting, Light Gradient Boosting Machine, Gradient Boosting, and Bagging. Moreover, the weights in Hard Voting Ensemble Method are determined based on the performance of the mentioned classifiers. At the final stage, it uses SHAP to determine the most important features in PD diagnosis. The effectiveness of the proposed method is validated using 'Parkinson Dataset with Replicated Acoustic Features' from the UCI machine learning repository. It has achieved an accuracy of 85.42%. The findings demonstrate that the proposed method outperformed state-of-the-art approaches and can assist physicians in diagnosing Parkinson's cases.

Abstract
Decoding motor imagery (MI) using deep learning in cortical level has potential in brain computer interface based intelligent rehabilitation. However, a mass of dipoles is inconvenient to extract the personalized features and requires a more complex neural network. In consideration of the structural and functional similarity of the neurons in a neuroanatomical region, i.e., a region of interest (ROI), we propose that the comprehensive performance of each ROI may be reflected by a specific representative dipole (RD), and the time-frequency spectrums of all RDs are applied simultaneously to Random Forest algorithm to give a quantitative metric of each ROI importance (RI). Then, the more divided sub-band spectral powers are reinforced by RI, and they are interpolated to a 2-dimensional (2D) plane transformed from 3D space of all RDs, yielding an ensemble representation of RD feature image sequences (ERDFIS). Furthermore, a lightweight network, including 2D separable convolution and gated recurrent unit (2DSCG), is developed to extract and classify the frequency-spatial and temporal features from ERDFIS, forming a novel MI decoding method in cortical level (called ERDFIS-2DSCG). Based on two public datasets, the decoding accuracies of ten-fold cross-validation are 89.89% and 94.35%, respectively. The results suggest that RD can embody the overall property of ROI in time-frequency-space domains, and ROI importance is helpful to highlight the subject-based characteristics of MI-EEG. Meanwhile, 2DSCG is matched well with ERDFIS, jointly improving the decoding performance.

Abstract
Electroencephalogram (EEG) is a non-stationary random signal with strong background noise, which makes its feature extraction difficult and recognition rate low. This paper presents a feature extraction and classification model of motor imagery EEG signals based on wavelet threshold denoising. Firstly, this paper uses the improved wavelet threshold algorithm to obtain the denoised EEG signal, divides all EEG channel data into multiple partially overlapping frequency bands, and uses the common spatial pattern (CSP) method to construct multiple spatial filters to extract the characteristics of EEG signals. Secondly, EEG signal classification and recognition are realized by the support vector machine algorithm optimized by a genetic algorithm. Finally, the dataset of the third brain-computer interface (BCI) competition and the dataset of the fourth BCI competition is selected to verify the classification effect of the algorithm. The highest accuracy of this method for two BCI competition datasets is 92.86% and 87.16%, respectively, which is obviously superior to the traditional algorithm model. The accuracy of EEG feature classification is improved. It shows that an overlapping sub-band filter banks common spatial pattern-genetic algorithms optimization-support vector machines (OSFBCSP-GAO-SVM) model is an effective model for feature extraction and classification of motor imagination EEG signals.

Abstract
Navigation in virtual worlds is ubiquitous in games and other virtual reality (VR) applications and mainly relies on external controllers. As brain-computer interfaces (BCI)s rely on mental control, bypassing traditional neural pathways, they provide to paralyzed users an alternative way to navigate. However, the majority of BCI-based navigation studies adopt cue-based visual paradigms, and the evoked brain responses are encoded into navigation commands. Although robust and accurate, these paradigms are less intuitive and comfortable for navigation compared to imagining limb movements (motor imagery, MI). However, decoding motor imagery from EEG activity is notoriously challenging. Typically, wet electrodes are used to improve EEG signal quality, including a large number of them to discriminate between movements of different limbs, and a cuedbased paradigm is used instead of a self-paced one to maximize decoding performance. Motor BCI applications primarily focus on typing applications or on navigating a wheelchair-the latter raises safety concerns-thereby calling for sensors scanning the environment for obstacles and potentially hazardous scenarios. With the help of new technologies such as virtual reality (VR), vivid graphics can be rendered, providing the user with a safe and immersive experience; and they could be used for navigation purposes, a topic that has yet to be fully explored in the BCI community. In this study, we propose a novel MI-BCI application based on an 8-dry-electrode EEG setup, with which users can explore and navigate in Google Street View®. We pay attention to system design to address the lower performance of the MI decoder due to the dry electrodes' lower signal quality and the small number of electrodes. Specifically, we restricted the number of navigation commands by using a novel middle-level control scheme and avoided decoder mistakes by introducing eye blinks as a control signal in different navigation stages. Both offline and online experiments were conducted with 20 healthy subjects. The results showed acceptable performance, even given the limitations of the EEG set-up, which we attribute to the design of the BCI application. The study suggests the use of MI-BCI in future games and VR applications for consumers and patients temporarily or permanently devoid of muscle control.
