Abstract
Introduction Persistent pain is a leading cause of medical discharges for Veterans. Pain science education (PSE) aims to better people's understanding about pain and is effective at reducing pain and depressive symptoms in Veterans. Preliminary evidence suggests virtual reality (VR)-delivered PSE has clinical benefits for people with persistent pain. This study investigated the acceptability, feasibility, and usability for VR-PSE for Veterans with persistent pain. Methods Veterans (n = 7) and healthcare professionals (HCPs) experienced in treating Veterans (n = 5) participated in workshops that involved working through the VR-PSE program, online questionnaires, and a focus group. Quantitative data were analysed by descriptive statistics. Qualitative data were analysed using a framework analysis according to the Theoretical Framework of Acceptability (TFA). A mixed-methods analysis combined the quantitative and qualitative data via triangulation, with the findings presented according to the TFA domains. Results The VR-PSE program was considered easy to use, engaging, and adaptable for different functional capabilities. Appropriate screening for contraindications prior to using the VR-PSE program was considered important by HCPs. Both Veterans and HCPs emphasized the need for a trusting client-clinician relationship to improve the acceptability of the VR-PSE program. Discussion Overall, the VR-PSE program was found to be acceptable, feasible, and usable and may be a useful tool to incorporate into the clinical management of Veterans with persistent pain. Further research is needed to investigate the efficacy of VR-PSE programs on clinical outcomes for Veterans with persistent pain.

Abstract
Purpose Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) has shown efficacy for alleviating chronic low back pain (cLBP) and is included in current treatment guidelines. However, benefits are moderate. We aimed to optimize MBSR for chronic pain by using recent research to develop Mindfulness-Based Pain Reduction (MBPR) and test it in patients with cLBP. Patients and Methods Phase 1: We modified the MBSR curriculum with theory-driven components and convened focus groups with local and international mindfulness and clinical pain management experts to refine an 8-week MBPR program. Phase 2: We recruited participants with cLBP from Northern California using outreach in newsletters, social media, and other methods to test and iteratively modify the curriculum. MBPR was delivered in a group format by videoconference. The first three groups received MBPR; a fourth group was randomized to MBSR or MBPR to assess randomization feasibility. We assessed feasibility and acceptability by attendance, practice logs, and exit interviews. We assessed changes in patient-reported outcome measures for low back pain trials using a single arm (treatment group only) approach at 2 and 6 months with linear mixed models (primary: pain intensity and interference (PEG) scores). Results Phase 1: The MBPR curriculum included: 1) mindful interoceptive exposure to pain, 2) pain neuroscience education, and 3) yoga postures specifically for cLBP. Phase 2: we enrolled 58 patients in 4 cohorts; 49 completed post-intervention and 41 completed 6-month follow-up assessments; 29 of the 41 received MBPR. Participants attended a mean of 80% of sessions and 23 of 24 participants accepted randomization in the 4th cohort. Mean PEG scores improved for 20 of 29 MBPR participants in a clinically meaningful way (PEG scores >30%). Conclusion MBPR was feasible and acceptable. Two-thirds of MBPR participants experienced clinically meaningful improvements in pain intensity and interference scores. MBPR warrants further investigation through a randomized, controlled trial.

Abstract
Introduction Persistent pelvic pain is a prevalent condition that negatively impacts one's physical, psychological, social, and sexual wellbeing. Pain science education (PSE) involves learning about the biology of pain and is commonly integrated into the management of persistent pain. However, PSE is yet to be thoroughly investigated for persistent pelvic pain potentially due to the lack of targeted curricula, including learning concepts. The aim of this study was to gain consensus on PSE learning concepts important for persistent pelvic pain according to expert clinicians. Methods A three-round e-Delphi survey was conducted to generate and gain consensus on important PSE learning concepts for female persistent pelvic pain among 20 international, multidisciplinary expert clinicians (e.g., physiotherapists, gynaecologists, psychologists). Learning concepts generated by clinicians were rated by importance using a six-point Likert scale. Consensus on importance rating was considered reached for items with an IQR <1.0. Results The expert clinicians generated 125 PSE learning concepts that were considered important for persistent pelvic pain; 92 (73.6%) learning concepts reached consensus on their importance rating. Of the 125 learning concepts, 102 were generated for persistent pelvic pain in general, and were categorised into 13 overarching PSE concepts (e.g., persistent pelvic pain involves changes to the brain and nervous system). Sixteen PSE concepts were generated for specific pelvic pain conditions (e.g., endometriosis) and seven concepts for specific life stages (e.g., adolescence). Discussion This study provides the first list of key PSE concepts tailored for persistent pelvic pain developed by expert clinicians. These concepts provide a framework for developing and implementing PSE curricula for persistent pelvic pain in research and clinical settings.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Physiotherapists are critically positioned to integrate education into patient care, including pain science education (PSE) to enhance management and outcomes. Anecdotally, many physiotherapists report difficulty providing PSE in private practice settings. Here, we aimed to explore current PSE use, knowledge, and barriers to implementation. A nationwide online (Qualtrics) survey of PSE-trained Australian private practice physiotherapists assessed use, knowledge (revised Neurophysiology of Pain Questionnaire [rNPQ]), concept application, implementation barriers, and resource awareness/use/preferences, exploring associations with individual/clinic-level factors (clinical experience, PSE training, work location). A total of 278 physiotherapists (62.9% female, 39.4 [11.8] years, 15.2 [11.6] years of experience, 37.2% rural/remote) completed the survey. Pain science knowledge (rNPQ: mean 10.4 [2.2]/13) and perceived PSE competence was high, although 30% supported inaccurate PSE concepts. Pain science education training via professional development course was associated with higher knowledge relative to university training (multivariable; β = 1.337, P < 0.001). Physiotherapists reported providing PSE to 61% of patients, with patient-related barriers (expecting other treatments: 94%; previous negative/contradictory PSE experiences: 89%), clinic-level barriers (time constraints: 77%; insufficient billing schedules: 57%), and clinician-specific barriers (difficulties identifying/addressing patient maladaptive beliefs/behaviours: 53%; cultural/demographic translation challenges: 46%) reported. Fewer years of clinical experience was associated with heightened worry that providing PSE might go wrong (multivariable; β = -0.034, P = 0.010) and/or damage therapeutic relationships (multivariable; β = -0.049, P < 0.001). Physiotherapists were aware of over 100 PSE resources, with varying levels of perceived use/effectiveness, yet were largely unaware of educational strategies. Physiotherapists called for reduced complexity and greater ability to individualise PSE resources. Findings will guide improvements in PSE training/resources, to maximise physiotherapists' confidence and preparedness to effectively implement PSE.

Abstract
This chapter aims to explain and evaluate the evidence for psychological, physical and complementary therapies as part of a holistic plan for managing neuropathic pain. Psychological therapies refer to interventions targeting mental health, while physical therapies refer to interventions designed to target movement and functional ability, and complementary therapies are those that attempt to target key mechanisms of change to alter brain and body functioning, or thought processes related to the experience of pain. Each therapeutic modality is discussed to narratively report on the evidence and provide implications for clinicians. Where evidence was unavailable for neuropathic pain populations, evidence from chronic pain populations more broadly was considered. Although promising, there is a lack of high-quality evidence investigating the benefits and safety of psychological, physical and complementary therapies for the management of neuropathic pain. The low certainty evidence and lack of evidence across different neuropathic pain conditions impacts the ability to make recommendations for clinical practice. However, there are several potential areas for future research. Psychological therapies that focus on the underlying mechanisms related to emotion regulation may improve mood and pain, while cognitive and behavioural based approaches may improve psychological comorbidities such as anxiety and depression. Physical therapies involving physical activity and exercise, education, and graded motor imagery may improve functioning and reduce pain. Finally, complementary therapies including electroencephalography neurofeedback, acupuncture, virtual reality, hypnosis and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation may provide promising reductions in pain. There is a clear need for further high-quality trials to evaluate the benefits and safety of psychological, physical and complementary therapies to guide the management of neuropathic pain.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Pain in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is frequently neglected/overlooked, particularly in ulcerative colitis, and communication about pain can be suboptimal. The current study juxtaposes clinicians' conceptualisations of patients' pain with patient narratives. The aim was to inform the development of a pain reporting tool and provide guidance for better communication about IBD pain. METHODS In-depth semistructured interviews with 13 IBD clinicians in the UK: gastroenterologists (n=5), colorectal surgeons (n=2), specialist nurses (n=4) and psychologists (n=2). Primary analysis of these data and secondary analysis of earlier interviews about pain in IBD with clinicians (n=12) and patients (n=71) followed principles of reflexive thematic analysis. Themes were compared across participant groups. RESULTS Clinicians state that they regularly ask about pain in Crohn's disease, but not ulcerative colitis. Patients, however, report inconsistent attention to pain in either condition, with power dynamics constraining their pain report. Some clinicians acknowledged that they assume that patients manage their pain independently, leading to insufficient follow-up (Theme 1: Contradictions and ambiguities when discussing pain in IBD). Inadequate acknowledgement of pain by clinicians was attributed to time constraints and systemic issues. Where inflammatory or structural causes were lacking, some clinicians default to attributing pain to irritable bowel syndrome, contributing to patients feeling uncared for (Theme 2: Consequences of limited tools and time for pain). Addressing pain was further complicated by the reluctance of some patients to express discomfort or pain and others who avoided activities that might lead to pain (Theme 3: Addressing pain in patients who do not complain). CONCLUSION The study emphasises the importance of consistent pain evaluation and management, advocating for more open dialogues between clinicians and patients.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Pain science education (PSE) provides people with an understanding of "how pain works" grounded in the biopsychosocial model of pain; it has been demonstrated to improve outcomes in musculoskeletal pain conditions. Preliminary evidence suggests PSE may be effective for female individuals with persistent pelvic pain, but how the content of PSE needs to be modified for this group remains to be determined. A reflexive thematic analysis of qualitative data was performed to identify PSE concepts that female individuals with persistent pelvic pain consider important and why. Twenty individual, semistructured interviews were conducted with adult females who had engaged with PSE and had self-identified as having "improved" pelvic pain. Most participants had been diagnosed with endometriosis (n = 16). Four themes were generated capturing PSE concepts considered important by female individuals with "improved" pelvic pain: (1) "A sensitised nervous system leads to overprotective pain" validated their pelvic pain as being real; (2) "Pain does not have to mean the body is damaged (although sometimes it does)" provided reassurance that pelvic pain does not mean their condition is worsening; (3) "How I think, feel, and 'see' my pain can make it worse" enabled participants to find optimal ways to manage their pain; and (4) "I can change my pain… slowly" provided hope that pelvic pain can improve and empowered them to pursue pain improvement as a viable goal. This study generated 4 PSE learning concepts that were important to female individuals with improved pelvic pain and may be incorporated into PSE curricula for female individuals with pelvic pain.

Abstract
Pain science education (PSE) is an important component of pediatric pain care; however, access to services is limited. To disseminate pain science concepts on social media, we partnered with adolescents with chronic pain to codesign content. We engaged 7 adolescent codesigners (aged 13-18 years) with lived experience of chronic pain to take part in 4 codesign workshops. Codesigners actively contributed to the social media campaign by selecting the social media platform, dictating design principles, generating metaphors and language, and recommending changes to mock designs. Codesigners suggested expanding the intended audience of the campaign to include people without a lived experience of chronic pain, such as friends, family, and teachers, alongside targeting adolescents with chronic pain. We published 30 posts and 102 stories over an 18-week period on Instagram, which reached over 40,000 individuals. We evaluated codesigners' experience, where they reported having clear communication and necessary supports and information to participate; were able to share their ideas and felt they were heard; and felt their input was making a difference. The outputs of this campaign could be useful to guide the tailoring of other PSE content delivered by clinicians as part of clinical care. Future testing of the content generated in this codesign process could evaluate if it leads to meaningful changes in the lives of people with chronic pain. PERSPECTIVE: Researchers partnered with adolescents with chronic pain to codesign content for a social media campaign on PSE. Adolescent codesigners actively shaped the campaign direction, broadening its scope to reach diverse audiences. Our Instagram initiative reached over 40,000 individuals, indicating the potential for innovative educational approaches.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Patient education has a critical role in the management of pain. There is considerable heterogeneity in patient education for females with persistent pelvic pain (PPP), and it remains unclear what is considered best clinical practice. Therefore, this systematic review identified and summarised recommendations for patient education in the management of benign gynaecological and urological conditions associated with PPP, as endorsed by international guidelines. Academic and relevant guideline databases were searched from inception to May 2022. Included guidelines were those for the management of benign gynaecological and urological conditions associated with PPP in adult females published in English, of any publication date, and endorsed by a professional organisation or society. Two independent reviewers screened 3097 records; 17 guidelines were included in the review. Guideline quality was assessed using the Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation II (AGREE-II) tool. Recommendations were pooled using descriptive synthesis. Persistent pelvic pain guideline quality was generally poor. Three guidelines were classified as "excellent" (The NICE, RANZCOG, and ESHRE endometriosis guidelines) and therefore recommended for use. Eleven guidelines (64.7%) recommended patient education for females with PPP. Recommendations for education content were variable, however most frequently covered treatment strategies and pelvic pain diagnoses. For education delivery, the most frequent recommendations were for support groups and written/printed materials. Further research into tailored education interventions is needed for females with PPP.

Abstract
Since it emerged in the early 2000's, intensive education about 'how pain works', widely known as pain neuroscience education or explaining pain, has evolved into a new educational approach, with new content and new strategies. The substantial differences from the original have led the PETAL collaboration to call the current iteration 'Pain Science Education'. This review presents a brief historical context for Pain Science Education, the clinical trials, consumer perspective, and real-world clinical data that have pushed the field to update both content and method. We describe the key role of educational psychology in driving this change, the central role of constructivism, and the constructivist learning frameworks around which Pain Science Education is now planned and delivered. We integrate terminology and concepts from the learning frameworks currently being used across the PETAL collaboration in both research and practice-the Interactive, Constructive, Active, Passive framework, transformative learning theory, and dynamic model of conceptual change. We then discuss strategies that are being used to enhance learning within clinical encounters, which focus on the skill, will, and thrill of learning. Finally, we provide practical examples of these strategies so as to assist the reader to drive their own patient pain education offerings towards more effective learning. PERSPECTIVE: Rapid progress in several fields and research groups has led to the emergence 'Pain Science Education'. This PETAL review describes challenges that have spurred the field forward, the learning frameworks and educational strategies that are addressing those challenges, and some easy wins to implement and mistakes to avoid.

Abstract
Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a rare pain disorder that usually occurs in a limb after trauma. The features of this disorder include severe pain and sensory, autonomic, motor, and trophic abnormalities. Research from the past decade has offered new insights into CRPS epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment. Early identification of individuals at high risk of CRPS is improving, with several risk factors established and some others identified in prospective studies during the past 5 years. Better understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms of CRPS has led to its classification as a chronic primary pain disorder, and subtypes of CRPS have been updated. Procedures for diagnosis have also been clarified. Although effective treatment of CRPS remains a challenge, evidence-based integrated management approaches provide new opportunities to improve patient care. Further advances in diagnosis and treatment of CRPS will require coordinated, international multicentre initiatives.

Abstract
Persistent pain is a major public health issue-estimated to affect a quarter of the world's population. Public understanding of persistent pain is based on outdated biomedical models, laden with misconceptions that are contrary to best evidence. This understanding is a barrier to effective pain management. Thus, there have been calls for public health-based interventions to address these misconceptions. Previous pain-focussed public education campaigns have targeted pain beliefs and behaviours that are thought to promote recovery, such as staying active. However, prevailing pain-related misconceptions render many of these approaches counter-intuitive, at best. Pain Science Education improves understanding of 'how pain works' and has been demonstrated to improve pain and disability outcomes. Extending Pain Science Education beyond the clinic to the wider community seems warranted. Learning from previous back pain-focussed and other public health educational campaigns could optimise the potential benefit of such a Pain Science Education campaign. Pain Science Education-grounded campaigns have been delivered in Australia and the UK and show promise, but robust evaluations are needed before any firm conclusions on their population impact can be made. Several challenges exist going forward. Not least is the need to ensure all stakeholders are involved in the development and implementation of Pain Science Education public messaging campaigns. Furthermore, it is crucial that campaigns are undertaken through a health equity lens, incorporating underrepresented communities to ensure that any intervention does not widen existing health inequalities associated with persistent pain. PERSPECTIVE: Public misconceptions about pain are a significant public health challenge and a viable intervention target to reduce the personal, social, and economic burden of persistent pain. Adaptation of Pain Science Education, which improves misconceptions in a clinical setting, into the public health setting seems a promising approach to explore.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of adding pain science or ergonomics messages to guideline advice on feelings of reassurance and management intentions among people with acute low back pain (LBP). DESIGN: Three-arm parallel-group randomized experiment. METHODS: We recruited people with acute LBP (pain for ≤6 weeks) to participate in an online experiment. Participants were randomized at a 1:1:1 ratio to one of three groups: guideline advice alone or guideline advice with the addition of brief pain science or ergonomics messages. The intervention was delivered via prerecorded videos in all 3 groups. Coprimary outcomes were reassurance that (1) no serious condition is causing LBP and (2) continuing with daily activities is safe. Secondary outcomes were perceived risk of developing chronic pain, management intentions (bed rest, see a health professional, see a specialist, and imaging), credibility, and relevance of the advice in addressing the participant's concerns. RESULTS: Two thousand two hundred ninety-seven responses (99.3% of 2,313 randomized) were analyzed. Adding brief pain science or ergonomics messages to guideline advice did not change reassurance that LBP was not caused by serious disease. The addition of ergonomics advice provided worse reassurance that it is safe to continue with daily activities compared to guideline advice (mean difference [MD], -0.33; 95% CI: 0.13, 0.53). There was no difference between groups on management intentions. CONCLUSION: Adding pain science or ergonomics messages to guideline advice did not increase reassurance or change management intentions in people with acute LBP. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Validly and reliably assessing conceptual change is essential for evaluating the effectiveness of pain science education for physiotherapy students. We aimed to 1) evaluate concept of pain before and after a 14-week pain science education university subject, 2) assess structural validity of the Concept of Pain Inventory for Adults (COPI-Adult) in postgraduate entry-level physiotherapy students, and 3) explore possible relationships between baseline variables and baseline COPI-Adult scores. REVIEW OF LITERATURE As the COPI-Adult is a newly developed questionnaire, there is a lack of data regarding its psychometric properties. SUBJECTS Of 129 enrolled students at an Australian university, 124 (96%) and 114 (88%) completed the baseline and follow-up questionnaires, respectively. METHODS In this prospective cohort study, students who commenced the degree in 2020 or 2021 completed online questionnaires, including the COPI-Adult, at the start and end of their first semester. This semester included a 14-week pain science education subject and other physiotherapy-related subjects. Higher COPI-Adult scores (range = 0-52) indicate better alignment with contemporary pain science. We 1) compared differences in concept of pain before and after the semester, 2) performed a confirmatory factor analysis on the COPI-Adult, and 3) performed exploratory regression analyses. RESULTS Concept of Pain Inventory for Adults scores increased from baseline (median [interquartile range]: 39 [36-44]) to follow-up (48 [44-51]). The COPI-Adult retained its 1-factor structure, with acceptable internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.80). Exploratory analysis showed that previously completing a subject on pain was related to higher COPI-Adult baseline scores. Age, gender, and mental health diagnosis did not relate to baseline COPI-Adult scores. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION Following a 14-week pain science education subject embedded within a physiotherapy degree, students improved their concept of pain. The COPI-Adult maintains a 1-factor structure in this population. Completing a previous subject on pain was associated with higher COPI-Adult scores.

Abstract
Multiple influences prevent recovery from pain. Our viewpoint is that non-conscious emotional memory images (EMIs) triggers outdated stress responses contributing to the intractability of pain. In this perspectives article we explore the concept that EMIs contribute to the persistence of pain. We contend that psychophysiological "stress" responses, resulting from first-time, novel and unprecedented pernicious or adverse events form EMIs within very short time frames (split-second learning). Subsequently, these EMIs are re-triggered in daily living, "re-playing" stress responses. We postulate that EMIs continually "raise the alarm" to socio-ecological stimuli by re-triggering the HPA-axis and amplifying neural input associated with threat, fear, anxiety, and pain, creating a debilitating state of psychophysiological dis-ease. We position the EMI within a philosophical debate on the nature and locus of memory and explain how the EMI, irrespective of whether it is a "thing" or a metaphor, can create a basis of understanding for the client to grasp. We describe a therapeutic approach (Split-Second Unlearning) to "clear" EMIs and the "stickiness" of pain and help people embark on a healing journey. This involves surveillance of clients for micro-expression(s) signifying an in-the-moment stress response, representative of the presence of an EMI, and encouraging the client to become a curious observer within/of their own experience. This helps the client detach their EMI from its stress response. We contend that this occurs rapidly without the need to get bogged down in a whole-life narrative. We advocate further exploration of our EMI model of dis-ease in the context of intractable pain.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pain science education (PSE) is commonly integrated into treatments for childhood-onset chronic pain. A core component of PSE is learning about, and often reconceptualizing, the biology of chronic pain. Yet, few interventions have been developed specifically for young adults and little is known about how young adults conceptualize the biology of pain. This study used a qualitative methodology to examine how young adults with childhood-onset chronic pain understand the biology of pain, and the language they use in this meaning-making process, which may inform future interventions tailored to this age group. METHODS We identified a cohort of young adults with childhood onset chronic pain, and a subset of 17 young adults with continuing chronic pain completed individual, semi-structured interviews. Telephone interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim and analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. RESULTS We generated four themes that capture participants' conceptualizations of the biology of pain: (1) Something is wrong with the body, (2) An injury has not healed, (3) Nerves fire when they should not, (4) An overactive stress system. CONCLUSION These conceptualizations, and the language used by young adults with childhood-onset chronic pain to describe them are discussed. Recommendations are provided for how PSE interventions can be tailored for young adults. SIGNIFICANCE This study provides new qualitative insights reflecting a variety of ways that young adults with childhood-onset chronic pain conceptualize pain. Some conceptualizations of pain align with modern pain science principles (altered function of nervous and endocrine systems) while others conflict (unhealed injury). Health professionals can use these findings to tailor their pain education interventions by leveraging concepts that 'stick' for youth, being aware of, and interrogating, common misconceptions, and offering language and metaphors familiar to youth.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to determine the effect of enhancing conventional care for people with chronic painful temporomandibular disorders (TMD) with an individualised contemporary pain science education (PSE) intervention. In this randomized controlled trial, a consecutive sample of 148 participants (18-55 years of age) was randomized into 2 groups: PSE-enhanced conventional care or Conventional care alone. Conventional care involved a 6-week, 12-session manual therapy and exercise program. The PSE enhancement involved 2 sessions of modern PSE, undertaken in the first 2 treatment sessions. Primary outcomes were pain intensity, assessed with a numeric pain rating scale, and disability, assessed with the craniofacial pain and disability inventory, post-treatment. Linear mixed model analyses were used to investigate between-group differences over time. There was a statistically and clinically meaningful effect of PSE enhancement on disability (Mean Difference = 6.1, 95% CI: 3.3-8.8), but not on pain intensity, post-treatment. Secondary analyses suggested clinically meaningful benefit of PSE enhancement on pain and disability ratings at 10-week and 18-week follow-ups, raising the possibility that preceding conventional care with a PSE intervention may result in long-term benefits. PERSPECTIVE: The addition of modern Pain Science Education (PSE) intervention improved disability for people with chronic TMD receiving manual therapy and exercise, but not pain. A mean difference in pain and disability favoring the PSE group at the 10- and 18-week follow-ups, respectively, suggests that PSE addition resulted in longer-lasting effects. Abstract
PURPOSE Here, we describe the development and pilot study of a personalized eHealth intervention containing a pain science education program and self-management support strategies regarding pain and pain-related functioning in female survivors of breast cancer. First, we aimed to evaluate the eHealth intervention's acceptability, comprehensibility, and satisfaction; second, we aimed to assess its preliminary efficacy. METHODS A mixed-method study design was used. Breast cancer survivors with persistent pain were recruited. After 6 weeks of engagement with the eHealth intervention, acceptability, comprehensibility, and satisfaction were measured quantitatively with a self-constructed questionnaire and described qualitatively using focus groups. A joint display was used to present the meta-interferences between data. Efficacy was assessed via mixed effects models with repeated measures (outcomes assessed at baseline, 6 weeks, and 12 weeks). RESULTS Twenty-nine women with persistent pain after breast cancer surgery participated. Overall, the eHealth program was well received and experienced as easy to use and helpful. The eHealth intervention seems useful as an adjunct to comprehensive cancer aftercare. Efficacy estimates suggested a significant improvement in pain-related functioning, physical functioning, and quality of life. CONCLUSION A personalized eHealth intervention appears valuable for persistent pain management after breast cancer surgery. A large controlled clinical trial to determine effectiveness, and a full process evaluation, seems warranted.
