Abstract
Metal phthalocyaninates and their higher homologues are recognized as deep-red luminophores emitting from their lowest excited singlet state. Herein, we report on the design, synthesis, and in-depth characterization of a new class of dual-emissive (visible and NIR) metal naphthalocyaninates. A 4-N,N-dimethylaminophen-4-yl-substituted naphthalocyaninato zinc(II) complex (Zn-NMe2Nc) and the derived water-soluble coordination compound (Zn-NMe3Nc) exhibit a near-infrared fluorescence from the lowest ligand-centered state, along with a unique push-pull-supported luminescence in the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum. An unprecedentedly broad structural (2D-NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry) as well as photophysical characterization (steady-state state and time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy) is presented. The unique dual emission was assigned to two independent sets of singlet states related to the intrinsic Q-band of the macrocycle and to the push-pull substituents in the molecular periphery, respectively, as predicted by TD-DFT calculations. In general, the elusive chemical aspects of these macrocyclic compounds are addressed, involving both reaction conditions, thorough purification, and in-depth characterization. Besides the fundamental aspects that are investigated herein, the photoacoustic properties were exemplarily examined using phantom gels to assess their tomographic imaging capabilities. Finally, the robust luminescence in the visible range arising from the push-pull character of the peripheral moieties demonstrated a notable independence from aggregation and was exemplarily implemented for optical imaging (FLIM) through time-resolved multiphoton micro(spectro)scopy.

Abstract
In this work, a donor-acceptor substituted aromatic system ((E)-N-((E)-3-(4 (dimethylamino)phenyl) allylidene)-4-(trifluoromethyl) benzenamine (DPATB) has been synthesized and its detailed photophysics of intramolecular charge transfer process have been explored on the basis of steady state absorption, fluorescence and time resolved spectroscopy in combination with density functional theory calculations. Large solvent dependency fluorescence spectral shift and the calculated large excited state dipole moment clearly indicate an efficient charge transfer occurring from the donor group to the acceptor moiety in the excited state. Effect on addition of acid and pH on steady state spectral properties further reveals excited state charge transfer character. Quantum chemical calculations were performed in order to study the conformation and polarity of DPATB at their ground as well as excited electronic states. The HOMO and LUMO molecular orbital pictures are obtained at DFT level using B3LYP functional and 6-311 + g(d,p) basis set which clearly support excited state intramolecular charge transfer process. The molecular electrostatic potential maps for the optimized ground state, donor twisted and acceptor twisted geometry shed insight on the electrostatic potential and charge distribution in a system which gives information about the reacting site of the probe and nature of the reaction. In this work, detailed photophysics of excited state intramolecular charge transfer process in donor-acceptor system (DPATB) was evaluated using steady state and time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy in combination with density functional theory calculations. Large solvent dependency fluorescence spectral shift and the calculated large excited state dipole moment clearly indicate an efficient charge transfer occurring in DPATB. Molecular orbital pictures as obtained from DFT based computational analysis reveals a significant change in the distribution of electron density upon transition from HOMO to LUMO which confirms an ICT process occurring from the donor group to the acceptor moiety in the excited state.

Abstract
Aggregation of tau into neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs) is characteristic of tauopathies, including Alzheimer's disease. Recent advances in tau imaging have attracted much attention because of its potential contributions to early diagnosis and monitoring of disease progress. Fluorine-19 magnetic resonance imaging (19 F-MRI) may be extremely useful for tau imaging once a high-quality probe has been formulated. In this investigation, a novel fluorine-19-labeling compound has been developed as a probe for tau imaging using 19 F-MRI. This compound is a buta-1,3-diene derivative with a polyethylene glycol side chain bearing a CF3 group and is known as Shiga-X35. Female rTg4510 mice (a mouse model of tauopathy) and wild-type mice were intravenously injected with Shiga-X35, and magnetic resonance imaging of each mouse's head was conducted in a 7.0-T horizontal-bore magnetic resonance scanner. The 19 F-MRI in rTg4510 mice showed an intense signal in the forebrain region. Analysis of the signal intensity in the forebrain region revealed a significant accumulation of fluorine-19 magnetic resonance signal in the rTg4510 mice compared with the wild-type mice. Histological analysis showed fluorescent signals of Shiga-X35 binding to the NFTs in the brain sections of rTg4510 mice. Data collected as part of this investigation indicate that 19 F-MRI using Shiga-X35 could be a promising tool to evaluate tau pathology in the brain.

Abstract
The spectral characteristics of trans-2-[4'-(N,N-dimethylamino)styryl]imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine (t-DMASIP-b) have been investigated using absorption and fluorescence techniques, and compared with 2-(4'-N,N-dimethylamino)imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine (DMAPIP-b). The study reveals that introduction of a C[double bond, length as m-dash]C double bond strongly perturbs the photophysics of the system. Unlike DMAPIP-b, t-DMASIP-b emits a single emission in aprotic and protic solvents. The emission occurs from the locally excited state in nonpolar solvents and from a planar intramolecular charge transfer (PICT) state in polar solvents. Multiple linear regression analysis suggests that among the different solvent parameters, the dipolar interaction contributes more to the stabilization of the system in both the ground and excited states. Theoretical calculations suggest that, unlike in DMAPIP-b, proton coupled twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT) emission does not occur in t-DMASIP-b. The higher quantum yield obtained in the viscous solvent glycerol is attributed to the restriction of the twisting of the olefinic bond. The photoirradiation of t-DMASIP-b shows that isomerization takes place in all solvents, including viscous glycerol. The theoretically simulated potential energy surface shows that isomerization occurs via a phantom state, which is a nonradiative process. The rise in temperature favors the photoisomerization, thus, the fluorescence quantum yield decreases. The prototropic study indicates that, unlike in DMAPIP-b, the protonation takes place at different places to form the monocations.

Abstract
The photophysical properties of newly synthesized bischromophoric solvatochromic stilbazolium dyes, 1,3-bis-[4-(p-N,N-dialkylaminostyryl)pyridinyl]propane dibromides (C1-C9), were studied in a series of solvents and their spectroscopic properties were compared with structurally related, monochromophoric styrylpyridinium dyes (SP1-SP9). The position of the UV-vis absorption spectra maximum of novel dyes is only slightly solvent polarity dependent in contrast to the fluorescence spectra that show pronounced solvatochromic effect demonstrated by a large Stokes shifts. The influence of the solvent on absorption and emission spectra, and the solvatochromic properties observed for both ground and first excited states for all the dyes were used for the evaluation of their excited state dipole moments. The ground state dipole moments of both mono- and bischromophoric dyes were established by applying ab initio calculations. The calculations and measurements unexpectedly show that the bischromophoric dyes are characterized by ground state dipole moments being equal to about half of that characterizing their monomeric equivalents, while the excited state dipole moments of bischromophoric dyes are about 10-25% higher in comparison to their monomeric equivalents.
