Copper-doped silica cuprous sulfate: A highly efficient heterogeneous nano-catalyst for one-pot three-component synthesis of 1- H -2-substituted benzimidazoles from 2-bromoanilines, aldehydes, and [bmim]N 3

Recent achievements in the synthesis of benzimidazole derivatives

Benzimidazoles are a class of heterocyclic compounds in which a benzene ring is fused to the 4 and 5 positions of an imidazole ring. Benzimidazole refers to the parent compound, while benzimidazoles are a class of heterocyclic compounds having similar ring structures, but different substituents. Benzimidazole derivatives possess a wide range of bioactivities including antimicrobial, anthelmintic, antiviral, anticancer, and antihypertensive activities. Many compounds possessing a benzimidazole skeleton have been employed as drugs in the market. The application of benzimidazoles in other fields has also been documented. The synthesis of benzimidazole derivatives has attracted much attention from chemists and numerous articles on the synthesis of this class of heterocyclic compound have been reported over the years. The condensation between 1,2-benzenediamine and aldehydes has received intensive interest, while many novel methods have been developed. In this article, we will give a comprehensive review of studies on the synthesis of benzimidazole, which date back to 2013. We have also tried to describe reaction mechanisms as much as we can. The work might be useful for chemists who work in the synthesis of heterocycles or drug chemistry.

Functionalization of Fe3O4@SiO2 nanoparticles with Cu(i)-thiosemicarbazone complex as a robust and efficient heterogeneous nanocatalyst for N-arylation of N-heterocycles with aryl halides

In this research, the functionalized silica-coated magnetite nanoparticles with Cu(i)-thiosemicarbazone complex (Fe3O4@SiO2-[CuL]) has been designed and synthesized as a magnetically retrievable nanocatalyst. Different techniques were employed to characterize the structure of Fe3O4@SiO2-[CuL] comprising FT-IR, FE-SEM, TEM, DLS, XRD, EDX, TGA, AAS, and VSM analysis. The catalytic performance of Fe3O4@SiO2-[CuL] was perused in Ullmann-type N-arylation of nucleobases, xanthines, and other N-heterocycles with diverse aryl halides which acquired the desired N-aryl products in good to excellent yields. Fe3O4@SiO2-[CuL] is a thermal and chemical stable, easy to prepare and recyclable, inexpensive, and ecofriendly catalyst that needs no additional additive or ligand as promoters. This catalyst could be separated without difficulty by a simple magnet and reused for at least seven sequential runs without a significant decline in its catalytic performance.

Graphitic carbon nitride supported neodymium oxide as an efficient recyclable nanocatalyst for the one-pot synthesis of diazabenzo[a]anthraceneones

In this research, a neodymium oxide@graphitic-carbon nitride nanocomposite was prepared and used as an efficient catalyst for the synthesis of some diazabenzo[a]anthraceneones under solvent-free conditions. The characterization of the Nd₂O₃@g-C₃N₄ nanocomposite was carried out by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA). The as-prepared compound was used as a catalyst for the one-pot three-component reaction of 2-naphthol, different substituted aromatic aldehydes, barbituric acid and its derivatives under solvent-free conditions. The catalyst is highly efficient, stable, separable, and recyclable and provides the corresponding diazabenzo[a]anthraceneones in good to high yields. This method provides several advantages such as mild reaction conditions, operational simplicity, low cost, safety, easy work up procedures and purification of products, low catalyst loading and reusability of the catalyst.
