Abstract
Due to their high surface-to-volume ratio and native band gaps, two-dimensional (2D) materials are widely used as supports for metal nanoparticle (NP) catalysts. Various synthesis methods exist to prepare such materials, but controlling the amount, size, and distribution of the deposited NPs remains a challenge. Here, we investigate the use of electron beam lithography (EBL) for this purpose. A dual-beam focused ion beam-scanning electron microscope (FIB-SEM) was used to direct the deposition of platinum NPs (Pt NPs) onto 2D graphene oxide, functionalized with epoxy and hydroxyl (HUGO) or carboxyl (TOGO) groups, and black phosphorus (BP) sheets. According to NP size, the deposition was conducted for various exposure times and several types of particle distribution. EDS confirmed the required chemical composition of all of the prepared materials. SEM showed the amount and distribution of the supported NPs, and TEM confirmed their size. Raman spectroscopy revealed a strong bonding between the NPs and the support sheets according to the type of 2D support. These results suggest that EBL is a promising method for the target-controlled deposition of metal NPs of targeted amount, size, and spatial distribution onto 2D materials, which enables evaluating the specific influence of the NP-support interaction on enhanced catalytic activity.

Abstract
This paper is focused on the utilization of hybrid catalysts obtained from layered double hydroxides containing molybdate as the compensation anion (Mo-LDH) and graphene oxide (GO) in advanced oxidation using environmentally friendly H2O2 as the oxidation agent for the removal of indigo carmine dye (IC) from wastewaters at 25 °C using 1 wt.% catalyst in the reaction mixture. Five samples of Mo-LDH-GO composites containing 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 wt% GO labeled as HTMo-xGO (where HT is the abbreviation used for Mg/Al in the brucite type layer of the LDH and x stands for the concentration of GO) have been synthesized by coprecipitation at pH 10 and characterized by XRD, SEM, Raman, and ATR-FTIR spectroscopy, determination of the acid and base sites, and textural analysis by nitrogen adsorption/desorption. The XRD analysis confirmed the layered structure of the HTMo-xGO composites and GO incorporation in all samples has been proved by Raman spectroscopy. The most efficient catalyst was found to be the catalyst that contained 20%wt. GO, which allowed the removal of IC to reach 96.6%. The results of the catalytic tests indicated a strong correlation between catalytic activity and textural properties as well as the basicity of the catalysts.

Abstract
In this contribution, an eco-friendly, sustainable, and efficient palladium nanoparticle-decorated chitosan (Pd@Chitosan) catalyst was synthesized by a simple impregnation method. The synthesized material was utilized as a heterogeneous catalyst for the C-H arylation of benzothiazole under ultrasonic irradiation. The Pd@Chitosan catalyst efficiently catalyzed the conversion of aryl iodides and bromides to 1-(4-(benzothiazol-2-yl)phenyl)ethan-1-one selectively. A single product of 83–93% yield was obtained in N,N-dimethylformamide solvent at 80 °C for 2.5h. This study reveals that Pd@Chitosan is an efficient catalyst, which catalyzes the C-H arylation with good reaction yields. The activity of the Pd@Chitosan is due to the presence of highly dispersed Pd(0) nanoparticles on the surface of the chitosan and Pd2+; a tentative mechanism was proposed based on the XPS results of the fresh catalyst and spent catalyst.

Abstract
The synthesis and applications of composites based on layered double hydroxides (LDHs) and nanocarbons have recently seen great development. On the one hand, LDHs are versatile 2D compounds that present a plethora of applications, from medicine to energy conversion, environmental remediation, and heterogeneous catalysis. On the other, nanocarbons present unique physical and chemical properties owing to their low-dimensional structure and sp2 hybridization of carbon atoms, which endows them with excellent charge carrier mobility, outstanding mechanical strength, and high thermal conductivity. Many reviews described the applications of LDH/nanocarbon composites in the areas of energy and photo- and electro-catalysis, but there is still scarce literature on their latest applications as heterogeneous catalysts in chemical synthesis and conversion, which is the object of this review. First, the properties of the LDHs and of the different types of carbon materials involved as building blocks of the composites are summarized. Then, the synthesis methods of the composites are described, emphasizing the parameters allowing their properties to be controlled. This highlights their great adaptability and easier implementation. Afterwards, the application of LDH/carbon composites as catalysts for C–C bond formation, higher alcohol synthesis (HAS), oxidation, and hydrogenation reactions is reported and discussed in depth.

Abstract
The development of high-performance thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) with high flame retardancy and low toxicity has always been the focus of its research. In this paper, the novel 3D hollow layered double hydroxide/molybdenum disulfide (LDH/MoS2) hybrid materials were synthesized by hydrothermal method using the MIL-88A as in situ sacrificial template and MoS2 as synergistic flame retardant. Among all TPU composites, the peak heat release rate, total heat release rate, and total smoke release rate of TPU/NiFeTb-LDH/MoS2 were reduced by 50.9%, 18.2%, and 35.8% compared with pure TPU, respectively. The results of the thermogravimetric infrared analysis demonstrated that the contents of combustible volatiles (hydrocarbons) and toxic volatiles (CO and HCN) emitted from TPU/LDH/MoS2 were significantly reduced, indicating that LDH/MoS2 hybrid materials can dramatically enhance the fire safety of TPU composites. Combined with the analysis of carbon residues and thermal stability of TPU composites, the enhanced flame retardancy and smoke suppression performances are primarily attributed to the catalytic carbonization of LDH and the physical barrier effect of MoS2.

Abstract
In this paper, a composite from polyaniline and graphene oxide-hydrotalcite hybrid (PAN–HG) was fabricated by direct polymerization of aniline using ammonium persulphate as an oxidant in the presence of a HG hybrid. The structure and morphological properties of synthesized PAN–HG composites were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectra, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. The electrochemical properties of the composite particles were also analyzed by potentiodynamic polarization curves to evaluate the corrosion inhabitation. The results were calculated by Tafel fitting and showed that the effective corrosion protection values were 73.11%, 88.46%, and 95.49%, corresponding to HG, 1PAN–HG, and 2PAN–HG. The influence of PAN–HG on the corrosion protection of the polyurethane coating applied on the CT3 steel was investigated. As a result, the PU containing 0.5% of 2PAN–HG showed the most effective protection of the CT3 steel substrate. The RC of the coating was about 1.61 × 107 Ω cm2, and after immersion for 30 days, the RC value was 0.17 × 106 Ω cm2. From all the analyzed results, PAN–HG has enhanced the corrosion protection and a complicated protection mechanism was also concluded and explained. Corrosion protection: PAN–HG performed effect of 95.49% protection of CT3-steel in NaCl 3.5%. PU(PAN–HG) coating provides good corrosion protection with complex mechanism of high barrier, ion-exchange and e− trapping to HG structure.![]()

Abstract
New approaches for the engineering of the 3D microstructure, pore modality, and chemical functionality of hierarchically porous nanocarbon assemblies are key to develop the next generation of functional aerogel and membrane materials. Here, interfacially driven assembly of carbon nanotubes (CNT) is exploited to fabricate structurally directed aerogels with highly controlled internal architectures, composed of pseudo-monolayer, CNT microcages. CNT Pickering emulsions enable engineering at fundamentally different length scales, whereby the microporosity, mesoporosity, and macroporosity are decoupled and individually controlled through CNT type, CNT number density, and process energy, respectively. In addition, metal nanocatalysts (Cu, Pd, and Ru) are embedded within the architectures through an elegant sublimation and shock-decomposition approach; introducing the first approach that enables through-volume functionalization of intricate, pre-designed aerogels without microstructural degradation. Catalytic structure-function relationships are explored in a pharma-important amidation reaction; providing insights on how the engineered frameworks enhance catalyst activity. A sophisticated array of advanced tomographic, spectroscopic, and microscopic techniques reveal an intricate 3D assembly of CNT building-blocks and their influence on the functional properties of the enhanced nanocatalysts. These advances set a basis to modulate structure and chemistry of functional aerogel materials independently in a controlled fashion for a variety of applications, including energy conversion and storage, smart electronics, and (electro)catalysis.

Abstract
In this paper, a certain amount of rare earth (europium) was doped into magnesium aluminum salt solution and assembled with graphene oxide (GO) by electrostatic interaction under alkaline conditions. Then, the EuMgAl-LDH/GO hybrid material was synthesized by a hydrothermal method. Its microstructure was analyzed and tested by X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), the results indicated that the EuMgAl-LDH/GO hybrid material had been successfully prepared. Next, it was mixed with zinc borate and added to a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) (thermoplastic polyurethane) matrix by melting blending. The flame retardant and smoke suppression effect of the composite was tested by conical calorimetry. The results showed that, compared with simple TPU, the PHRR (peak heat release rate), THR (total heat release), PSPR (peak smoke production rate) and TSP (total smoke production) value of the composite material decreased by 65.6%, 16.2%, 61% and 37.1%, respectively. Finally, through analysis of the carbon residue after combustion of the TPU composite material, we found that the formed carbon layer is denser and the char yield is greatly improved.

Abstract
Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) are recognized as two-dimensional (2D) clay materials, which comprise the interlayer anions and host layers with a positive charge (brucite-like M(OH)6 octahedral). They have been used as effective and eco-friendly heterogeneous catalytic systems in cross-coupling reactions. In this review, we try to underscore the applications of (LDHs) as an efficient and green catalyst in some important name reactions, namely Suzuki, Heck, Sonogashira, and Ullmann cross-coupling reactions leading to carbon-carbon bond formations.

Abstract
In this research, nano Cu/Al–HTLCs, Co/Al–HTLCs and Cu/Co/Al–HTLCs were synthesized, characterized, and tested in electrolytic reduction nitrate. Experimental results showed that Cu/Al–HTLCs were less stable than Co/Al–HTLCs due to the Jahn–Teller effect. However, electrocatalytic activity of copper was superior to that of cobalt; thus, Cu/Co/Al–HTLCs were selected based on their stable crystalline structure and electrochemical activity. The optimized Cu2CoAl–HTLC was highly active in nitrate reduction, with two peaks for nitrate and nitrite reduction, respectively. Ammonia, nitrite and N-containing gases were found to be the final products of constant potential electrolysis at −0.54 and −0.74 V.

Abstract
An efficient cobalt-based layered double hydroxide (LDH)-catalyzed Michael addition of an aryl halide compound onto activated olefin as a Michael acceptor is described. The synthesized catalytic materials were characterized using different techniques to investigate their physicochemical, morphological, and textural properties. The partial isomorphic substitution of magnesium by cobalt ions in the cationic sheets of the layered double hydroxide (CoMgAl-LDH) appears to be an appropriate catalyst to cause this reaction. This technique enables compound synthesis resulting from the 1,4-addition in good to excellent yields. Moreover, ultrasound was found to have beneficial effect on this reaction due to the cavitation phenomenon.

Abstract
Layered double hydroxides (LDH) or their derived mixed oxides present marked acid-base properties useful in catalysis, but they are generally agglomerated, inducing weak accessibility to the active sites. In the search for improving dispersion and accessibility of the active sites and for controlling the hydrophilic/hydrophobic balance in the catalysts, nanocomposite materials appear among the most attractive. In this study, a series of nanocomposites composed of LDH and reduced graphene oxide (rGO), were successfully obtained by direct coprecipitation and investigated as base catalysts for the Claisen–Schmidt condensation reaction between acetophenone and benzaldehyde. After activation, the LDH-rGO nanocomposites exhibited improved catalytic properties compared to bare LDH. Moreover, they reveal great versatility to tune the selectivity through their composition and the nature or the absence of solvent. This is due to the enhanced basicity of the nanocomposites as the LDH content increases which is assigned to the higher dispersion of the nanoplatelets in comparison to bulk LDH. Lewis-type basic sites of higher strength and accessibility are thus created. The nature of the solvent mainly acts through its acidity able to poison the basic sites of the nanocatalysts.

Abstract
Two-dimensional layered materials are gaining much attention in the field of wastewater purification. Herein, we report the synthesis and characterization of an anion selective copper–aluminum-layered double hydroxide/single-walled carbon nanotubes (CuAl-LDH/SWCNTs) composite for the scavenging of organic dye indigo carmine (IC) from aqueous solution. A facile urea hydrolysis method was used for the controlled growth of the metal hydroxides over the SWCNTs. Structural characterization of the prepared materials was investigated using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. The obtained results revealed that the CuAl-LDH/SWCNTs composite has a higher potential for the removal of IC in comparison to CuAl-LDH and SWCNTs. The enhanced adsorption capacity of the composite revealed that deposition of CuAl-LDH over SWCNTs increases the active adsorption sites and promotes the interactions between the composite and IC dye via anion exchange, electrostatic, π–π, hydrogen bonding etc. Moreover, adsorption kinetics, isotherms, and thermodynamic studies have been also proposed to illustrate the mechanism of the IC adsorption onto the CuAl-LDH/SWCNTs composite. Thermodynamic parameters showed that the adsorption of IC dye onto the CuAl-LDH/SWCNTs composite was exothermic and spontaneous in nature. Intra-particle diffusion was determined to be the rate-limiting step and adsorption of IC followed the Langmuir isotherm model with the maximum monolayer adsorption capacity 294.117 mg g−1 at 20 °C. The results suggest that the CuAl-LDH/SWCNTs composite is a potential material for IC adsorption in aqueous solution. Two-dimensional layered materials are gaining much attention in the field of wastewater purification.![]()
